Bryson DeChambeau on why he’s competing in the World Long Drive Championship

I dont think he stands a chance against some of the real LD competitors. On his youtube, it was remarkable to see him grunting and huffing, I think maxing out at 212mph; then a LD comes up, no warmup and on the first swing is at 213.3.

Seems like he´s doing pretty well

412!

that was the sort of number that was winning a few years ago, so on the face of it he is a little over matched, as expected.. as much as I am following it, they reckon there are about 10 guys over 225 ball speed, which I dont think he is close to..

Gotta hand it to Bryson.

1.  The guy just hit a 412 yard drive.  PLEASE NO "YEAH BUT............." CRAP

2.  How many eyeballs coming in for this event because Bryson is participating.

"Yeah but" it would've been 72 w/out Bryson.  😄

You really think it would have been that high? 🤣

I clicked the link above. Four guys I have never heard of all hitting at the same time. I watched ~30 drives between the four of them and two balls counted…  😴

I had to look it up on youtube.  The official website didn't have a livestream link even though they said they had one.  That might be a small part of the reduced viewership.

Also, it was during the middle of the day on a Tuesday.  It all adds up to "not much interest" if people have to think about how to watch vs just selecting a channel.

Give me a break, he did really well. He also generated a ton of publicity for the PLDA tour. Overall it was a lot of fun to watch and will be interesting to see how far he can go.

not that much of a fan of bryson or long drive ...

for some reason, am a fan of this ... go figure ...

Kyle Berkshire will leave him a good couple of yards behind though.  Makes consecutive drives of 450 yds. When noone driving at the same time goes over 400. He´s allegedly a plus handicap golfer and I read somewhere about his musings on making it on the tours after the LD career.  Pretty cool to see a guy playing who hits his iron 8 300 yds in a simulator...

He’s a good follow on YouTube. Most of his stuff is course vlogs and trying to improve his game rather than straight LD content.

I enjoyed the interview I saw with Bryson after - he's having fun, no pretense about being as good as the really good guys and said he's trying to shine a little light on the event, which he definitely is.  Uh-oh, if he has other reasons is he . . . . lying?  LOL, couldn't help the reference to other silliness on here.

He's doing okay - not going to win but then he's not Monte Scheinblum!

Enjoyed watching it.  What impressed me was his accuracy.   I’ve tried to watch long drive in the past.  And it always bores me because they’re so wild.  Maybe 1 in 20 balls in the grid.  Bryson putting 75% or more in the grid.  Which is impressive.

side note. Can’t help but wonder if the Volvik golf ball makes a difference on length.   Maybe it’s longer ?  But I wonder if it’s not shorter ? .

Yeah this DeChambeau long driver guy might be good enough to make it on tour I reckon.

He's got more chance than any of the other competitors.
