Vice Pro Zero

Anybody got a chance to play them yet? Mine arrived today. Sound test with an iron passes. Hit a few putts on a mat and it felt good as well. I guess real test will be on the course. Unfortunately I don't have any Pro balls to do direct comparison. This year I ended up buying bunch of Pro Soft because of my bum elbow and slower swing speeds.

I bought some, will put them up against the Pro and Pro Plus and report back eventually...

The speculation that these are produced by Feng Tay and not Foremost in interesting.  Tony Covey spelled out much of it in a MGS forum post.  Also said he wouldn't be shocked to find it similar to the Spading Tour balls.  Not that there is anything wrong with that.  I scooped up a bunch of the Spalding Tour X when Walmart was clearing them out for a low as $6/dozen.

No clue on the patent for the dimples but it does loo like most of the balls with 344 dimples on the conforming list are from Srixon.  344 dimples are also found on the RZN balls (Feng Tay), Spalding Tour and Tour X (I assume Feng Tay but have no proof), a "Majesty" ball (made in Vietnam so also could be Feng Tay), and the Vice Pro Zero.

2 rounds with this ball and I find it slightly longer then the Chrome Soft I was playing with a noticeably higher ball flight.  It's spins enough around the greens and I found the feel pleasing off wedges and putter.  My one concern with the ball is how well it holds up in the wind, I was definitely seeing it not hold its line as much as I'm accustomed to with other balls I play - could be tied to the higher launch as well.

How is the durability? Thats the ONLY thing I do not like about Vice balls.

When was the last time you tried one? The new ones (at least Pro Plus) are the most durable ball I've ever played. I've gotten 4-5 rounds out of the ones I've played so far

I ordered and played them this season. The red Por Plus. That cover scuffs like shredded cheese off of one wedge shot.

Odd, that's completely different than my experience. I've got brand new wedges and irons with as sharp of grooves as you can have and have zero issues whatsoever.

This ball pictured has been played for 5 full rounds and the two scuffs you can see are all that appeared, in the last round

Some people still seem to have durability issues but I can't figure out the difference. Maybe has something to do with the red cover?

Played a round with these yesterday. Felt firm off the putter which I like. Felt in great off irons and woods, not hard as a rock but not soft. Maybe a little less firm than the vice tours. Decent green side spin off some short wedge chip shots.

I hit one cart path and one tree with two separate balls (wish I had something to blame other than a squirley driver but it was all my fault). Would not recommend. The cover did not hold up very well.

Played the tours previously and they seem to hold up a bit better on cart paths and trees. But the pro zeros I think if you hear it hit the path or a tree the ball could potentially be done (ymmv I could just be super bad. Nobody will debate that)

I did an 18-hole comparison between the Vice Tour and the Pro Zero today. The course wasn't busy, so I played 2 balls - alternating which ball I hit off the tee on each hole. Not terribly scientific, but here're the results. I'm a 10.4-16.1 handicapper this year and drive the ball about 200 yds on average.

Score

  Zero 84

  Tour 85

Fairways hit

  Zero 12/13

  Tour 9/13

Average difference in driving distance

  Tour +3.5 yds

Greens in regulation

  Zero 4

  Tour 6

Total putts

  Zero 32

  Tour 34

Putts/GIR

  Zero 2.3

  Tour 2.0

Up & down for par (inside 100 yds)

 Zero 5/13

  Tour 1/10

All-in-all, a pretty mixed result. Based on my sample size of 1, the Zero has a very slight edge overall, but the Tour was longer.

I will be honest. I dont understand this balls existence..  Is it basically Vice's version of an AVX? I low compression tour'ish ball?

I think more like the Tour Speed: different urethane process, lower price, closer but still not even pretending to be a tour level ball.  Maybe TM Tour Response as well but I don't know if that is TPU or cast.

Whoa Nelly!  The Tour Speed is a great ball for those of us who are not on the Tour.  You should give it a try...unless, of course, you're on the Tour, in which case you'd probably be better off with a "tour level" ball like the ProV.

I hear you.  I was speaking mainly to the marketing and price point of the balls in that segment.  I've heard tons of good reviews on the Tour Speed and very little negative.  I have no doubt that it's great for a ton of people.  I don't think there any doubt that tour players don't play balls in that segment though, especially when you get to that level of low compression.

The Tour Response is a CTU (Cast Thermoset Urethane) ball.

Nope. That’s not low. Still confused by its existence. Haha..
