[Second] Club fitting worth it for 13yr old's first adult set?

Hi there.  I have a 13 yr old son who plays competitively and has just about outgrown his Flynn Golf junior clubs (they've been great for him).  I took him to Roger Dunn yesterday and they brought him into hitting bay with an employee to help fit him.  Now admittedly, I haven't kept up on golf equipment in many years so I have NO idea what the latest and greatest is, and was hoping the fitter could help.  He asked me what clubs I wanted to try out and when I told him I didn't know, he was pretty perplexed at my not knowing and after some thought brought out a few game improvement heads:  Taylormade Sim2 Max OS, Callaway Mavrik MAX, and when I told him I was curious about Mizuno he brought out the JPX-921 Hot Metal

 

When my kid started hitting in front the machine he was spraying and mishitting it everywhere b/c he wasn't used to the length and weight, so there just wasn't much useful data.  In the end, all we could really confirm is that - 1) his current clubs are too small for him and 2) he should go with a graphite shaft (he recommended 50 grams).

 

Later we went to the range and for fun I had him hit my Titleist MBs and wouldn't you know, he was hitting them clean and straight.  So now I'm more confused than ever.  Since the transition to ANY adult model is going to be awkward for a junior and will take getting used to, should I just pick any decent player’s model (‘Conventional’ MPF) and let him find his groove with them? 

 

I was considering dropping the money to take him to somewhere like Club Champion, but would it be worth it at this stage? Or would it only be worth it after he's gotten used to adult clubs?  Any suggestions?

Go get a professional fitting as your jumping off point.

13yo should not be using junior clubs.

 

Posts like this confuses me, because OP says the son plays competitively. 

I highly doubt any of his competitors are using US KIds clubs at that age? 

 

If he has trouble hitting balls, I strongly recommend getting lessons before fitting.

Absolutely get a professional club fitting. Find out who the best are in your area. Matters a LOT for competitive junior players

don't go by age.  go by size, strength and skill level.

It may be that he was trying way too hard to impress the folks watching him when he was in front of the machine.  Teenage boy.
