If I was betting and picking in tonight’s game I would have a inkling to take the now healthy Russell Wilson on prime time to beat the beatable WFT.
But the romantic in me prohibited my urge to bet this game.
so it’s full throttle upset mode.
How bout dat WFT!?
Playing across the nation against one of my favorite Qb’s ever.
Go WFT! Hail Mary! We need you!

Hail The WFT!
All that said I would have bet Seattle and the over

Celebrating my bday with a trip to Cabo San Lucas.  Got out today for the first of 4 rounds on the Nicklaus design Club Campestre.

As expected, massive fairways with massive green complexes but 4-5 smaller green areas within the larger footprint.  Some were down right goofy 🤪 if you were not in the right spot.

I am currently hobbled with what might end up a torn patella…based on the symptoms.  So my swing is all arms because I can’t plant my left leg. I am taking 2-3 extra clubs and have a weak slice most of the time.  But I played it well and made my way around in a solid 77 without any birdies on the par 71 course.  My buddy on the other hand had a rough day.  Greens ate him up and it bled into other aspects of his game.  But it was still good fun.  Course is nice, fun and was in good shape.  I am not a Nicklaus fan, so doubt I would play it again.

Tomorrow we head to Diamanté to play Tigers course.

It's looking might fine out there P48.

Happy Birthday!

Sorry to hear you are in pain. 77 on one leg is a USEFUL accomplishment. But you are a player. ⚡

Enjoy your getaway and thanks for sharing with the fellas.

Wonder if the Charlotte PD in the cruiser on the left saw you swiggin' your bourbon bottle in the passenger's seat? Your view of field was nice. Panther Cat out front looks extra menacing. Glad you got to attend and see the WFT be victorious. Thanks for sharing the photos and telling us how it went down.

Important Announcement  🌟

The following idea was sent to me by brother Q.  He suggested we have a little action (picks) on this weekend's big college football games. I think it's a grand idea and why not continue on with a few bonus picks regarding the college football playoffs carrying into the National Championship game.

So let's do this.

Make two picks from the following 4 games this weekend.

You hit both picks you win 3 points.

You hit one, lose one you break even. 0 points won or lost.

You lose both you lose 3 points.

Baylor          v.        Oklahoma State -5 1/2          46 1/2

Houston      v.        Cincinnati -10 1/2                   53 1/2

Alabama      v.       Georgia -6 1/2                         49 1/2

Iowa             v.      Michigan -10 1/2                      43 1/2

For what?  Another season of poo!  No thanks!

The real question might be "has the era of Brady and Belichick has reached its pinnacle?" And now with insane new penalties and extra time for replays the NFL might be reaching its peak, sports gambling is legal now in many states, hell Vegas even has their own NFL team. It's all party time on the USS Poseidon. But how long will it last? How long will people maintain their interest in watching the product as it is now? I remember when quarterbacks who ran for first downs had to be very cognizant of incoming ballistic missiles like a vulnerable ship in German U-Boat waters.  Now they go down into a fetal position literally less than a second before impending doom. If touched the yellow hanky is thrown and the game slows down to a grinding halt. Can anyone define defenseless receiver? I sure as hell can not after seeing some of the calls over the weekend.  And now the parity issue.  Yes it's nice that any given team can beat another on any given Sunday. It really is good for the game.  But there will come a point in time where the great franchises will be watered down due to salary cap restrictions and teams not able to compete when the great Grim Reaper wields his scythe and takes the knee of your favorite running back or franchise pro bowl defensive lineman, whacks and ankle from your 6 year franchise wide receiver just before the playoffs start.  For now we are all systems go! Fantasy Football is a major industry on the world wide web, so is daily fantasy football, gambling is taking off on the web.  Brady and Belichick are still in the conversation for winning yet another Super Bowl.  But as the glorified touch football season winds down I start finding myself more worried about my picks, my fantasy team, my bets, my prop bets on sites like Monkey Knife fight. I won money for picking Antonio Gibson to rush over 82 yds and Tyler Lockett for getting over 70 yds receiving. My point is that the hooks are all out there.  But I can't for the life of me, tell you who the starters are for my favorite NFL team  I just stopped caring after all the mess about a name change, the owners sponsored sexual harassment staff going after women employees and cheerleaders, nor do I really watch any game from beginning to end. Red Zone is great, but if I wasn't connected to the NFL through the web, I would not watch that either.  I find myself becoming more intrigued with hockey and even basketball now that the Wizards are starting to play large and physical again. Soon the NFl will have a 4 hour game and that is when I will repaint the bedroom, it takes about two hours to get competent help at the nearest home improvement store, so that will put me at half time. The product is leaking and the WFT winning the division at 7-9 proves me right.  People are just to self absorbed to realize it.  They just don't care right now. It's cold outside what else are we going to do in the winter that doesn't involve a dose or two of Viagra?

