Khaki trousers, in and of themselves are not a problem. Saddle shoes are a bit harder for me to defend...

 

But, it isn't necessarily the items themselves, but rather their ubiquity over the course of a decade or so. Seemed like it was the only acceptable golfing uniform for quite a while.

 

A bit of variety was desperately needed.
