Players irons...distance vs. control?

Chunkier at the top than AP2s? Not to my eye, but everyone is different.  Now you are contradicting yourself on forgiveness - first the T100s are just a "tad" less forgiving and on mishits low on the face, now the zx7s are noticeably more forgiving, etc.  Plenty of irons aimed at players who hit it long and know where their ball is going and not "everybody" wants more distance.  It's normal to talk oneself into and out of different irons, believe me. Only IMO, but when I've erred on having to talk myself into some aspect of a club it's usually a losing effort in the long run.

If its been over 10 days and you can't make a decision, maybe try some other irons and/or go back and have another session with the fitter with these irons and see if a break from the fitting makes a difference?  Have you hit both outside on turf? You should.  Not sure what the focus on "spin" is without seeing real life ball flight - if the zx7 7i isn't flying as high as you like, for example, I wouldn't buy them thinking some lessons will fix that issue.  BTW, I bought my zx7s after a rudimentary fitting, don't hit the 7i as high as I would like (still love the irons) BUT if I had your swing speed I guarantee I'd be hitting it as I as high I like (and it really is a 6 1/2 iron compared to my old set).  On the other hand, even with a bit of a lower trajectory it stops with authority on the greens with no problems at all, so plenty of ball stopping spin for me.

It's vexing to demo irons, but the head/shaft/real world performance should be something you absolutely love, head over heels, not she has a list of these good qualities and these so-so qualities.  If you aren't in love with either then dumps her now or have another date or two and see how it goes and then maybe dump her, ummm them, lol.  (Obviously, I have other issues).

Seems to me the answer is to go with the Zx7's and bend them weaker, tighten up the gaps on the bottom end.

Ultimately, I wouldn't worry that your 32* or 34* club says "7" on the sole (or if it says "6" or even "5").  It's still a 32* or 34* club.  Loft still dictates distance, the club number has been given far too much weight over the years...

Or just the above. 😉

It might have just been the 7 iron playing tricks on my mind. ZX7 was more forgiving for me the more I looked at the data, even though the T100 was close. I pulled the trigger on the ZX7s after hitting them again and actually got my set in yesterday since they had my shafts! Topline isn't chunky at all now that I've seen the full set, just not as thin as the T100.

I did a lot of overthinking, lots of people on here seem to think the ZX7 is better for the digger and T100 is better for those who have a shallower AOA. I'm the latter but find the ZX7 vt sole is great through the turf. Distance consistency was good and hopefully with better ball-striking I'll get the spin rates up. The face is butter, it might be confirmation bias but I think it feels better than my AP2s and the 921 tours I was testing too.

What swung me was the blended lofts where the PW ends up at 46* like the T100 so I still have consistent gaps at the bottom of the set and can take easier swings with the longer irons. I had a 5 year break from golf during college but my swing will hopefully come around with the coach I'm working with.

It's tough picking clubs right now...I can't fathom clubs getting much better than the options we have now from every manufacturer! It doesn't make it easy on us gear junkies.

I'm as fickle as the next golfer and picking irons can be very difficult.  I love the zx7s off any turf, dry or wet, and so I'm a firm believer in the sole design and love the look at address and they seem forgiving for their design.  I'd put the feel over any version of AP2s I had for sure, and I had at least 3 different ones.

Sounds like you've got good speed and a shaft that works, so I wouldn't think the spin should be an issue for you but I'm no fitter.  Funny that I saw this post today because as much as I like the zx7s, after playing them for a good 4 months, I put my old Legacy Blacks back in the bag and fell in love with those all over again, lol.