Even the best teams in the league would not be able to stand up to the better teams even ten years ago. With the exception of Brady, Wilson, Rodgers, Ben in his prime, Manning and Brees, not much excites me. Josh Allen has a cannon but I am not convinced he is going to be great. Instant replays that still are not conclusive is really annoying, and the extra time it takes to get through a game is like watching a drivers ed video. They should ban huddles, run the no huddle every play.  The best team will survive the weak minded and poor coached teams will lose. How long will the scatback QB remain in vogue, Lamar Jackson, Kyler Murray,Jalen Hurts, this kid Justin Fields, they all can run, they can pass sometimes, but injuries are always a thing with these guys and they never come back the same. I think of a great running qb as one who runs when they have to win, not as part of the game script. Mahomes, Rodgers, can pass the ball first.  Give me Drew Brees, Rodgers or Peyton Manning and even the king of dink and dunk Tom Brady and you can have LaMar and the rest. Lets count our rings in twenty years. Sell the NFL buy Ethereum or Bitcoin.

That's my take what is yours?

Round 2 at Tigers course, El Cardonal.  There is a very plain, lightly stocked golf shop.  Not much worth even considering.

The practice facility is top notch. With an outdoor grill and bar right there to order drinks and food.

We had a forecaddie for the round.  He is there to grab your bags and clean your clubs on the range.

My buddy and I were really like ok’ing forward to get to play this course.  So our carts were loaded up in the carts and to the first hole we went.  The starter provides some brief course info and informs you of the complimentary drink and snack snacks on 4 and 14.  14 has grilled sausage with peppers available. Beer and margaritas included as well.

So I admit, I did not do any reading on Tigers design philosophy.  So I was not sure what to expect.  First off, there are odd spacing distances btw tee boxes.  We chose 6800 because the next one down is 6200.

After the first few holes, you get a sense of what the philosophy is…a lot of risk reward off the tee.  There are bunkers strategically placed for the player to either take on by carrying, avoid by playing left or right or leaving short.  The greens seem to all be designed with Tigers creativity in mind.  He seems to want player to play back stops or slopes with your iron shots.  The greens were running 9.5 and were very sticky.  You could throw most shots to the hole.

The course seems to be broken into three 6’s.  The first six is quite tough and puts premiums on every shot.  The 2nd 6 are not as difficult but you are presented with decisions on every hole. The final 6 are just fun…probably the most fun finishing holes I have played.  And they are made for scoring.  I finished 16-18 with birdies to steal the match with my buddy, who played significantly better.  All in all, this is a pretty solid course and once you start understanding the course, it becomes far more enjoyable.

Side note:  came close to buying the timeshare deal they have for here.  But in the end, I realized we like variation too much to be tired to one place.  But it was close.

Unfortunately I have been sidelined with a strong bought of influenza as we start the month of December.

 Last Monday

Feeling my age

4 pair

3 greens

Low T

During my warm up session on the range things seemed pretty normal.

Mike brought a newcomer to our group for Monday's game. Jeremy was a friend of Mike's who normally only plays on weekends as he is still a working stiff. Jeremy was a long hitting scratch player. Erik was in the group and on the first tee stated to me that since he beat me at Village Green two weeks prior and then I beat him last week at Tryon this was to be the rubber game to decide who was the champion golfer between us for the month of November. He proposed a $20 bet and I accepted.

At 12:10 PM we sent our first drives into the air.

White tees

5722 yards

68.2

120

It was partly sunny with 15-20 mph winds and a temperature of 48*

Since I am a winter golf warrior I came prepared with the 4 pairs. No this is not a game of cards P3P. Four pairs for preparedness (see picture 3). One pair of FJ winter golf gloves, one pair of hand warmers that were inserted into one pair of golf cart mittens, and one pair of spliff's to assist in a proper mental state for play.

