The "Why I am a high handicap" thread

All..I have been tracking my stats for a few years now and despite striking the ball better than ever this year, HDCP is up .5 points.  I play at a 18.8 which is a bummer since, like most of you, I think i should be better.  So, lets add to why you are a higher handicap.  Here are my stats:

 

• Average score 93
• My by hole par...Par 3's (4)...down 1 stroke this year.  Par 4's (5.4) up .2 this year...Par 5's (6.3) up .2 this year
• Driving accuracy.  53% hit. This above average
• GIR...13%.  Up a bit a this year but the average for my HDCP is 21%
• Here's the biggie and this is up 1.3 this year...average penalties a round....6.3

 

Anyway, there is a lot to improve but that penalty number has got to come down in addition to other things but thought I'd share and it.  It's good to track this stuff to know where you are at b/c without it, I would THINK I was playing better golf this year but the stats don't lie.

Because 1) I suck at golf, 2) have no time to practice, and 3) drink too much on the course. I'm out once a week to have fun and blow of some stress from the week. Shooting high 80s to low 90s is fine by me as long as I'm having a good time. I'm not making the tour in this lifetime, and I'm okay with that.

I stopped hitting the range daily this year.. I now spend my time on the chipping and putting area... 

Shocking how my scores have dropped.. played 9 holes the other day and had 14 putts..

Everyone will say just work on the short game (true BUT) you really need to hit some fairways, get that up to 10 of 14 and your GIR will get a bump and penalty strokes will plummet.

Every facet is important. Closer you get to the hole the more every mistake adds to score. Mishit driver by 5 degrees not huge. Mishit a chip and it went sideways.

My Achilles heel is hitting greens w second shot. Always working on it.

"I should be better than I am" is always a copout. If you're a good ball striker but can't putt then get a putting lesson and work on it. Golf is every aspect of the game, so unless we own that we're exactly as good as our cap suggests.

Green reading is my biggest fault, its truly shocking, people i play with think its my putting, and sure i do hit some bad putts, but the majority of the time i do hit my putts online, its just the completely wrong line, ive contemplated trying aimpoint but still not done anything about it yet

It's part of the Use The Bounce 2.0 series. I would say the entire series is brilliant, but the putting section is worth the money alone.

Ok you've started me down a rabbit hole here. This kind of method screams to a feel player like me.

It revolutionised my putting. Since my health went south I couldn't read greens at all (the grass just looks like it's moving!) and it was stopping me shooting around par. First time out using voodoo and I either made everything, missed short or shaved the hole. Shot level par.

Still have the odd blow up hole where I hit a bad shot and follow it up with poor execution and decision making. Shot an 85 last week with a tripple on the first and a tripple on the 11th. Hit 50% GIR and missed a descent amount of makeable birdies.

???Do you think you are a high handicapper or just bragging or simply making high handicappers feel even more inadequate than they already do?
