Watched a pro do one of my little pet peeves

Recommended Posts

Watching the Ladies British Open today,  and saw an American player do something on the green that I've always considered a novice move.   Lauren Stephenson was on a green & went to pick up one of her clubs laying on the green & she used her foot to press the head of the club down thereby lifting up the grip of the club so she wouldn't have to bend over all the way over to pick it up. That little move will usually leave noticeable dent in the green.  Anyone else find this a bit irritating, or am I just being a bit picky today?  🤣

actually the assumption is that this move will usually leave noticeable dent in the green but the reality is that it doesn't have to if you don't be a bonehead when you do it.  I do this, I've paid attention for years what it does when I do it, I never leave an impression or a dent when I do it. Maybe you leave a dent because of the method you use. I doubt she's leaving an impression either and is doing in a way that does not leave a dent, just like many of us.

This doesn't bother me, but I can see how it would bother someone else.

When I see Sergio spit into a cup after holing a putt, that kinda bothers me.  But then I realize that I'll (1) never play that course in my life and (2) I'll never be in a group following Sergio Garcia.  Heart rate back to normal.  BTW, has Bones and/or David Feherty been named as asst. captain of the US Ryder Cup team yet?  If not, is it too late to start a petition for Bones?

This. So I've never done it on the green because I've never had a wedges on the green in the first place. I will do it elsewhere though. coffee.gif

Unless you are intentionally trying to dent the green doing this - or intentionally trying to find something to complain about - this really shouldn’t be a concern

That's what I do, too.  The idea of leaving a club on the green just doesn't register with me.  And whether stepping on the club head leaves a mark or not, I wouldn't consider doing it.  But then, I'm also careful to not drag my feet across the green and I fix other golfers' ball marks.

I see people do it now & then, & more often than not, it leaves a dent in the green.  But.....I guess I'm just being picky today.

Nevermind.......     🤣

All these folks that claim they don’t make a dent doing this are likely the folks that also claim you can’t hear the music they are playing outside their cart.

Delusional. 🙂

If you're denting the green you're putting to much weight on the club.  I had to go under the knife last year for my back, I'll do whatever I can at this point to avoid bending down over and over.

Aeration benefits! Luckily I can still toss mine around and pick them up, hope I don’t have to deal with the issue, but you never know.

Hopefully, we live long enough that it becomes an issue.  I was at the course the other day and had to wait for an old man to cross the driveway from the parking lot to the clubhouse.  He was carrying 3 clubs, walked with a can, and was wearing a large back belt for stability.  Took him a while to cross the street.  I saw him later on the putting green.  He didn't look too stable but he was out there.  God bless him.

We should get you and the headcover guy together for a round.

Add the guy who got pissed at somebody who put a tee by his ball when he hit into them, and you'd have a killer grouping.

I'd love to be the fourth in that group. I'd crank up my bluetooth speaker on the first tee and watch the drama unfold 🤣

Lol. That would be good for a few great stories.

Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.
