Those face grooves look rather Bettinardi-ish.

Scotty has been vehement in his refusal to have grooves on his putters stating that they do not work. I am a big of his putters, but it has been proven in testing that they provide a quicker roll for the average player. I just hope this opens the door for a more exploratory effort on Scotty’s part. Doubt it, but hopeful.

But seriously...it looks like Scotty C. is stealing yet another company's design. Who would have thought?

With all due respect. If he did it at the request of a player. And just gave him exactly what he asked for… Is it fair to call that “Scotty C stealing another companies design”?  If anything it looks like Bettinardi copied Rife. I’m no putter expert. So good chance I’m wrong. Haha

There are patents and patent releases for a reason. And most other boutique putter companies follow the same footsteps cameron did so to keep calling this successful man a copy cat is a billboard that your head is still under a rock.

Well, in fairness, EVERY modern blade is just a derivative of the Answer. Scotty does copy designs (every brand does), he is just the most successful at re-branding them and innovating/changing the design just enough to make it unique (teryllium inserts, cherry bombs, etc...). Oh, and the grooves in the Bettinardi and the Evnroll are different.

You're right. It's just a trend here for the scotty haters to single him out like no one else does it. Drives me nuts. And I know they are different grooves it was referring to calling the grooves scotty made bettinardi..ish when it doesn't its just another horizontal grooved face.

Hey. You say Scotty C looks to have stole another companies design. When in fact it looks like the company you say he stole said design from actually appears to have “stole” the design from Rife! 😂 I find it pleasantly ironic… Don’t ya think? 🎶 haha. I can’t speak for anyone else. But I’m in a very light hearted mood 😊 It’s all in good fun.

Different face grooves for Poulter to test

Ian has been using a Phantom with the horizontal grooves since early April. This type of putter has been in his bag throughout the year and this groove pattern isn't new to him but he seems to be playing well with it.

Yes, just trying to wrangle up all that irony for a bit of a joke.

But, I do think I have a point with the design of the grooves. If you look closely, you can see a similar "V" shape to the Scotty grooves that is very much like those employed by Bettinardi - but very different from those found in the Rife - which are a straight milling.

With the combination of the "V" shape, and the milling through the grooves, they tend to grip the ball more effectively than those offered by Rife, Evnroll, even the Nike Methods or SIK grooves.

The only thing I can compare the Bettinardi grooves to are the old Yes! C-grooves which were so sharp that they gripped the ball in a very similar manner. Both result in a superior roll, and I think Poulter is looking for the same thing.

Scotty Cameron made Hideki Matsuyama an xperimental prototype fastback with horizontal grooves at the back end of 2018. A few of these putters were sold through the galleries later that year.

Yes! I initially thought ‘Yes!’ grooves as well. I really don’t take it too seriously. Im not a huge putter guy. Though I definitely appreciate a beautiful putter by whoever happened to produce it. When it comes to gorgeous tour putters, the ones I happen to like the most are typically his. Don’t really get into or care too much how he arrived at the putter I’m lookin at. But I hear he stole most of ‘em from some guy named Karsten. 🤷🏼‍♂️ 😂

Interesting - if there is enough demand then it will make it to retail one day.

Though much is taken much abides;
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I wonder if horizontal grooves will ever make into the retail lineup.

I mean Scotty is running out of talking points for his retail lineup. Horizontal grooves will juice up the demand quite a bit.

It will likely take a big Poulter victory for other pros using Scotty's to take notice of this milling style. Needs enough tour up take before it's even considered for Joe 3-Stab. 😆
