A round with no blow up holes!

Recommended Posts

I finally did it. I just had my first 18 hole round (or at least the first one that I can remember) in which I didn't have a single score worse than bogey on a hole.

The problem is that I shot an 82. 13 bogey, 3 birdies and only 2(!) pars. 41-41 on a par 72.

I'm a mid-capper (currently a 12) that has above average iron play. When my tee game gets going I can go on scoring streaks, but I am always good for a few blow up holes per round, especially off the tee. So to not have anything I would consider a total blow up felt great.

Sure, I had my share of mistakes during the round...a drive into a lateral hazard here, a flubbed chip shot there...but nothing I'd consider a blow up, so it FELT like I was doing better. It is weird how the absence of a double bogey (or worse) makes you feel much more in control of your game than simply scoring well. I shot a 41 a week ago with 6 pars, two bogeys and a triple and that didn't feel nearly as solid as what I did yesterday.

My last round was kinda like that I had 1 blow up hole but for the most part it was just par and bogeys but had 2 doubles as well. Ended up being my second best round ever to date but just making the right choices on shots made a huge difference, just punching out under a tree or branch and advancing the ball 100 yards forward vs trying to go over a tree leading to me hitting it, dropping next to the trunk and having a hard punch out just makes me frustrated.

I'm seeing that more in my game and if I continue this process I should see better scores. But again man it's crazy what just taking the safe shot can do to a score.

I had one of these scrappy rounds yesterday. No birdies, ten pars and eight bogeys. Considering how lousy my game felt I was happy at the end of the day.

As a 20, I consider a "blow up" hole to be triple or worse.

Best 18 hole round I've ever shot was +9, with 3 birdies, 6 pars, 6 bogeys, and 3 doubles. And I was proud I didn't have any blow up holes lol.

Blow up holes have been my biggest struggle this year.  I'm playing some of the best golf this year that I've had in years, but I almost consistently have at 1 or 2 doubles, or even a triple thrown into the card every round.  Really frustrating and still trying to work through avoiding those.  I know what I need to do, just need to do it.

I'm a 10 and shot a similar round on day one of a tournament this past weekend. 81(par 71) with no doubles or worse and one birdie on #18. I made 11 bogey, 5 pars and 1 birdie. I hit the ball poorly but made all the putts I should have made which I don't say very often. Shot 88 the next day with 1 quad and 3 doubles🤬

Last time I played I had three double bogeys, four bogeys, one par and one birdie for a score of 46. My driving was a little inconsistent, my short game was initially inconsistent but got better as the round progressed, and my putting was very good. I even got my first birdie of the year on a par 3. I know I have it in me to play better, but inconsistent play is at present my Achilles' heel. Still, I was satisfied with my round, and hopefully my game will get a little more consistent.

I played a one day tournament last weekend and shot 98!! Highest score going back prior to 2004 that I can find. Started double, bogey, triple, 11 consecutive bogeys and finished triple, par, triple, triple, bogey. Par 71 course.

Keep it up this means you are improving towards a single digit. 👍🏼
