Bryson Out of Olympics

Wondering if he has been able to make up with the brass at Cobra after not being able to play @ the Olympics. I am ditching Cobra no matter what! It’s a toss up between Titleist and Callaway. Taylormade is just too twisted.

Not sure what his dropping out of the olympics has to do with his so called animosity with cobra. I think the whole driver sucks thing was blown out of proportion, and that Cobra guy coming out and talking bad about Bryson made it so much worse. From the clip it seemed clear to be that he was referring to his game not the club in particular. The situation is too blown up now though to go back to talking about that.

Just curious, but why? They make some really good products. What clubs do you have that you are ditching? How did they underperform and what were your expectations of them? Did you demo or get fit before your purchase?

Then he had some things to say about his equipment.

Asked if he thought he could still contend and win the tournament if he straightened out his tee shots, DeChambeau said, “If I can hit it down the middle of the fairway, that’s great, but with the driver right now, the driver sucks. It’s not a good face for me, and we’re still trying to figure out how to make it good on the mis-hits. I’m living on the razor’s edge, like I’ve told people for a long time.”

It's weird how he talks about it in perspective. Many people would say "the driver's no good right now" "the putter's no good right now". He doesn't admit to his current performance in relation to this driver. "the driver sucks".

I see it often on Youtube; a golf "pro" will switch out putters weekly, or monthly because they didn't perform well on a round or a competition. In reality, it's probably the performance of the golfer, not the equipment. A few months later, it will circulate back into play. Probably a lot to do with feel.

 

The clear part here, though, is saying "it's not a good face for me" and "figure out how to make it good on the mis-hits". This is only clear complaint about the equipment.

 

I doubt the mis-hit consistency is to do with the face or head construction, considering he's trying to swing it faster than an aeroplane at take-off - more technique related. You cannot expect every single shot to hit center fairway 100% of the time, no matter how good you are. At least not 400 yards center every time...

 

How about his shaft ? stiffness, tipping, bend point, weight. They're not made by Cobra.

 

It's common, people always want to blame a flaw in the equipment, rather than to recognise it from within their own ability or performance, particularly in golf, where the equipment doesn't really tend to breakdown or slow down like a computer or electrical appliance.

What the hell are you talking about? His drop-out has nothing to do with Cobra.

I always would be curious why you would drop Cobra? They did nothing wrong, Bryson just hit it like crap on that day and got angry over it...

I love how so many people think Bryson plays standard cobra gear! Yer his driver probably does suck. It’s a prototype 6 degree head with a random face, weight spread all throughout it and isn’t even the same shape. The only thing between that and the cobra gear we all play is the name and maybe the head cover😄

Bryson definitely said his driver, not driving, sucks. Ben Schomin was right to call Bryson out. If I were the head of Cobra I would inform DeChambeau that he’s on his last straw with his childish antics. For me personally I think DeChambeau is a poor ambassador and I wouldn’t sign him to endorse any products.  Yes, the whole situation was blown up and it had everything to do with DeChambeau’s childish demeanor and tantrum. He needs to take responsibility for his poor play instead of blaming caddies or equipment. He’s such a tool.

Excellent point.  I mean even the Cobra rep essentially said they've custom made almost every club in Bryson's bag.  Not like a hand picked head with a loft and weight, but like the entire head of his driver is essentially a one-off.

You might be right but I’ve always been respectful and have never thrown a company who is paying me under the bus for my inefficiencies. Unfortunately Bryson has a history of blaming someone/something else instead of accepting outcome as his own doing.

True. But to be fair. It wasn’t just one “bad post” less than positive moment

for him. One could even say there is a pattern at this point. The ants, calling over a 2nd official for the fence OB issue, telling the cameraman not to film him to protect his brand, hitting a band bunker shot and yelling “worst bunkers on tour!”, then of course calling out Cobra and his driver on National television… Did I miss anything? Haha. I mean sure, not exactly all class A offenses, but… Ugh. Still enjoy watching him play though. Definitely entertaining. 

*edit. Oh 😂 I didn’t even know about this latest thing. Not take it so someone that needs it can have it??? Is he joking??? Like some have already said. You are able to walk into NUMEROUS places (for a while now) and just walk right up and get it anytime you want. Maybe he has a different definition of mainstream 😂 WOW. How can he be so clueless?! I'm from a country where we actually have limited vaccine availability and it makes sense for people my and Dechambeau's age not to take doses in front of people like our parents.

 

But for someone in the US to have the same reasoning for why they're not vaccinated yet is just ridiculous.

Uh, that’s not what he said though lol. And your statement isn’t accurate anyway. Delta variant is putting unvaccinated ppl in their 20s and 30s in the hospital. That comes directly from nurses I know working in hospitals. So…