Some how three of us (myself included) hit the fairway on one and then got our approach shots inside 12 feet and then drained our birdie putts. This was a first for me in any group starting out on hole number one down at Tryon. Another fairway but missed the green on two, got it up and down for par. One under. On three tee I sliced the living crap out of my drive into the houses on the right. OB.  No damage to the home but it resulted in a double bogey on the card for me following the re tee. One over thru 3. The par 3 fourth hole played 160 into the wind. My hybrid landed long, but again I hit a decent chip and saved the par. I then made par's on 4, 5, and 6  that all involved up and down saves as I missed all three of those greens as well. I was still only one over. Number 7 a par 3 playing 136 saw me hit my second green of the day, but I messed it up on the green,  a three jack bogey. Two over. Hole 8 is an uphill par 5 that played straight into the wind. We all hit the fairway but Jeremy's drive was a half mile ahead of mine. I measured his drive at 295. That's 295 uphill into a 20 mph wind !! , man that dude crushed driver and it was a joy to watch him hit it 300+  all afternoon long. I hit a solid 3 wood leaving me a 115 yard approach shot. I just missed the green again, and then I came up and out of the chip and bladed it across the green. Bogey 6.  On hole 9 (again into the 20 mph wind) I found the fairway but missed the green just short with my 5 wood from 170. I hit a decent chip but missed the 3 footer. Bogey. I made the turn with a 4 over 40. I was nowhere in contention after jumping on the bogey train at the start of the seventh hole.

after 9

Jeremy -2

Mike  -1

Erik   2 over

LP     4 over

Hit the fairway on 10 and as I got over my intimidating approach shot of 179 yards over water I began to feel weak. Pushed the 5 wood bad and found myself in the big mounds to the right of the green. I hit a filthy 60* from twenty yards that was softly set down on a small piece of green that was near the hole. I missed the 4 footer. Bogey on the hardest hole at Tryon. 5 over.  A fairway and another missed green on 11, up and down for par. On the par 3 12th I tugged my iron so bad if it hadn't hit a tree it would have been OB. I hit a nice sand wedge from 55 yards to 10 feet but failed to make the par saving putt. Six over. I at this point in the round felt like my energy level was decreasing rapidly with each new hole that I played. The fact that I watch a good bit of football on tv my mind turned to the commercials where Doug Flutie and the Big Hurt are saying it's Low Testosterone( LT) that effects us guys as we age. Perhaps I should try a bottle of "New Man" pills I wondered?  On 13, the hole where last week I hit the 3/4 gap wedge with precise control over the water and made the short birdie putt a disaster occurred. Tee shot fine, but thinned my 9 iron enough to miss clearing the water and onto the green. Rinsed. Dropped another. Airmailed the green. Ended up with a triple bogey 7. Nine over with four to play. On # 14 the par 5 I pushed my drive into the trees. I hit a low punched 5 wood in an effort to find the fairway again. I put it in the rough on the other side of the hole. Hit a fine hybrid from there just short of the green. Thinned another chip.  two putt bogey. Eleven over. On the par 3 15th (second picture) that played 166 I hit a pin seeker 5 iron that ended up easily being the best tee shot of the group. I missed the 4 foot curler birdie bid. But hell yeah! I finally hit another green. This was my just my third green hit for the round. On the finishing holes I went par, par, par. I missed all 3 greens coming in as well, but my wedge work proved fruitful and I made all three par saving putts. My putt on 18 was a 35 footer that was easily my best roll of the day. Had I not of gotten it together during the finishing holes I could have easily hit the 90 mark. I was really drained of energy when I finished the round. I shot an 11 over 83 and I finished a distant 4th.

Jeremy         71

Mike             73

Erik               77

old man        83

When I drove back up into the mountains and reached home I began to feel pretty ill. Around midnight my case of the flu was full on. No golf and No work currently is my situation. I am aiming for a return to both this weekend. I feel 30 % better today and have begun finally to hold down some food.

I had an enjoyable time out in the breezy cool afternoon air down in Tyron with my golfing friends for sure regardless of my score.  I am still amazed I hit only 3 greens during that round. 🙃

    • Sony Open Pics from January 11, 2022 Part 1
I was able to get out to the Sony Open today to take a few pics.  I guess due to Covid precautions they kept the spectators pretty far from the players.  Also due to camera restrictions they've put in place, I wasn't able to bring the big lens like I normally do. Hopefully they'll ease up on the ropes and I'll be able to get more pics tomorrow!
