You've Changed Irons. What did your handicap do?

Changed primarily for the shaft - went from Recoil 95 F3's on 2016 Forged Tec's to Recoil 110 F4 on Apex Pro 16s. Handicap went down from 9.8 to my current 7.7. Hitting the irons better than before with more consistency, and probably saving a couple of strokes a round due to my misses not being so extreme but manageable that I'm giving myself a chance to get up and down. In addition, getting a wee bit more length, means that I can play a little more conservative off the tee, i.e. I'm more confident with my long irons (4-6). In addition, I've also seen a marked improvement this year after switching from a blade putter to a mallet (the Bird of Prey is awesome)!

 

That being said, playing with such robust shafts and irons, it demands a lot of upkeep i.e. practice, training etc. which I've somewhat been able to do this year. However, it's getting harder and harder, so I'm considering getting some 'easier' to hit clubs through the bag (lighter shafts, hollow filled heads etc) with some forgiveness, but hesitant as I suspect my misses might be some booming flyers.

I've changed irons a LOT, especially in the first half dozen years of this century, when I went through three dozen sets.  Had a big drop in scores when I switched to Golden Rams.  From there forward, the iron changes did little for me.  Some would see my scores go up, most had no real effect.

 

Spent a year playing Eye2+, primarily because they spun the ball quite a bit less; I was a fairly high trajectory player with high spin, was getting killed in the wind.  In spite of hitting the ball even higher, wind play improved considerably, but scores stayed the same.  I was a 7 when I started, I was a 7 when I switched away from them.

 

Amusingly, when I switched from the Pings back to Ram Tour Grinds, my average scores dropped 2-3 shots, my index dropped to 5 in six weeks, and stayed there for a year.  

 

Since then, little change with any of my switches.  Some didn't work for me and would see scores bleed up, others did nothing measurable.

 

I've seen more change this year by trying to play a longer driver, over the last six weeks.  My index is up 2-3 shots.  Enough of that junk.

So much for irons helping when the rest of the game goes on strike. Picked up the G710 irons and hitting them sharply. I mean as in another world type of improvement. They were extended a 1/2 inch, and I feel this has been a large part of the improvement, but the G710 as just an awesome iron for me. I expect to drop 2 strokes with these irons, but when my health comes back.
