2021 ISPS Handa World Invitational (Jul 29 - Aug 01)

Recommended Posts

I didn't realize they're using both courses at the resort. I assume they'll use one course on the weekend after the cut. The courses appears to be playing tough. 72 players out, and only 20 are under par.

Su off to a good start, tied for the lead at -3 after 17 holes.

All will play Galgorm Castle Golf Club on the weekend.  They'll have a full field  (> 120) on Saturday counting both men and women.

A second cut of 35th and ties on Saturday will make Sunday more manageable.

Meh. Five hours of coverage isn't much good when the men get 60 to 70 percent of the airtime.

Chella is due for a win. Jennifer is playing great, but we'll see if she can put together a good round on Sunday. The odds say no.

Emma is another player who should have a win or two by now based on her college play, but she's struggled.

Good to see Chella on TV for once. Gonna be tough for her to hold on for 3 more days, but I wish she did.

In case y'all didn't know Chella is an incredibly accurate driver of the golf ball, it's true because I heard it 30 times in a few hour span 😂

Did you know that she plays a colored golf ball?

@Supermilo Doesn’t Paula Creamer aka Pink Panther still use a Pink 🎀coloured ball too?

..Edit: Maybe pink =only in Sundays? Photos =looks like a white ball for Paula.

I actually don't know LOL.  I only know of Chella and Phatlum to be using Volvik colored balls consistently.  So did Bubba before-- those are the 3 that I always saw on TV coverages in the past years- even Porny has had less coverage lately (not playing consistently to be telecast).    Of course Porny had a ton of coverage losing to Georgia at "the Open".

Yes, Chella, Porna, MHL are Volvik sponsored pros.

Bubba was sponsored for a year....didn't play well.

I think Bubba is now playing a yellow Pro-V1???

I was chatting with Kylie Pratt...she was looping for The Mini Rocket....Hee Young Park's younger sister...she said Volvik's are garbage....I agree....I find the odd one here.

Yes....there was a time when the Pink Diva would play a pink golf ball on Sunday.....she's been trunk slamming a lot and don't know if she still plays a pink ball on Sunday.

????

Paula Reto test +ve for Covid...WD from Olympics.

So how is she still able to play now in The ISPS Handa?

And her replacement is Dagar who is also playing this week....can she still meet any Olympic quarantine requisites for play next week???

Yes....and what seemed like it might be an interesting format, is actually frustrating to watch.  Jumping back and forth between two tournaments during the coverage, doesn't do it for me.

They tried it at the Victorian Open in 2019, and for me, it is a total failure. As you said, it's frustrating. Normally, if I want to switch between LPGA, PGA or European Tour, i can do that voluntarily myself.  I don't want it decided for me.

British commentary is the pits.

Too many LET players.

Lower quality LPGA field (which, by itself, i don't mind).

But the rather lame attempt at pay equality irks me most. If the men and women have the same prize-money, then it just makes it a 2nd tier women's even simultaneous with a 3rd tier men's.

Olympics (bec of Japan) has more thorough/stricter testing policies -- it is Japan, the host country, determining your entry requirements...

ISPS Handa is part of LET/LPGA which have less stringent policies = allowed to play despite testing positive...

In short, one is stricter, the other less so...

As for the players on quarantine requisites for next week, well, Patrick Reed arrived on the day before (Wednesday) and was selected on the weekend... so yes, Dagar can miss cut and still make olympics next week using Patrick Reed analogy (though not 100% sure when Patrick Reed was tested for his #1 test -- my guess is Saturday last week, then Sunday then Monday, then took off Tuesday arrived Wed, teed off thursday...)

Definitely tough to watch. Five hours of coverage, but less than 2 hours for the women. My thumb is getting an extra heavy duty workout on the fast forward button. Throw in the Olympics, and I might need surgery. Lol.

Still a chance for Atthaya to grab her LPGA card, but she's going to need to go low. I'm sure Emma, Jennifer, Gemma, Min Seo, and Mina are itching to snag their first victory.

????...huh...the LPGA & LET allow Covid +ve participants?????

I would think it's bec quite a few will still test positive for remnants even if they're not sick and are fully well/recovered.

That was the case with the PGA when they kept testing players who were recovered but still show remnants even as late as 90 days.

Needless to say, tests are not fool proof and will not always be "correct" esp for recovered Covid patients/golfers.

Again that's the PGA, I am just surmising that the LET/LPGA followed what the PGA actually are doing now in 2021

Example: Jon Rahm couldn't play Olympics he tested positive in day 3 of the tests... But is Jon Rahm allowed to play if it was a PGA event? Yes...

It's in the minutae...
