PXG Gen4 ST

I jumped on the spot and ordered Gen 4 ST 5i-PW in extreme darkness. Around 600 bucks after 30 in credit I had (which covered tax) and free shipping. I've been playing 0211 ST this year and made a promise to myself that I'd stick with this set for at least this season, but couldn't resist the new promo.... are you kidding me? At $99 / club, I now have 2 blade iron sets for the price of one iron set (or less) sold by others. I love my 0211 ST which are very forgiving for a blade, but this is just no brainer.ย

Eyeing these at this price. How do they compare to the other blades (blueprint, 620mb, 221 Pro, etc)? ย Currently playing Srixon zx7s, and loving their performance, but not loving the size of the profile. Looking for a smaller footprint (like blueprint) and maybe a bit less spin with exquisite feel. Are these that?

ย

For reference, I thought the sugar daddy wedges were the most solid, phenomenal feeling clubs Iโ€™ve ever hit. Do these feel like the sugar daddy wedges? ย

I feel like they do.ย  The sugar daddy wedge I have is heavy but that is mostly shaft related.ย  My 56 daddy is 529g (TCW) and the 0311ST Gap is 494g.ย  21g of that difference is shaft.

ย

Well struck shots are pretty much effortless.ย  On mishits you know you mishit it, but don't get overly punished in feel or result.ย  Pretty forgiving for a blade and also workable.

ย

Distance and gapping is very consistent.

ย

They certainly wear better than the original sugar daddies (which will rust on the face with scratches and the coating eventually wears off).ย

ย

These are excellent clubs.ย  I put steelfiber i95 in mine and like them more with every round.ย  It took me a while to get used to the i95s coming from elevate tours in my Gen3 Ts, but I did and they perform.

Had my first round ever with them. Played up a couple of tee boxes and benched my woods/hybrids so I could hit the irons as much as I could (4-G). Maybe it was the short distance, or maybe the irons, but I shot a personal best. Iโ€™m a 9 handicap and I feel like Iโ€™ll easily be able to play these consistently.
ย

My miss was out towards the toe and I didnโ€™t feel like I missed out on distance. Yardages were actually a little further than my 2019 0211 set that I used to have, which I thought was interesting given the weaker lofts; this was also on the toe hits. Maybe I need to get them spec checked.ย

Any idea what current build times are like at PXG these days? Ordered on Thursday and curious when to expect them. Are they still trying to ship out in 7 days?

I ordered mine over phone on a Monday and were ready for pickup at my local PXG store that Thursday

Iโ€™ve been mostly lurking on this site for almost 20 years, occasionally jumping in with minimal quality content. Right now, though, I feel compelled to chime in on anything regarding gen 4 st irons, pxg customer service, pxg in general. Iโ€™d like to say first and foremost that I had been mostly a big pxg naysayer for a while, especially when their clubs were the most expensive on the market (by a huge margin) and when the in your face ads started everywhere every day. Well, the ads kind of grew on me over time and the prices have dropped substantially, so my biggest complaints have since faded.ย
My story starts by having a nightmare year with equipment, from damaging irons to ordering irons that didnโ€™t work out to receiving irons with the wrong shafts. Jump to a couple of weeks ago and Iโ€™m panicking from my latest equipment fiasco and am left with very few options to get a set of irons to finish the summer. After hearing about their super quick turnaround, I start digging on pxg, reading reviews on here, checking upper level am and pro bags to see who was using what, etc. I call them up to possibly start an order, talk through things with them, so on and so forth. Long story short on customer service, they were so helpful, excited to take my order and be doing their jobs, helpful when I called back three times to make changes, even digging for shafts in their inventory that showed out of stock. World class. Then I get to paying and the total is absurdly low, which we all are aware of at this point. From there, my irons arrived only eight days after placing the order, just insane given the current wait from most oems. Finally, and most importantly, I get the clubs to the course. 4-pw gen 4 STs and a gen 4 driving iron (x100 and tensei white 100x respectively). These clubs are flat out a joy to swing and strike. I have played blueprints, 620mbs, p750s and these are more enjoyable to me to swing so far and way more forgiving than they should be looking down at them. Even cooler, the driving iron is without question my favorite that Iโ€™ve tried, using a p790, callaway utility and t200 most recently.ย
Coming off a little dramatic here, but I think itโ€™s important for anyone on the fence with these guys to hear about my experience and possibly give it a go. With the money back guarantee theyโ€™re offering, whatโ€™s there to lose? Theyโ€™re not even charging the (admittedly a little high) shipping right now! Here to answer any questions potential first timers might have, but there are for sure others out there with even more pxg experience than I, just really felt like the world should know my story. Thanks for reading!

