She was 3 under after 7 holes with birdies on 5 & 6. The 3 putt on 8 for bogey took the wind out her sails for the round. And to be fair not many players have their A game (completely overused phrase FWIW) after shooting 62 after having a chance for 59 yesterday.

Your more than welcome to scroll back up and read my comments from hours ago. Listen to her interviews, she knows she was off today.

Don’t think you’ve ever been in a typhoon

I have, travelled extensively throughout Asia; Philippines can get typhoon tasty, also Australia is #6 in typhoon countries.

TBF though, I have no experience of typhoons in Japan, so I bow to those that do.

But let's be accurate, this is not a typhoon, it is a tropical storm, let's stop referring to it as a typhoon if its not:

Sunrise is at 5am, may be do-able with an uber-early start and 2 tees?

Edit: good, just saw the round 4 tee-times. 6.30am/6.35am start off 2 tees.

The 14 hour time difference is killing me. With an early start to the final round, I'll definitely have to stay up tonight to watch the conclusion.

This has certainly turned into a real race. 'Not sure if the players at -8 can catch Nelly, but anything can happen I guess. We'll see how much the weather plays a role. Nelly's worst round is a 69, so I just don't see her shooting worse than 70.

Now you're getting a taste of what my viewing issues are for almost every event.🤣

With the weather and early start, could prove interesting.

I don't either.  Nelly can't coast in, but she has the luxury of being up by 3-shots playing simply average yesterday.  Everyone has to come get her and if her recent play holds true, it's going to be tough to catch her.  But hey, that's why it's exciting right?

But also, we still have a silver and bronze medal to be decided, so even if Nelly does her thing, there are plenty of chasers vying for the other medals.

There's also the weather threat that adds an additional element to speed of play.

Well whether it is a Typhoon or a Tropical storm, something tell me there's gonna be wind today.   Nothing changes LPGA leaderboards more than a strong wind.  My perception of Nelly she not great in the wind but not terrible either, so if it's windy it does have the potential to catch her, so that can change things.  If wind becomes a factor, I'd watch out for Hannah and Lydia and maybe Mone Inami (although haven't watched her enough to know how she plays in the wind).  Aditi I think is the loser if it's windy, she hit too soft a ball and won't have the penetration and she'll probably get eaten up IMO.  All that said if the wind isn't that bad I think Nelly cruises, she had her off round yesterday but unfortunately ( or fortunately for Nelly) so did everybody who was closest to her and they just got replaced by other people from rnd 2 to rnd 3.

I only made it through the front nine but it seemed to me like the final group was waiting on the group in front of them a bunch.  Nanna might deserve a pass.

It's been fun watching Aditi but that lack of distance sure puts a lot of pressure on her to be precise with everything else.  I'm pretty confident the putter will be there, but if she stops hitting fairways and greens it could get wobbly.

Hope they get 72 holes in. I've really enjoyed it so far. Prediction- Nelly Gold, Lydia Silver, Aditi bronze.

I think there's an inverse to slow play here, just like players hate slow play, I think players on tour tell the Korda's to go "bleep" themselves.  Like if you wanna play speed golf that's on you, so wait lol.  I'm sure lots of players while not being slow in terms of falling behind say "I have between 3-4 minutes to hit all my shots on each hole and I'm gonna use all that time and if the Korda's don't like it, they can do what everyone else does and go on the internet and complain about it" lol

Ha...I think she stole the shorts from the Track and Field locker.  We were watching and was telling my daughter that Danielle likes to wear pajamas when she plays.  I actually like her pajama pants and hoodie look on tour. 🤣

Lol.  So we’re pro slow play now ?     If they’d stop having their caddies Guide them around , the time would cut in half.  These convos can be had before it’s their turn , and without all the visual aide hep from caddies. This is an exclusively lpga thing.  Caddies backseat driving.  Be a decisive player ( meaning ready then go ) is a positive trait. Not a point to tell someone to Ef off from.

I see the Kordas as mimicking the men’s game in  a lot of ways.  From club choices to play pace.   If they find an advantage there.  Then it’s a good thing. Not a bad one.

If you really wanna cut out slow play then slash the size of the fields and have them go off in groups of 2 starting at the 1st tee, otherwise everyone is just talking about slow play to hear their own voices.  As long as a group has tee'd off when the group ahead of them is hitting the green, I'm personally good.  And IMO the Men's game is much slower than the women's.

It’s never about the total time.  And always about the flow.  A 5 hour round can feel fine. A 3 1/2 hour round can feel very slow if you’re the longest hitter and you’re waiting on someone who is never ready to hit if it’s their turn.  If you’re the shortest hitter of your group , you need to have it figured out before you get to the ball really.  Then pull a club and go.  Now of course I don’t mean literally.  You have an allotted time. But it’s not 5 minutes.  You need to be aware that you don’t have time to chat before your shot. That can be done after you hit it.

I've always been the shortest hitter in my usual group, but I don't see how any 3.5 hour round can feel slow.

As the first person to usually hit from the fairway, I laser my yardage, pull a club, take one practice swing, and hit the ball.

But I'm usually first to hit off the tee because I am almost always beating the big bombers who drive it 40 yards past me : )

I’m being serious.  Lol. It’s not a peeing contest. It’s just looking at perspectives.

if you’re a long hitter most ( not all ) of the time you learn quick to play fast. Why ?  The entire group is waiting on you.  Most every approach shot.  I see about a 50/50 split with the short guy.  One will be super fast. The next will alwasy be the slowest guy you’ve ever played with.  The guy who talking up the fairway and continues the conversation as he stands beside his ball.  Not hitting.

You have to also realize. The long hitter usually can’t get to his or her ball until the shorter players have hit. Why ?  They’d be standing in the way.  So it almost forces quick decisions.  You have less time behind the ball to think on it. And less time to pull the trigger. Because  your not at the ball but a few moments.

Exceptions being JB Holmes and Bryson.  They have chose to do the opposite, and play as slow  as possible and disregard the rest of the group.

But you’ll find far more fast players in the long category out of necessity. I’m just explaining the disgruntled look on the Korda sisters faces.   If they took more time you guys would call them slow.  Just because they hit last.

Forgot your actual question lol. A 3.5 hour round can feel slow in a 4 some if you are the guy who waits 5-6 minutes to hit each shot after you walk to the area of your ball.

The focus is rightfully on the top of the leaderboard, but what a round by Shanshan. I wish I could lay off golf for weeks/months at a time, and come back shooting in the low 60's. Lol.

I bet the only time Shanshan has seen a gym is when she has to walk through one in order to access the women's locker room.🤣

The India gal is slow as can be and carrying it a paltry 215 off the tee. Not only taking sweet time she keeps backing off shots. You can always see Nelly 100 yards up past her waiting. Korda's are correct in the fast play. Hopefully they just keep it at 54 holes and give Nelly the Gold and figure out what to do with the Bronze.

I'm finding it entertaining that Aditi Ashok is ahead of many of the top names in the game.  From nowhere.  There was no indication that there was a decent chance of this.  This is one aspect that makes golf and sport in general entertaining.  You never know on any given week what might happen

I was able to get out to the Sony Open today to take a few pics.  I guess due to Covid precautions they kept the spectators pretty far from the players.  Also due to camera restrictions they've put in place, I wasn't able to bring the big lens like I normally do. Hopefully they'll ease up on the ropes and I'll be able to get more pics tomorrow!
