One did not have a set of clubs? Don't know has that was allowed?

That's the new breed.  It is stunning the number of people who show up with one set and think that sharing is okay.  Even if they are walking.

Played Nashville National today and shot 38, and 42. I wanted so bad to break 80, and need to quit thinking about it all the time as it gets quite frustrating. I was not feeling sick like last week when I shot 93. I really don't know how I played that day, and it took awhile to recover as well. Three birdies felt great! Backed up a sand wedge for one of them, awesome!!

The old birds I play with at Western Hills in  Hopkinsville, Ky have propane heaters in their golf carts, so the cold weather does not slow them down at all. I had a wool under layer, and hot pockets as well as 4 layers to keep warm. I ordered a woolen bicycle cap, that covers the ears to help out as well.

Rain and illness put a damper on golf at the end of the week! Oh well,  the body needed a break.

This is my fear, that I can't play golf at times because I hurt here and there; gave all my best energy in life to just make someone else wealthy lol.

That was my number 1 reason for early retirement.  I wanted to be able to enjoy myself while I was physically able.

Retired at age 58 after we sold our last bed and breakfast.  I took at PT job at the local Muni on the maintenance crew for the free golf.  That way I didn't need to talk to the public!!

I played numerous days a week.  About 2 years ago I gave up the pt job and joined a semi private club.  I play about 3 or 4 days a week.  I also ride my bike 3 days a week and that keeps me off the golf course!    Cycling is expensive in the long haul but not each time you ride.

I guess I am going back to work as I just submitted my Resume! Happy Days are over for now. Played Sat and today. Shot 88 both days. The usual blow up holes got me. I have never played so much golf before, oh well.

As a result of being almost retired, have as much time as I wish for golf, but keep it to 2-3 rds per week.  Wife still works.  We just got back from a ten-day golf trip, and played every other day, which was comfortable.  Fortunately, I have interests other than golf that keep me occupied.  Planning another golf trip in a few months, out of state, that should be fun.

I am soon to be retired and have too much time for golf. I have played as much as 4 rounds in one week. I am going to go broke at this rate! If I lived by a golf course I would go broke! I am 64 and have issues with my eyes, but I don't let that stop me from playing.

I'm also a retiree, but I have a reduced rate senior membership at a club.  I have access to all the club amenities all the time except the golf course.

Golf is restricted to weekdays under this plan which is ideal for retirees.

Leave the course to the poor working stiffs on the weekends.

If you look around, and you expect to play a lot, you might find a great deal like that which could ultimately be more cost-efficient than green fees,

It's also likely to make new friends as well, if that interests you.  I know that it doesn't interest everybody, but it worked out well for me.

Especially when several of my old buds took the same deal.

Depends on how serious the cycling is.  My last bike was $12,000.  Just a rear wheel costs more then a set of PXG irons, $3000.  Handlebars were $3,000.  Replace a tire and it's $150 per wheel.  Now you can ride everyday at no fees, unlike golf.  But the initial cost is crazy.  If something breaks or you crash you are talking big dollars for repairs, even doing the work yourself, like I did. At one time I had about $30,000 in bicycles sitting in my home shop. I had 8 bikes hanging on the wall. Once you get into racing on weekends those costs go crazy.  $150 to $500 entry fee, over night hotels, costs go up real quick.

By comparison in the long haul, golf is cheaper.

It costs $23 for the green fees, $9 for the pot, and $5 for a bucket. That is not bad at all. I am going back to work most likely, so all the golf tournaments will be gone for awhile. Doesn't really matter as it will soon be very cold, no thanks.

I have many (young) friends who are retired. These golfers either work part time at a golf shop, or marshal at a local course. Either way, they get discount or free golf from their volunteer work as marshals or from their services at the shop. Even so, some courses give military discounts as well............... And there's Golf Moose. lol

This is so true.  One of the marshall's at the course I play was a VP of sales for one of the largest pharma company.  Needless to say he didn't need the cash, but with his role at the course he gets to play 2 times a week.  Monday, Tuesday.

Any other day he wants to play he plays other courses.  Saves moved but isn't bouyed to one course.

Good for you and congratulations. I would offer up taking up some other activity rather than being on a golf course 4 times a week. Easy to get burned out on the game. Always want to keep the game something to look forward to and not just another activity that fills up your time.

I think my fun days are over as the boss wants me back. Plus I may be traveling as well. Played three courses this week, so.... I still need to break my new irons in, at least 10 courses. I will play as much as possible till work starts again.

Can you work 2-3 days a week and then play 3 days a week. You can also save a lot of money so a few years later you can afford to play without going broke.