Their customer service is second to none. I'm currently selling my ST's on BSM even though I had 2 of my best rounds with them my swing isn't consistent enough to leave them in the bag.

ย

I did a fitting at my local PXG store last week and went with the Gen5 P's with Steelfiber shafts. I originally went with chrome but noticed on their web-site that with Extreme Darkness there's no upcharge for the Steelfiber's and the price difference was less than $50. I called the PXG store and they told me my fitter should've made me aware of that but since he didn't they'd eat the cost and change my order. My irons have already been shipped and show arriving exactly a week from my fitting. Can't beat that.

Please keep the reviews and comments coming. I have been eyeing the ST irons since the GEN three version came out. I am a long time blade player, but moved into โ€œtweenerโ€ CBs (think z785/zx7, etc) to gain a bit of distance in the mid and long irons. Currently playing zx7 and hitting them well (especially in the long irons), but the larger profile isnโ€™t my favorite, and they seem to lack the feel Iโ€™m used to.ย
ย

id love to move back into blades, but donโ€™t want to give up that long iron distance. Maybe throw a โ€œTโ€ 4 and 5 iron in with the STs, or do these add a bit of speed in comparison to traditional blades.ย
ย

For reference, my home course has a number of 200+ yard par threes. With my MP20s, that was a full 4 iron for me. Itโ€™s a big 6 or smooth 5 with the zx7s. That has helped my par three performance tremendously! ย

When I did a fitting it came down to the ZX7's, Mizuno 223's and the 0311 ST's. I first bought the 223's but couldn't resist the ST's and bought those about a month later. Liked the feel and the distance was better with the ST's than the ZX7's. I could've gone either way with the ZX&'s and 223's

I feel like the forgiveness in the 4 and 5 is surprisingly good. Iโ€™ve hit a few that werenโ€™t on the screws by any means and didnโ€™t see a substantial loss in distance, but thatโ€™s just my opinion from a pretty small sample size. I was honestly surprised at how thin these were at first and keep thinking Iโ€™m going to need to swap them for 0311 Ts (because I was looking to move towards a little more forgiving iron) but Iโ€™ve yet to be disappointed by forgiveness, feel or anything else with these thus far.ย

Said I would never buy a set, but this deal was good enough to see what they are all about, just needed 6-W, got the black, all standard except 1 flat, plus for me is, I know I like this shaft.

Iโ€™m thinking the same, but a few of the comments about the P are making me think it wouldnโ€™t be too much of a change to go with those 2ยฐ weak instead.ย
ย

Another member kindly replied to me that there wasnโ€™t a noticeable distance difference between his 0211 irons and his hollow (P or T, canโ€™t remember which) long irons.ย
ย

Iโ€™d love a P 3-iron with Steelfiber too, but they seem to be out of those heads now.ย

How does the black finish hold up? ย Similar to the black finish on the vokey?

ย

Some G4 P 8 and PW irons.ย  Only range mats during this past winter.ย  No play and no sandy range turf.

If you hit off a sandy range then the finish will deteriorate quickly.ย  I have extra duplicate irons just for the range, mats or sandy range.ย  Gamers will look great for a long time.
