Messing around with throwback clubs

Busted out my Sonartec SS-3.5 yesterday on the Trackman. Wow does this thing still hold up to today’s 3 woods. Fastest ball speeds I’ve ever registered with a 3 wood, and was hitting it 285 off the tee. It’s a 13.5, and I struggled off the deck, but man was the sound/feel incredible. I’m definitely on the lookout for some more now in good condition. 
 

Anyone else have similar results with breaking out oldish clubs? Anyone still gaming any Sonartec products?

I have an early to mid 2000's "vintage" bag with a Titleist 905R driver, 904F fairway woods, and Mizuno MP 30 irons. All of it is pretty much just as good as anything new.

I recently acquired DCI irons and Big Bertha fairway woods from the same era. I built a long driver from a TM R7. I am also trying an 8802 putter which I believe helps me with distance control (I had one before I should have never let it go).

That's all I've been playing since I started this game 20 years ago since they're affordable and can keep up with the latest and greatest (when it on the button) since golf tech has been stagnant for years and years.

I'm still playing an old TEE XCG 13* titanium 3-wood with a Whiteboard shaft that's pure'd, its crazy good off the tee and still quite good off the deck despite the low loft.  The titanium sound and feel is so addictive that it's taken me 10 years to consider going to another 3 wood, I think these came out around 2008.

Every once in a while I'll break out the r7 TP fairway woods, still great today, long and easy to launch

I hit my backup driver (Titleist 905r) with an off the rack Proforce V2 X/flex shaft from 2006 regularly, and get the same ball speeds as I do with my Ping G410lst with a TX flex shaft  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 

 

My 5 wood is a ladies 19* Adams Tight lies from 2013 with a Evenflow Black 85 6.0 in it. 

 

If I could have found a short money shallow faced Sonartec / Royal Collection wood in decent shape, I would have bagged it most definitely.

To be honest, I still miss some of the old clubs I played with. And what's hilarious is how much cheaper they were. The old titleist 980f fairways were some of my favorite, I paid $40 for it 15 years ago. I took one to the range the other day and was amazed at how well I hit them. I'd say newer tech is more forgiving on bad strikes but really doesn't matter as much on good strikes.

 

The thing missing from modern clubs is the feel in my opinion. A lot of those clubs weren't designed by an R&D team, so they just were better looking and sounding clubs. The carbon crown stuff all feels a little off, and 5+ years later I still trade performance for feel.

I had a Nicklaus air max 3 Wood that I loved when I was younger. I wanna say the shaft was graphite but had a steel tip, but I can’t find anything like that anywhere online so must be going crazy.

 

club was straight as an arrow though, I think it’s still at my parents’ house and will play it next month when I visit

I'm using a Royal Collection (JP Sonartec) 17 degree  V7 Ti - I get it out there pretty well. Nice shaft too ATTAS g7 7x...
