Ping i25s vs i210 irons..worth the $ to upgrade??

I picked up a set of Ping i25s and am shocked at how much I like them. They sound and feel great but my only gripe is they’re a bit shorter than my old set which was a players distance.

Not necessarily a bad thing, but I’m wondering if something like the i210 would give me the same feel and sound but with more distance.

I did have these bent to power spec lofts which has helped.

Picked up I25 4-LW for $250 in pretty mint, so not sure if the extra money to go to the i210s would provide any real differences. Wanted to get some opinions.

I played the i25's and now the i200's. I have not hit the i210's.

But for me the i25 and the i200's go the same distance.

I would think the i210's are similar to both sets.

the i210s have a much softer feel. if that matters to you, then its worth it. otherwise, the differences are incremental, a little more forgiving etc., stuff that matters but in smaller measure. I wouldn't do it for distance tho.

Thanks, I actually like the feel of these. I know it’s subjective. I’ve read some descriptions that these are “precision” irons so I’m assuming they’re not meant to be the longest but more consistent

If you like the i25's stay with them.  The i200 and i210 have a more muted feel, which while softer it isn't "better."  I personally preferred the firmer feel.

Distance is mostly about the loft, and to a lesser amount the spin.  The important thing is consistency and knowing your distances.  Long isn't necessarily an advantage when it comes to irons.

You are exactly right.  Very consistent yardages with i210.  Ping did a nice job with that.

Looks and feel will be a personal choice for you.

Also agree that the 'muted' sound/feel isn't always better.  Hit them both off of grass, and see how it goes.

Yes, when G700 was introduced I bought a set and played same for about 70 rounds of golf. Hitting 8-iron from distances where I usually play a 6-iron was fun but my carry distance control and accuracy of shots suffered.

I would say it depends on how much the I210s are going to run you.  If you can get them at a great price, sure, make the jump, but if not, then no.  It took me a good while to finally make the change from my I20s to I210s and feel confident in that choice as I really had no reason to upgrade from the I20s, they did what I needed and wanted.

But such is the life of a flipper and finding good deals.  3 steps removed, but was able to turn an initial $175 purchase into a Sim2 driver...  Did same thing with get my I210s for around $700.

Haha, yeah I’m a total club whore!! I bought the i25s for 250, 4-LW and am not seeing any i210 sets for less than 650 and up. And those are usually 5-PW.

I’ll keep my eye out but based on the comments, but not in a rush.

I echo what many have said. Loft for loft all of these irons will go the same distance. Now lofts for these clubs do vary, with "Power Specs" and "retro specs" in some cases.

I believe the steel is different between the I25s and IE1s, 200s, 210s. All the changes seemed to revolve around feel though. Nothing that makes one club perform better distance wise than the other.

Also agree, you might see some spin differences.

The other area, which I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned involves durability.

I have never owned the I20 or I25 but I think I remember reading about "finish" issue, also which make them wear out faster than others. At some point ping stopped making the I series in the 17-4 steel.

From I 200s onward the finish is called hydro pearl. Its a finish that repels water to retain spin in wet conditions. Its pretty cool and I play first thing in the morning and noticed a difference with wedges that I can attest to.

The draw back to the hydro pearl is that is wears and makes the clubs seem less durable. The new steel is softer too.

My final point and most important point. If you like the I25s, at least stick with them right now. The secondary club market is insane. Back orders for new clubs would make getting a set if I210s more expensive than normal.
