Tuesday of last week was day two of golf for birthday boy. I headed to my favorite place down in Lindsay Land. The weather brought out many and the tee sheet was fully booked. I got in my 45 minute warm up on the range, short game area, and practice putting green. The speed of the greens (medium) just suits me best down at Tryon. Since it was to be sunny and extra warm I suggested we move back to the (peak season's choice) blue tees. When we go back we add 650 yards and I on occasion will be hitting more than middle irons into greens. But the fairways at Tryon roll out well and I have been the driver king of late so it figured it really wouldn't be asking for too much golf course on this November day. I have to assess always though being a short knocker. Mike joined me in playing from the blues but the rest of the group played from the fronts.

We played a fivesome with 4 golf carts. The play was abnormally slow right out of the gate as the course was packed. Slow meaning we played in 4 hours 10 minutes rather than our customary 3 hours twenty minutes. We did dally over shots for 5 minutes a good bit. Feeling the warmth of the sun and being in the company of my favorite golf buddies I was accepting of the pace. I hit the vape pen that emits a very mild TCH fog into my lungs numerous times during the round. I was just fine with having some extra time to take in some more of this year's wondrous color change and chat with the squirrels. Even though I waited a tad here and there I felt in a much better zone than during the North-South match the day before. Golf is different every day. 

 

Fairway on one. Tugged the short iron and missed the green left. What? I never miss the first green. Chip was tidy to 2 feet. Made par. On two hit 3 wood center cut. Hit the green but had a long downhill putt. Navigated the first putt well. Two pars out of the gate. On the par 5 3rd hole I 3 jacket it for bogey. Par 3 number 4 was playing 170. I purred a 5 iron to 3 feet. Birdie number one. Even. Par on the next. Failed to get one up and down on six. Made another bogey on 9 due to missing the green short and hitting a poor pitch. Made the turn with a 2 over 38.

 

This is the spot where I say if I can par # 10 then we might be on to a something special round. 3 wood to an ideal spot. Approach is 171 over water. 4 hybrid to the middle of the green. Useful two putts for a par. Took a 5 wood in to 30 feet on 11 since we were blue teeing it.It was my longest approach number into a par four on the day. Two putts again. Par 3 12th, the site of last week's bounced just wrong shot at my 3rd Ace, I smoothed a 6 iron from 161 to 5 feet. Made that one for birdie number two. One over. Nailed an 8 iron on 13 to 11 feet. It was a risky banked putt there but once again it was two putted. Uphill par 5 next. I have a good bit of success on this hole as it the shortest par five on the course. Driver, 3 wood, and then a 9 iron to 5 feet. Birdie number 3 was captured. Even. On the par 3 next hole I flared my 5 iron wide of the green and failed to get it up and down. Bogey and back to one over. Starting on the 16th tee box I found the middle of the fairways and then hit all the greens coming in. Just steady play it was over the finishing holes. I made 3 pars feeling relaxed and free.  Shot a one over 73. 

 

The North-South game ended in a draw

The Tyron game on November 9th ended in a 6 stroke margin of victory for the old man.

The city boy took care of the country folk once again.    Bravo!

Had a great time at the 24th annual running of the Motul Petit Le Mans. A 10hr road race held in the hills of Braselton GA. Thousands of spectators from around the globe attend each year. Drivers from All around the globe are here as well. I got to meet some really great drivers. Not sure if we have any gear heads in here but, I got to meet and get autographs from Jimmy Johnson, Helio Castroneves, Scott Dixon, Juan Pablo Montoya, Simon Pagenaud and former HAAS F1 drive Kevin Magnussen. This was my 17th consecutive Petit. It is by far my most favorite sporting event held every year. 4 days of camping with a bunch of rowdies!!

I did not get to golf today as I had oral surgery early this morning. I have pretty much slept the day away being groggy from my one hour procedure. When one gets old it means more trips than usual to the dentist/oral surgeon for repairs and rebuilding. It's an ordeal that requires some tolerance to pain as well as patience for the healing time. With stitches in my mouth and the occasional bloody spit being emitted I will forge on and play a round tomorrow. I took an extra day off for recuperation. I head down to South Carolina to play with Mike and the boys at Village Green. The temps are to be in the 70's. hooray

Fantastic pics and looks like a great time.

