My wife is a better golfer

I feel your pain. My wife was all city in volleyball and basketball. She played volleyball in college and was mvp her jr and sr.year. She got the tennis bug after college and still plays several times a week. She plays golf with me one to two times a year when I drag her out. She hits her 3 iron long and straight on every hole except par threes. She putts lights out. Don’t know how she does it.

Congrats on the second little one and being a good sport. My lady outdrove me a time or two and that definitely put me in my place LOL. Golf is a wonderfully humbling game.

Good story!

I'm a little confused though...  Should she Not be better than you?

She's beaten me on a consistent basis when she plays well. I think the headline was more of a way of saying how impressed I am when I watch her play, even after a long layoff.

Ugh, she probably makes more money than you too!!

Congrats on the 2nd kid!  And just in case the sarcasm isn't completely transparent, I think it's awesome to have a wife that can hold her own on the course.  Iron sharpens iron!

Haha - unfortunately it's not too hard to earn more than a teacher in NC considering how underpaid they are (and all over the country for that matter).

I wish she'd get out and play more. She'd win the Ladies Club Championship by 20 shots.

That's awesome. My wife is crazy competitive, she used to beat her first husband. 🤣

Our local high school's girls team was just named the best in the country. We have a couple high school girls that are plus handicaps. They are really nice girls, and it is an absolute pleasure to play with them.

Forgive me, but the obvious question is, "Could one of those girls have won the 1860 British Open?"

One of them won the state 4A championship, two big Carolinas Golf Association Jr. Tournaments, and one Carolinas tournament that had a bunch of college players, and she's a rising sophomore. So, very possible.

I think @JohnnyCashForever was throwing sarcasm because someone always starts a thread like that.

@caeye0710 I like your wife's style.  She'd fit in nicely with my wife and her golfer gal-pals.  They have been playing in Match play competitions for some time, no fear.

I love it! Best thing that ever happened to me is having my wife get hooked on the game. We play 100+ rounds per year together all over the world. Holidays are planned around golf now LOL.

My wife is a 15 handicap and improving steadily but she will never beat me haha. She has got me for 9 once. And she has broken 80 one time at our home course last year. Takes lessons and absolutely crushes the ball off the tee.

That being said I love travelling on golf trips and watching her whoop on a good majority of the guys we get paired up with. Nothing makes me prouder than watching her improve and kick butt.

I wish she played more. She had a group of friends she grew up playing on the junior circuit with that she'd meet weekly a few years back, but all of us started families and thus the get togethers ended. She tried playing with the older ladies for some time, but mentioned he got sick of playing with people that were just a disaster to be around.

Luckily, as of right now my 2 (almost 3) year old daughter is obsessed with golf and spends an hour or two in our back yard every evening "playing". Not sure if it's just a phase, but hoping if the kiddos get hooked on it, she will want to get back in the game rather than just playing a couple of rounds per year.

Very similar story! We live in the Pinehurst area and called the resort on a random day a few years back and they happened to have a slot for us to pair up. You should've seen how annoyed the guys looked when they found out they were paired with her.

She shot something like an 81 or 82 on #2 that day. Majorly impressive considering she couldn't hit most of the greens in regulation and she was only a couple of strokes behind those guys. They ended up buying us a beer afterward and admitted to being super annoyed about the pairing in the beginning and even apologized if they seemed stand-offish in the beginning.

She's probably one of those types of players that plays better and is more motivated by a "daddy" comment from her husband than one who would play as well in a general club championship. It sounds like you lit a fire under her with that comment.

Same. When my wife and I joined a private club in 2018, she went from playing maybe 3-5 times a year to now playing 60-70 rounds a season. We just got back yesterday from 36 holes at one of the area golf resort/casinos, and we're going on another golf trip in a couple weeks. It does not suck having your wife being hooked on the game.

  • 2 weeks later...

My wife is a better golfer than almost everyone on Hole No. 3 at out home course.

For men, it's a 290-yard risk-reward par 4 from hell that crosses a wilderness hazard into a rolling fairway into a too-thin shelf green. It's a par 3 for women about 125 yards long with an angled approach into the green.

In couples scrambles, she has the unwavering ability to put her 6H shot on the back fringe about 15 feet from the pin.

After the group putts out from a par or a rare birdie, others ask her: "Why don't you play more?"

Even more impressive, she did it dealing with nausea considering we are expecting our second child, but she didn't tell me that until afterward.

Congrats on the second child!

Which one was told to you post-round:  the second child or the nausea??😉
