FJ Premier vs G/Fore Gallivanter. Comfort?

It’s just not as nice, quick and easy as walking in, trying on and deciding.

Exactly. I just ordered a pair of Adidas, and the current model did not feel the same as the previous model, so I had to send them back. This meant a trip to the UPS store. I'd have much rather have gone to the golf shop to try them on. Regardless, I still will have to go to a retail outlet if I have to return something.

Agree.  If It fits, then it saves you a trip, albeit the wait and for things I want, a never good with waiting.    But when it doesn’t, you still have to go somewhere to return.   That said, I better get used to it. This is the future.  Fewer brick and mortars with the rise of online retail.

Have multiple gallivanters and find them comfy but heavy kinda. Very good grip, and the overall fit seems to work for me. I sized up 1/2 size on my normal show size. Just got a pair of Premier Flints in my normal 11.5, the fit in the shoe is good but the heel is super low for some reason. Almost worried they weren’t even grabbing my heel enough to stay on, but walked a round with no issue. Not as soft in the sole insert as gfore but grip is good and overall fit in the forefoot is familiar FJ. I am a medium width and have always found medium footjoy to more than wide enough. Gallivanters in 12 seem fine too but my big toe rubs now and then walking down hill steeply.

Gallivanters will be here Wednesday to compare.

so far haven’t found a sock to help with the lifting in the heel area on the Tarlows.  13 in FJ and 13 in GFore.  I know that isn’t the correct correlation but no 12.5 option for FJ.   So I may end up with Gfore on fit alone.  We shall see.  I’ve tried my thicker socks to

see if they help with the Tarlows and so far they feel great on (very premium) but no matter how I lace, I get a slight heel raise up out of the locked-in position.  Would be a nightmare to walk in, I fear.

I had this exact issue when I tried the premiers. I couldn’t keep my heel locked in even though I felt like I had the right size. The Gfores just fit on my heel in the right place and I can walk 18 with no break in. I wanted to like the premiers more but the gfore fit for me can’t be beat.

This post and the post above sum up my feelings, but I haven’t had enough time to wear Flints yet. The heel lift feels very real, but rest of fit seems good. Gfore fits well literally everywhere but feel heavy, and are bulkier overall. Coming from pro sl, and gfore +1/2 was an easy transition other than weight. Whether or not the Gallivanters hold up time will tell, but MG4+ separated after a couple wears.

I've used those small sticky rubber inserts that women use for the heels on high heel shoes before (hilarious I know). You can get them at any drugstore. Basically adds some cushion on the heel and the shoe will fit more snug.

I have a few pair of both and I prefer the Premiere. I was a diehard Icon Black fan but moved onto the Gallivanter  when they cam out but have since decided to buy a few pair of the Premiere and I absolutely adore them. They are great stability wise and they're very lightweight.

For what it's worth I don't wear socks in either pair and have never once had a problem.

LOL, I went years where I would not wear socks in my golf shoes and I was ostracized by my friends for the funk they would permeate... lmao

Absolutely love my Premieres.  Hate my Hyper Flex shoes.  No support what so ever on a side hill lie.  I am going to buy another pair of Premieres I like them so much.

Good looking shoes.  Do you notice a difference in sole/heel height?  Does one ride higher than the other?

The FJ certainly look taller than the G4 but don’t feel very different when wearing both side by side.   The G4 are more comfy because of the Insole nubs but not by as much as I would have imagined.    Also, I tried the FJ on without socks as some mentioned and was surprised how nice it felt.  That said, can’t bring myself to do that but may try some real no shows and not my typical swift wick maxus socks.

I just really prefer the looks of the FJ Tarlow.

If it were G4 vs Packards for me, I’d personally go G4

I just bought a pair of the toe cap Gallivanters and got a pair of FJ Premiers off Amazon Wardrobe to try. No question, the FJs are going back. The Gallivanters are insanely comfortable out of the box. Look better too.

Been wearing my Gallivanters for two rounds at the beach, and love how they fit and grip the ground. The laces on the FJ premier are also kinda weird, in that it’s only crossed over twice. Will try wearing them more this week to give them a full test, but the GFore really do fit well honestly and that is the recommended half size up.

Have had the same question over the past week and love the insights provided!  Gleaming that it still comes down to personal fit/preference, as all things in golf, and will have to try both on to see what I like best.  But i've been leaning towards the FJs and think that's the right place to start for myself.

I do love the Ecco S-three, yes. They are my go-to shoe.  I have 2 pair.  That’s what I wear 70% of the rounds.  These Premiers will only be used for glam golf.  Nice weather at nice courses.

Comfort can be quite subjective.  My main concern is durability.  I walk 18 holes once a week in high heat, humidity, and dew-covered morning grass.  I don’t usually clean and condition my shoes after each round either, although I’m going to try from now on.

Saw some reports of Premiere soles separating from the uppers.  Any opinions on long term durability of either brand?

If your main concern is durability you really should take care of your shoes...

Wore my FJ’s again and found them less enjoyable than the Gallivanters all around.  Will actually try to return them via FootJoy’s satisfaction policy for pro SL I dislike them that much compared to GFore in the premiere leather shoe category. Pro Sl are great for waking and are my favorite in that category still.

I walked my first 18 in the FJ Premiers today and I own a pair of Gallivaters as well.  I have only come to one firm conclusion...I like them both.  I would give the Gallivanters an edge to comfort on my feet, but I would give the Premiers an edge in stability.  I walk 150+ rounds per year and shoes are a big deal to me.  At first I balked at the price of both these shoes and have gone through a string of Adidas and Pumas all based on light weight sneaker/running shoe design.  In the end I think it is cheaper to own a pair of premium shoes than it is to own/replace 3 pairs of less expensive shoes for the same total useful life.
