That's basically what I play and I don't have any complaints.

D (7.5d)

2 Hybrid (17d)

3 Hybrid (21d)

4-pw (24d - 48d)

Wedges 50 + 56

I've got one more iron in my 24-48 range than you (just the way that iron set is gapped) so I finish out @ 14 clubs.  I don't feel short-changed on anything.  I've got a new 3 wood ordered, but that was on a whim + honestly probably won't be bagged on either of my home courses.

Unless there's a gap between your 9 and the 48* wedge, probably not.

Few golfers actually need 14 clubs. How many times have you heard stories about people playing in short-bag tournaments and scoring better than usual?

I play 12 now. I've had 13 and 14. 12 is not an issue, current 12 club set-up has no gapping issues for any course I currently play.

No, you don't. Maybe if you had a gap to fill with a 4 iron or some need to add a 3w.

My loft progression is identical to you at the top, and I also go straight from 3i to 5. For multiple seasons I've never felt like I had a yardage gap that wasn't covered, playing courses anywhere between 6000 and 7000 yards.

I can't hit a fairway wood or hybrid to save my life, so I simply carry a driver, 3-PW, GW, SW, LW, and putter.

I do want to add a 17° UDI or something because I want something that gets me 260-275 off the tee.

Sorry, but I will just never understand not carrying 14.  Even if it's just a very specific specialty club, what's the harm in having it there for the once in a while you need it?  I'm still hoping the powers that be eventually say we can have 15 (but not exactly holding my breath).

OP, only you know what works for your game and the courses you play.

Reminds me of a Dave Pelz quote from back in the day: The non-tour player could carry 14 clubs plus 150+ clubs (one for each yardage inside 150) and it wouldn't statistically change his score. That is so true. I regularly play 9 holes in the evenings on weekends with with 5 clubs (it varies from D,6,9,55,P or maybe 1i,5,8,50,P) and will hang around par (tees around 3,300). I have about 18 clubs (3 different D's,3w,5w,7w,1i,5-9,P,46,50,55,60,P)that I pick and choose from when I play in tournaments. Most times, I pick 13 and never worry about it.

No need to understand and no harm in carrying 14 just because you can. I prefer to walk and I carry. I had no issue carrying and playing 14 clubs. Did I score any better with 14 than I now do with 12? Nope, so why bother.

I use all 14 of my clubs, some more than others, all depends on the course I am playing.  But if you can handle every thing you face without issue, using less than 14 clubs, I wouldn't fix what isn't broken.   A 1 index friend carries 12 clubs; D, 1 iron, 3-PW, SW and P, and he scores without problems.

Some people lack creatively and skill, so can't comfortably get around a course using 14, they want  more clubs, and maybe carry a few extra...go figure.

I carry 12.  Had four wedges and too many decisions so went back to three (Pw-52-58).   Top end is driver, 17.5, 20.5 seven wood then 5 iron.   Rarely have an issue but once in a while (once every 3-4 rounds) I’ll have a shot that is a little far for my 5 iron and really have to choke down or feather a seven wood.   Going to adjust the 5 or maybe look at a hybrid there but still probably stick with 12.

The AP1 9 iron is 38° so that seems like a big gap to the 48° wedge. I'd probably want something in the 42°-44° range.

I have a 12 club setup that I saw a lot of guys here on Golfwrx using - D-4w-7w-25d to 49d-60d. I don't have more wedges because I am trying to develop more feel on my half swings like the pros, which I will do more frequently with only a 49d and a 60d. Having more wedges won't make me better in the long run which is my goal.

I don’t see any reason to carry more clubs just for the sake of carrying 14 like most people do.

For me personally, I look at my bag objectively and try to find a setup that works best for my own individual game. For me, that’s 13 clubs right now, but would have no problem dropping to 11-12 clubs if I wanted to.

My setup is: D (9.5*), 3W (15*), 3H (19*), 4-PW, GW (52*), LW (58*)

Have carried 14 and 15 clubs in the past, but just seemed excessive to me personally.

Ok now you've clarified that you play 5-PW that makes more sense. My setup is similar to yours. My extra club is a 23° hybrid in addition to the 20° hybrid. Fills a distance gap but is also a great club for recovery shots from the rough or when I need the higher launch to hit recovery shots over trees from wayward drives. It is a club I really value having in the bag. If the lie is less than perfect I just have slightly more confidence in it than the 20°. And it definitely fills the distance gap perfectly between the 20° hybrid and my 24° 5 iron.

43* PW wasnt listed

Only you really know whether you need another club or not.

Is there a yardage gap or club that you need for a specific shot type?

With a 43* PW your 5-iron probably has a 4-iron loft of 21 or 22 degrees?

Your setup of 13 clubs looks fine to me, and I don’t understand why people feel pressure to play 14, but ultimately you have to do what you feel is best for your game.
