Rory's putting wasn't too bad this week from what I saw and wasn't a bad putt on the last, just caught an extra bit of slope. I've always found Rory's problem with putting is reading greens more than technique anyway. 7-man playoff is a crap shoot, hard to draw too much analysis from it. Just a shame to come so close and just miss out, same on 18 in regulation play. But them's the breaks.

Schauffele hopefully kicks start something special. The “cannot close” demon is gone. 
Rory Sabbatini comes out of nowhere and wins a medal. 
Epic 7-man playoff with 3 major winners in the mix. CT Pan came out and won the bronze. 
 

Gotta a feeling Olympic Women’s Golf will be equally special.

Olympic gold medal definitely, especially after his father was denied one after a car crash wrecked his chances.

 

As Morikawa said "I wouldn't take anything for it, I wouldn't trade anything for it". These guys are multi-millionaires, some things in life are priceless. They're also going straight into the Fed-Ex Cup where even a few mid-places finishes make you a fortune.

So much more enjoyable than the 2016 Olympic golf competition. Not even close. That was a great deal of fun to watch and chat with many tonight/this morning over it. 

 

In spite of the golf architecture snobs that didn't think this course was worthy for the Olympics this event once again showed it's not the designer(s) and cheerleaders of a course that makes a golf event compelling to watch it's the level of golf played on said course. TBH the 2016 Olympics golf was a bore to watch in spite of supposed its architecture bona fides.

 

To wit the Presidents Cup course in South Korea 2015 was slagged on by many golf fans and course designer snobs alike and yet it was one of the best played President Cup matches. Came down to the last hole of the last match. Why? The level of competition. Duh.

 

So in 2024 Le Golf National in France is the Olympic host course (2018 Ryder Cup host) and Riviera in LA in 2028. No guarantee of good golf despite course lineage deserved or not (Le Golf National).

 

So let's all of us save some of our "faux outrage" and complain in 2024 during the summer Olympics and wonder how in the world that break dancing, skateboarding and rock climbing are official Olympic sports and not worry about the golf. I'm not kidding. All new medal events for 2024. Guess club DJ'ing will be included for 2028.

The men's 2016 Olympic golf was far from special especially when compared to this weekend. There is no logical way that can be debated honestly. 

 

All that said huge congrats go out to Xander, Rory S. and CT Pan for amazing performances to win the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. Well deserved fellows. 🍾🍾🍾🥇🥈🥉⛳

I enjoyed it.  Over time I think golfers will appreciate the medal in much the same way the tennis players do.

 

interesting to see Rory with the Scotty.  Was he also using an M2 today? The head looked like it had a lighter stripe at the front to me but I could get a decent look.

The best thing about it is the novelty, the fact it's only every 4 years (3 for the next one) means that it gives the year an extra interest which is cool. If you asked them to play every year it'd be like the World Cup of Golf and players wouldn't care so much, especially when it's not for money. But ask someone to play every 4 years for other things such as pride for their country and to stand alongside other Olympians and it takes on a greater meaning.

I believe Xander’s mom is from Taiwan or has Taiwanese heritage, so that’s a nice showing for the island nation.
