For me, I'm not a stickler for offset but tend to play with irons with a bit of it and with a slightly thick topline.  Other than that, looks and feel are my main requirements.

Jus sayin its the only thing that matters..... looks are skin deep

I get that part. What compels you to try an iron in the first place?

For instance, I'll take a flier on GI style clubs once in awhile to see what the fuss is about -  but I always end up back to my main criteria. Good looking wedge, subtle but well defined transition at 8 to 7. I'd throw in simple sole, lower bounce and not too much offset.

If they have those features the results will be predictably good for me.

Not that that stops me from trying. It was a recent fail with a new set that got me on this subject.  I should've known better, lol.

Ya gotta know what works for you.

Actually I've recently become open minded about trying any club....  I'm a par golfer that snapped my achilles and is always getting injured and rebuilding my swing.  I've always thought the more forgiving the club the better, same concept I've stuck to for all sports equipment Ive used.... so I'm gonna go down that rabbit hole.  chunky or ugly I dont care as long as performance is what I like.

But I guess going into this experiment the only thing that would make me happy would be no offset..... I wonder why there is not very forgiving clubs offered with no offset as an option like some offer different lofts.... low spec or retro.  But I guess I could get used to offset if I have to...

Best of luck to you. Injuries stink.

Sole first, thin not too bouncy in the front half. The right offset, minimal but nice flow from the hosel. Lead edge straight and then overall head shape. Sole is the most important for me though.

They have to be shiny. They need to have a fine tactile quality so that you would want to maybe sleep with them when new..... Medium bounces. Not a lot of garish badging. He has biases against certain brands because of this. They should have Limited offset, or hide it well. These days JP likes long black ferrules with two shiny silver rings. He bought some bespoke ferrules but felt they looked pretty, but silly. The AP2 is maybe the most GI iron JP has ever owned. So many great looking irons these days. Can not recall a better time in JP’s life for club choices.

I have to admit after dissing Mizuno Wedges I ended up with a set 5-P of the MP 25 with AMT Red R300s as a project set. The wedge is pretty nice in this set. They met the eye test.

Reset the shafts, cleaned them up, fresh grips and hit a couple buckets. They are going to stick around for awhile. 🤣

Better yet I just picked up JPX919 G at 50 with Modus Tour105 R and 2 MP Series wedges 56/11and 60/6. The MPs had graphite Competition 75 Series that I just replaced with S200 and fresh grips.

MP2 at D2 and the utilities at D3. Nice.

I loved the MP Series wedges. Thinner soles and a great look. These were well cared for.

For good measure I also picked up a JPX919 Forged G 50 with DG R300 and a Mizuno Pro Tour Model 56. Can never have too many wedges. They all came in to the local shop from one trade.

I guess I'm all in at this point, lol.

First range session I've had all year where the ball had a slight draw and nearly every shot was solid.

Shrug 🤷🏼‍♂️

Been chasing too long to worry about aesthetics.. I'll play whatever gives me an advantage.

I'm the total opposite. I've been playing for almost 40 years, spent 16 years in the golf business and have played everything. I don't get any benefit to "GI" irons, or SGI Irons or "Players" irons. A toe shot with those does the same damage as a toe shot with a blade. I don't play for a living, and I hardly play in events even though I'm a low single digit cap. I decided this year to go back to my roots, what I grew up with, what hooked me to the game. I want an iron that is pleasing to the eye, minimalistic in looks, superb in feel. That's when I play my best. Plus the shots I hit on the screws I remember.
