got covid, got vaccinated, got covid again....is that possible? is rahm a unicorn

You can get covid many times but the extent of the severity of the symptoms will depend if  you are vaccinated or not.  Just think of Covid like the flu.  You can get it, but you'll be ok if you're vaccinated but you can spread it to others and hopefully those people are vaccinated.

You can be infected with COVID 19 even if you are vaccinated.  The vaccine prevents the recipient from getting seriously ill from COVID 19, but the individual may have mild or no symptoms with the virus in the body.  So for a period of time it could be in your system and it could mean you can infect others.  The vaccine will keep the vast majority of people who contract the disease from ending up in the hospital or worse.

This and the effectiveness can vary. There was a recent study out of Israel that showed that the Pfizer vaccine was over 90% effective at preventing transmission of Covid, but that it was only 38% effective at preventing transmission of the new Delta variant. However, it also showed that despite this, those who were vaccinated and DID get the Delta variant had only mild symptoms.

Will PGA of America reconsider its COVID policy of no longer testing its members?

Good question.  It really depends on how many of its members are fully vaccinated.  The higher the percentage of members vaccinated, the more likely the PGA won't test its members.

Well said. And as long as people refuse to get vaccinated, this will only get worse as Delta spreads and new variants develop. So much for almost having this behind us! Ugh.

It would be extremely reckless to stop testing players. Things are starting to tighten back up due to the number of new cases. The last thing the Tour should do is stop testing.  They may even have to go back to no fans if things keep progressing they way they are right now.  I live in Missouri, which is one of the hot spots for new infections ATM.  Yet we are still having county fairs and other big events with lots of people in close proximity to each other.  All I can do is just shake my head in disbelief of how stupid it all is.  We literally only had ONE open hospital bed in the entire state a week ago.  A little old lady fell and broke her hip, and we were lucky to find that one bed so that we could transfer her out to get treated.  We couldn't take her.  We have people sitting in our ER waiting room for several hours, and they gripe about things taking so long.  They don't understand that we have very sick people in the ER who need to be admitted to the hospital, but we don't have any room for them, and there isn't enough staff to care for them.  So we have to keep them in the ER, which keeps others from getting into the ER.  It has been a giant s#!t show for months, and it's only getting worse.  This is NOT the time to loosen restrictions and try to go back to "normal".  This pandemic isn't going anywhere.  It's only getting worse.  This is the new "normal".  The only people who can affect the course of this pandemic are the unvaccinated, because they are 99% of the people who are getting infected and spreading the virus.

Thank you…

Straight from the horses mouth. The man works in a hospital and is seeing it 1st hand. Same things in his posts that the experts/science is telling us. Thank you 🙏🏼

Yes but keep in mind there are other studies showing a higher % of protection against the Delta variant:

"Wednesday's study found that two doses of Pfizer's shot was 88% effective at preventing symptomatic disease from the Delta variant, compared to 93.7% against the Alpha variant, broadly the same as previously reported."

https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/two-doses-pfizer-astrazeneca-shots-effective-against-delta-variant-study-finds-2021-07-21/

Supposedly Israel uses a much more sensitive test. I.e. they consider it a positive covid test even if the amounts found in the test are extremely small. So they are reporting more positive covid cases compared to other testers. Either way, this probably indicates that most who are vaccinated (with the Pfizer in this case) will see mild symptoms, at worse.

The PGA of America and the PGA Tour are two different organizations.

Think Club Professionals - PGA of America & runs the PGA Championship

Think Tour Pros - PGA Tour & runs the Player Championship and all other tour events (expect not the Masters, The Open).

The Tour stopped testing, I believe because they reached a level of vaccinated Tour members they felt comfortable with no real threats of a mass spread of the virus.
