Golf Pride Tour Velvet Plus 4 grip?

Recommended Posts

Anyone using this grip?  I've been building up the lower half of my grip for some time and if I can get then pre-built that way life would be easier.  How do they hold up for tackiness and wear?  I see the regular tour velvet is very popular on tour and this is similar except for the buildup. I wonder how many pros may have switched to the Plus 4 as they tend to build up their grips on the lower half. Golf Pride says the formula has been changed slightly (hopefully an improvement).  I prefer a full rubber style versus the multi-compound models.  I've used the tried and true Tour Wrap 2g for quite some time and it works well except you have to constantly wipe the dust off or the tack goes away. Plus they're VERY slick when wet.  Thanks..

  • cristphoto changed the title to Golf Pride Tour Velvet Plus 4 grip?

I have them on my 2 iron, 3 wood and driver since they released them.  I like them and installed them for that very reason, so I don't have to keep using tape to build them up. They stay nice and tacky.

On my irons I'm currently playing the new WINN Dri-tac 2.0 midsize and I built up the lower grip to match the +4 grips. Reason being is I have a wrist injury that has me needing the MMT shafts with these grips.  So far so good.

I also couldn't care two 💩's what the tour pro's play.

I use the tour velvet plus 4s on all my clubs and enjoy them. They feel slightly thicker than the mcc plus 4, which I also like, but I usually end up building up slightly under those. I’m in a very dry climate so I couldn’t speak to wet weather play. They have a good amount of grip to me, and firmer than the mcc which might be what makes it feel thicker.

Played them last year and they were nice at first but once the heat and humidity picked up they got slick and didn’t last long.

Switched to the Royal Link Cords and haven’t looked back.

I have them on my irons and hybrids, woods are still the MCC +4’s.  I like them a lot, I have about 100 rounds on them the last 2 years, condition is still good and after a cleaning with soap and water they still have a ton of tackiness.  I like the MCCs a lot but I think they tend to wear out too fast for a $12 grip, these were the perfect solution.

I play them on all my clubs.  Was an MCC +4 guy before, I just prefer the softer feel of the Tour Velvets.

Yes I use the Tour Velvet Plus 4 midsize on all my clubs.  Saves me the hassle of having to instruct to build up only the bottom hand.  Love them.

I just tried a tour velvet plus 4 on a 6 iron.   I'm surprised so many people think it just feels like a tour velvet with a built up area for the bottom hand.  To me it feels thicker/spongier all over and I feel significantly more isolated from the club in both hands.  I do like the larger size for my bottom hand but at least with the one I have experimented on it seems to come at the expense these other changes in characteristics which I didn't really want.  I was hoping it would feel exactly the same as the regular tour velvet in my top hand and was disappointed it did not.  I play with no glove by the way.  They are definitely really comfortable as a result of this thicker squishier feel.  Maybe something is wrong with mine since no one else seems to say this but it was a brand new grip installed at PGA Superstore.  I guess I should try a regular tour velvet with just extra tape at the bottom and see if I like that better but I just wonder if the guys at PGA superstore can be trusted to do that well.  They have so many different people working there and some of them don't seem to deal with much beyond the basics.  If there are others that had a similar reaction to these grips as I did please chime in because right now I"m wondering if I have to try another one with maybe a different installer or something.

I play them but install them with air and stretch them a little bit. This takes out some of the squishiness and feel slightly smaller. Keeps tacky and very durable.

Thanks for reviving this thread.  I tried them for several months last year but switched back to the standard Tour Velvet (with two full length tape wraps) for the reasons you cited.  Despite the buildup, they felt a bit different (lack of grip stability during the swing) so something else seems to be different other than the lower build-up.
