She should have taken the LPGA membership.

Yes, and hindsight 20/20 sad to see (eg I was eagerly hoping to see her take it).

Gotta strike while the iron (in this case, iron, putter and driver) was / is hot, in my view. These chances happen once in a lifetime (literally) - no status to full status due to winning a major.

Hence I admire ALK for taking the plunge even if unsure. Yuka too, though in Yukas case it was obvious she was planning to, no matter what (eg had she not won the US open, she was going to do it the qschool way).

Nothing in life is a certainty - Rory M assuming he's gonna be repping Team Ireland golf for 2024, even if he is that good now, is no certainty either... I'm not betting against him, of course, but never say never (motto in life)

Who I want to medal: DK, Lexi, and Inbee.

Who wouldn't surprise me: Gaby, Patty, Hannah, or Leona.

Game on, let's go Ladies!!

I want to see a playoff for each medal,....with a real dark horse winning either silver or bronze.  Lets make this as interesting as possible.

Makes wonder though, how they would proceed with a multi player playoff for gold?  Do they keep going until silver and bronze are decided?

Anna with a collared shirt? Whaaaa?

The rough looks like a good height. Should reduce spin without being crazy.

Greens do look rather firm. They seem to be holding quite well from the fairway, but plenty of release out of the rough.

It seems that for every golfer on the first tee, all the announcers talk about is 'what an honor it is' for them to just be there. How it is the greatest achievement of their lives, etc., etc.

Really? How about you tell us about golf...maybe something we don't already know or can't already guess. Otherwise, why are you even there?

Btw, they did this with the men as well...every. single. day.

My friend, if you're looking to hear some new fun facts from these announcers, you may as well mute the broadcast now. It ain't happening, just the opposite will happen numerous times.

There entire mission should be to educate new viewers about the golfers...not the Olympics. Many that will watch either don't follow the ladies at all or are casual viewers...this is their chance. So far nothing but cliches. But I should probably temper my expectations.

Trying to understand something..

Chinese Taipei is Taiwan

Taiwanese participating in international organizations are often represented under the title "Chinese Taipei", or 中華台北 in Chinese. The team is, and has been, 100% Taiwanese since 1949 and competes in the Olympics under this invented name so China will not pressure the event to exclude Taiwanese athletes. At worst, competing under the accurate name of "Taiwan" would trigger a military reaction from Beijing against Taiwan as it would be viewed by Beijing as an "act of secession"

Oh new viewers will learn about players for sure, nothing crazy personal likely, mostly their strengths and weaknesses in their games. By day four, you'll have heard the same things a hundred times over.

My sense= the commentators have been briefed to dumb-down their usual commentary ie to assume the majority of viewers are casual/newbies (& to explain things that are quite obvious to hardcore fans)

In Asia, we have had the lovely Alison Whitaker & Tony Johnstone as co-commentators on the tv broadcast.

Who do you have commentating on golf channel?

Not sure...a mix but two Brits and an American. Not sure why, but the British have been taking over golf commentary in the U.S.

Guessing you might be referring to Karen Stupples & Anna Whiteley?

Did you really mean at the end of regulation:

a) First and Second play for gold.  Loser gets nothing

b) Third and Forth play for Silver.  Loser gets nothing

c) Fifth and Sixth play for Bronze.  Loser gets nothing

Technically there could be a playoff for each medal if three people finish T1.  Maybe that is what you meant?  I think a playoff for the three medals would be better though?

The course is immaculate....the greens are running fast.....the lousy putters will struggle...............unlike the baked out, no grass, hard pan, dirt fairway nonsense I'm experiencing at my club....though the greens are nice.

I'm watching on TSN so only have the team that typically covers women's golf in Asia Pacific region.

I've actually watched Olympic golf more from the Canadian feed (eg Olympic Broadcasting Center feed eg OBC) rather than GC... i figured i wont lose much in terms of new info provided anyway, less commercials, and less US centric (no offense to the Americans)...

Alison Whitaker > Paige LOL... at least for the Olympic coverage...  plus Alison walked with Bianca on the practice round of yesterday haha...

Right.  They can have for example, a two player playoff for gold/silver and then another multi player playoff for bronze.

Another scenario, if there was a multi player playoff for gold, they would presumably continue with those players in playoff until an outright 1st, 2nd, and 3rd is decided.  In other words, if the gold is won with a birdie and the other players tie with par, then they continue on in the playoff to decide silver and bronze

@grm24 posted this helpful guide to the Playoffs last week, on the Olympics Mens Golf thread (presumably will be same format for the Women's).

"

https://golf.com/news/olympic-golf-playoff-format/

“In the event of a tie for first, second or third place at the conclusion of 72 holes of stroke play, a playoff or multiple playoffs shall be conducted for the purpose of determining the gold, silver and bronze medal winner. Such playoffs shall be on a hole-by-hole basis immediately following the conclusion of the final round.”

If only one playoff is needed to determine all three medals, “holes 18, 10 and 11 will be played and this loop will be repeated for as long as necessary. As medals are determined, play will continue to determine any remaining medals as necessary.”

However, if two playoffs are necessary — to determine gold/silver and bronze/fourth place — the gold/silver playoff will be played on 18, 10 and 11, while the bronze/fourth place playoff will play 11, 18 and 10 simultaneously."

I think it's Ali Whitaker...she's out to lunch.

Says Bianca is short then says she thinks Bianca is at least  5'9"....WTH....LMAO....5'9" is tall for a woman...and especially tall for an Asian woman.

As per a Google search...Bianca is 5'3"

Then they start yammering about escalators and elevators and Ali does not know which one has steps...WTH....LMAO.

Yup with TSN....I'm not getting the team as noted above....so I'm not listening to annoying Paige GIGGLES MacKenzie.

But I think @Kaysquare is mad because she has to use her mute button when Stupples is YAPPING away.🤣
