Due for new irons..

Been playing the Adams XTD Forged for the past 5 years- KBS C Taper 120 Stiff, great irons. I just remember when I was looking for new irons when I got these I also liked the ‘14 Apex irons. Since I’m playing two or three times a month, I’m itching for some more player forgiveness CBs. Those ‘14 Apex’s are hard to find now a days, and the newer models are out of my price range. What’s a good player cavity back iron I should look into from the past couple of years that won’t break the bank? Thanks!

I got bored and just switched from Z785s to Wilson Staff CBs.

I'm really liking the Wilsons. Look great at address. Shorter blade length than the Z785s (which was my only gripe with them) and the sole design is working as well for me as the Z785 so far.

Cobra RAD Speed 3W : Graphite Design AD TP8-S

Srixon ZXU #2 : Nippon Modus 3 120-S

Cleveland Zipcore 50, 54: Nippon Modus2 120/125 S

Cobra MIM Black 58 : Nippon 125 Wedge

Piretti Potenza 370g : Breakthrough Technology Stability Shaft - 34"

‘18 x forged are pretty fantastic and can be had for a good price.  Nice sole design and feel great!  Z785’s get a ton of praise as long as the sole works for you.  You can get a set of Honma 747v for a good price as well.  Honma’s look and feel incredible!  One more, 718 ap2.

I just upgraded from Adams CMBs into Ping i210s and have been super impressed.  They're $125 per club new, so pretty good deal.  If that's too rich, the i200s are awfully similar and could probably be found cheaper used.

This is my issue. I've got 2 sets currently and am in line to buy 2 more by end of year. The Haywood MB's look fantastic and lefties are supposed to be soon.

XTD Forged are super forgiving for their size.  I took the C Tapers out, and went with TT DG 120.  Amazing combo (for me).  Yet to hit anything I like better, and that includes ZX7, i210, and  P790.

Since you mentioned forgiveness as your number one factor, i210 might offer more help.

You've probably seen by now but I just checked the Haywood site and it looks like the LH 100s are available.

PXG 0211 DC - $89/club

PXG Gen 2 0311p or 0311xf - $89/club. That includes fitting session(s) with a PXG fitter. All those models have lots of tech innovations and are very forgiving. The value can’t be beat, imo.

Except the fitting was $50.. Musta missed something.

The Haywood 100's are a bit out of my price range. $1400 for a set of heads is more than my whole bag, including the bag. 🤣

My fitting fee was waived by the fitter during my first session (I’ve had 4 so far). None of the 6-7 guys I know that have had fittings have been charged a fee and not all of them bought clubs. Even at $50 (for a 90 minute full bag session) it’s the best fitting deal anywhere and was the equal of any fitting I’ve ever paid $150+ for at Cool Clubs, etc.

What clubs ya get?

0311XF Graphite 5-pw

I was on my trip and redirected them to the local Fedex/Office location. I picked them up just before closing on Saturday.

Was able to get 1 round in the next day. Without any range time and on literally the first swing with the 5 iron, I won a greenie on the second hole.

Playing them to day in my league, so far so good.

He's looking for something more forgiving, not frustrating.  I would not even entertain 716/718CB's from titleist.

I’ve owned both Titleist and the XTD forged and I would consider it a push as far as “forgiveness”.

Currently playing 716 CB/MB combo because I like them better, feel wise and results wise.

I went with Apex ‘16 .. not even close - the performance is way better. I hit a 180 7iron into the wind, on a rope with a baby draw, and landed & stopped 5’ from the pin.

We all have our stories.  I am in my 70’s and not long ago I could shoot that kind of score.  But we age.  For a few years after taking up golf again in retirement I had been using blades, MP 64.  I certainly liked the Look of those clubs.  But a month or so ago some young man I played with commented indicating I had no business playing blades.  So I managed to get a used set of JPX 921, hot metal irons.  Wow!  I will bet I’ve gained ten yards on each shot.  I love those irons.

Good for you, I have not yet met a Callaway iron I get along with. Different strokes. The comment I posted to was talking Titleist 716/718 v XTD Forged.