 

We went to the 2017 Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona.  The sights, sounds, and smells were sensory overload and it was awesome.  Loved the speed and grace of the prototypes but the Ganassi GT Fords and the Corvettes just sounded so beautiful!  We didn't stay the whole night as we just were not prepared for 45 and rain!!!  

VIR is less than an hour north of us and I always vow to make it there sometime...perhaps 2022 is the year!

I know I’ll never make it to Le Mans so the Rolex is definitely on my bucket list. And with my recent life events, I may just try and make the trip this January to the ROAR if I can’t make the 24hr. The Gnassi Ford GTs were just an awesome car. I hate that they stopped that program. VIR is another great track I’d love to visit. There is just no better smell than racing fuel!

Today I play Village Green in Gramling, South Carolina. It's the course with the small greens that are rather sloped. This will be my fourth time playing the track. I feel I know the lay out better now. 

The novocaine has exited my system. The surgery site in my lower jaw is not too sore, so I will need nothing more than two Advil's to be pain free. The weather will be really nice so I won't have to layer up. I am playing with some the finest southern gentlemen golfers that one could find in the upstate of SC.

My driver has been on point for weeks. The new irons are fairly well dialed in. I practiced a bunch of short game shots this week so expect that aspect of my game to be decent. That covers it, wait I forgot putting. Putting for Percival is seemingly always an experiment so who knows? 😅 

I'm going in with some solid confidence. 

The city boy wants to make it two in row !

It will be weird to tell Sid YNWA, for the uninitiated, this is You'll Never Walk Alone, which is the phrase the Liverpudllians use when discussing their LFC squad.  They have seen some players over the years including Steven Gerrard who was a huge favorite of mine years ago.  The guy could flat out ball.  But sports change.  Sports is huge business now, and all of us in Steeltown are thankful Mario arrived and then saved the franchise so many years ago from moving to KC.  But just as things change, think Tom Ley to Chris Berman to Stephen A Smith (what a precipitous slide that was), lots of things stay the same.  Does anyone here remember in a late night TV binge watching hurling/curling on ESPN, and now those hours are filled with talking heads making stuff up with hopes it comes true.  ESPN, for me anyway, sports has been ruined.  Two dorks yelling at each other about who will be great... let's talk about what happened like my boy Tom Ley and Tom Mees.

 

So what does stay the same... my three picks.

Has any franchise been spoken of as the golden child with improvement on the horizon and sucked out loud as often as the J-E-T-S?  I don't think so.  The Lions are terrible, but we know that going into each year, but the Jets always have some shiny new toy the heads on ESPN love to crow about, and then they stink.  Give me Miami and I will gladly give the 3 points.

Here's another franchise, that excepting a couple year run, has also sucked pretty badly.  Tom Coughlin had the boys whipped up into a unit, but apparently he was a booger-face and no one wanted to play in FL for him.  Well, my thought is no one wanted to live in northern FL, but who knows.  Anyway, they are just like they have always been, terrible.  On the other hand, they have taken the mantle of the Jets as the up and comers on the ESPN morning shows as they discuss how many Pro Bowls and SBs Trevor is going to win.  Well, this ain't the super bowl, and they ain't winning.  Give me Jimmy G the playboy and 49'ers and I will give the 5.5 points.

What else stays the same.  The Steelers offense stinks.  The defense is certainly serviceable, but the offense stinks, and so I am picking the under again.  This is a primetime double.  Carrie will sing, Cris Collinsworth will make me annoyed, and the game will be terrible.  For anyone looking to see what I might look like, put about 75 pounds on the frame and youtube "Pittsburgh Dad" as he discusses the Steelers while watching them on TV.

 

My virtual trainer told me to focus on my flat abs as this svelte 20 something does an exercise... Hey hot woman on the yoga mat, my flat abs are pretty effin' hidden!
