Taylormade Vintage Bag Identification

Hello! I found a vintage Taylormade bag in near-perfect condition and had to have it. It wasn’t particularly cheap and I have no plans to sell it; in fact I plan to use it unless it ends up being rarer than I think.

 

I’m hoping someone can help identify it or provide more information? I think it’s from 80s or early 90s. I’m usually good at finding things online, but I’ve only found it once online on some auction site and it’s stuck behind a paywall so thought I’d try my luck here. Thanks!

It’s a dark blue, but yes it does seem purple in the photos. Whoops 🙂

Alright, here’s what I got. The bag looks super similar to a headcover I’ve previously seen browsing eBay. Taylormade Twist Flex. After some research, looks like Twist Flex was a shaft in the Tour Preferred System 2 woods, which were from 1998 according to a Golfworks document I found.

Thanks, I think you’re onto something. I was way off on year estimate though!  And maybe I’m colorblind because the bag sure looks blue to me, but another commenter said purple and the headcover you mentioned is definitely purple too. Interesting, thanks again!

I don't think you were far off on the years. I went to iron finders.com and look at irons that they have descriptions of in chronological order and pictures of those irons.

The first year of the second Logo TaylorMade had is the same logo on your bag. It looks like they used it for about four years, 1986 to 1990.

The third Logo TaylorMade had started in 1990 or 91. (thur the SuperSteel and first Burner product lines)

And I seem to remember some pretty wild purple and oranges back then on merch/.  I would say the bag is from the late 1980's. '88 or '89.

The plot thickens! Thanks for the info, I've never heard of ironfinders until now. I thought it was resolved with the Flex Twist ('98) as the headvover seemed to be a solid match. I'll have to dig deeper on the site you suggested. Thanks again!

I remember carrying (caddie) that bag when the Taylor System 2 clubs came out early/mid 90’s...just before their 1st Ti driver.

I'm pretty sure they had stopped making/selling the System 2 Flex Twist clubs well before '98. I bought a new Burner Bubble 5-wood in '96 and System 2's were on the closeout or used rack if you even saw them then. I feel like System 2's were a 1992-1993 thing. I think the headcovers were dark blue or dark purple with lighter purple stripes. My guess on the bag is somewhere in the 1990-1993 range.

Seems the consensus is late 80s/early nineties. In the sun it's definitely purple, what an interesting color combination!

Trying to think of the 1st club to come out with a free matching model headcover...could it be the Callaway Bobby Jones S2H2-?  

 

I can only remember the vinyl stringed together covers & the poms before then.

Tommy Armour Black Saturn graphite driver waaaaay back came with one.
