Grayson Murray Tweets Lack of Help from PGA

Recommended Posts

Interesting tweets from Grayson on lack of help from PGA tour on his alcohol and tour life issue.  Not sure he has the clout to get much traction on this issue.  But Phil...seems to agree with Murray, which may really be the headline to this story.

https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/31875459/grayson-murray-discloses-issues-alcohol-upset-pga-tour-not-helping

I would have thought with the new amazing home office and over 700 employees in the office (still not sure how they need 700), they would be able to get back with PGA players or even have a small part of the office helping players with tour life issues.  Guess not.

TPC courses, hospitality, la-di-da... they're busy. I guess they're over 750 people now. That's more than all of the players on three tours.

Someone has to write that Puke Pablum Boilerplate Nonsense (PPBN). Who knows, they may have a PPBN Division with 40 people, all making six figures and headed by someone making seven figures.

I was shocked when I read about the number of people working at the Tour making over a million dollars per year.

... at a tax-exempt non-profit!

Who do they think they are...the department of education?

But seriously...take a good look at 'non-profits' before you donate. Somebody is profiting or they wouldn't exist.

I thought every Tour player was assigned a nice lady like this to look after them:

spacer.png

But seriously...Yes, Murray is responsible for his own health and he is choosing to play on Tour and to drink.

But, the Tour should definitely have some department that specifically supports Tour players if they reach out asking for assistance. Even if it is just to refer them to someone else and to monitor their progress a little bit.

Two sides and doubt we’ll get the Tour’s details because it (wisely) won’t talk about it, and Murray doesn’t come off too well. Easy to get people to jump to conclusions, easy to go the social media route. Hope he figures out something that works for him. LOL on Phil getting in some kind of lick, pretty sure the Tour has gotten back to him plenty and $$$$$$ worth as well. Yawn, Phil.

The tour offers health insurance to players and EAP would part of that. I’m guessing Grayson hasn’t bothered to dial the number himself and is wanting someone else to do it for him. Addicts often take this route - blame others, and if that other can be a huge entity like the PGA Tour then even better. He needs help, he has a history of issues and suffered a recent family tragedy. This is a scream for help, I hope he and his family and friends realize they need to do something.  It’s really not the Tour’s role to drag someone to rehab.

Just read his Twitter post.

To say Murray doesn't come off too well is somewhat of an understatement. Evidently pretty much everyone is to blame for him deciding to drink to excess except him. His Tweet reads as though he drank heavily because no one went out of their way to give him reason not to.

I've sympathy for the lad, as I'm sure many have, and I hope he sorts out his issues; but in my opinion he firstly needs to usher in a sea change in his apportioning of both blame and responsibility.

most addicts act this way.

Plenty of help available for anyone with an alcohol problem.  It might not be on the tour or as convenient as he currently thinks it should be.  It’s his own responsibility to address it.

All this seems to prove is Grayson lacks personal responsibility.  Life isn't always someone else fault or their responsibility to fix.

He is a 27yo professional athlete who has earned $2.8m just in winnings.  He has the means to deal with his own problems that the average person can only dream of.  Stop acting entitled and fix your problems.

First. At least he's admitting he has an issue. But it sounds as though, as others have said he's wanting someone to fix it for him.

I am also an independent contractor. I am responsible for all of my own personal needs. I have no doubt they would hold my "job" if I needed to take time away. If he has any status I'm sure the tour would give him a a medical exemption.

If they fine him for drinking maybe take that money and give it to a rehab facility for him. They surely do not need his fine money to keep the doors open.

The only way for him or anyone to get better is to Own it. I feel bad for anyone with addiction issues. It's a tough life.

Ya, it seems like he’s ticked off he got fined for drinking and thought a helping hand would be nice.

I think that if he played for a pro sports team, they are set up with the resources and network to get their guys help

Different with these guys being independent.

Interesting public jab at the tour from Phil. Wonder what he’s taking about that they didn’t get back to him.

Thing about guys is they don’t like to ask for help. We see it as a weakness. I’m sure we have all kept problems inside that it would have been easy to ask for help for but our pride won’t let us.

Considering he was apparently publicly drunk enough to get fined recently, wonder if he’s drinking still. Maybe this is a cry for help. Hope he finds some.

This is the cry of a person in pain. He has not yet hit the bottom and he’s still  looking to others for intervention or blaming others. He has not yet owned his problem or his behavior.
I’ve had experience with alcoholics and alcoholism is so difficult, so consuming, and so destructive.

I hope he finds sobriety and peace.

Lol, I think the tour stopped taking Phil’s calls with all his complaining about stuff

Or how about when Philly Phresh like,

According to four people with direct knowledge, Mickelson sent a text message to PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem from the sixth fairway at Muirfield Village suggesting that a lack of policing fans with cellphones was getting out of hand.”

Almost ten years for me.  Feel bad for this man.  He’s pretty low but still looking for the bottom and that is an awful place.  I always need a reminder like this of how miserable it was at the end.
