Call it how I see it: CHILDISH!

Recommended Posts

What in the world is up with these tour guys breaking clubs? When did this become an every week occurrence? It’s so childish to me and I can’t stand it. Rory did it a few months back, Si Woo did it at the Masters, Van Rooyen at the PGA, Cameron Smith, Hovland, and now Kizzire’s temper tantrum this week? That’s just to name a few. It’s more than just basketball players and football players that have become soft and childish. Spoiled with little sense of real life struggles. Golf, more so than any other sport, is supposed to be a “gentleman’s game” and it’s tough for me to see guys who play it for a living act like this with no decency or respect for the game.

Sorry, it has gotten out of control and I needed to vent about it. Someone tell me I’m not crazy.

These guys change equipment so often (and not by choice) that it's easy to start blaming the club.

Has anyone ever spent $500+ on a 3 wood only to find out you can't keep it on the planet? That's a horrible feeling. Now imagine that shot costing you $50,000.

Yeah, I'd have to say it's pretty weak to break clubs - on the tour or otherwise. You are pretty much spitting in the eye of everyone who has "earned" their golf clubs the hard way.

I used to play with a guy down in Georgia who had a brand new set of Burner 2.0 irons when I first met him. After a year, he had the 5, 6, 8, and PW left. Dumbass!

Out of control?  The tens of thousands of shots hit on Tours every season and so few incidents?

LOL, this affects you how?

Seriously ? "Spitting in everyone's eye" ?

I can honestly say that I personally have NEVER felt that way watching anybody break a club.

Why should I care what others do with their clubs or any other property of their own ? So long as they're not endangering anybody else by doing so,,,,,,,,,,,,

Seriously?! Taking exception with an opinion that differs from yours?!

You must never have been on the internet before. Why should you care so much about how someone else feels about an utterly meaningless argument? I am outraged.

😀

In what other respected profession is it acceptable to break stuff out of anger? It’s just funny watching adults act like babies because they don’t know how to handle a failure as small as missing a putt?

You mentioned other sports so I suppose one can assume you're talking about sports in general and not just golf ? Whistle.gif

As for missing a putt being small, didn't that take Kizzire out of a shot (albeit a long one) at a $10 mil prize next week ? Or am I misremembering ?

And while it sometimes IS funny watching it, I wonder how many adults people have never broken something in anger,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Hmmmm,,,,,,,,,,,

I think professional golf is at an interesting crossroads... I think there is some larger market appeal with more "drama" on the course at the cost of alienating it's current base... Personally, I lump breaking clubs in with the fans shouting on the course... all of it needs to be punished.

Break a club on the course: get fined.

Yell during a round: Get tossed from the venue.

I have no problems with golfers getting frustrated, but that doesn't justify temper tantrums...

I'd think tennis is the only sport where they will call a penalty on "equipment abuse." Maybe cricket? Can't say I've ever seen a cricket player smash a bat or anything.

I think fines need to be implemented. And yeah, the fans are a whole different story. Did you hear the one jackwagon yell yesterday right as Bryson started his swing? Unbelievable. And I’m not even a Bryson fan.

You haven't watched much football the last 100+ years - they break people, lol.

And it happened Friday - where was all that fire three days ago?

I think Tour players have some responsibility for setting the example for players of all levels. Any kind of behavior definitely flows from the telecasts to your local course. That goes for slow play, tossing/breaking clubs, removing gloves to putt, etc.

If it's the incident that I'm thinking of, Kizzire broke his driver.  Although he didn't pull a Stenson and snap it over his knee, he put it over his shoulders and flexed the shaft a little too much.  Saw it on PGA Tour Live.   His incident in particular I could understand, because the hole it occurred on and the one before he couldn't keep his driver on the course.  Was astonishing to watch to be honest, a PGA level tour pro hitting not just one, but probably 4 shots on a mishit/shank trajectory.....like 45+ degrees off line from his target

Putting with a glove on should absolutely be a penalty

The driver thing happened two events ago at the Northern Trust.

This past week at the BMW he broke his putter over his knee walking off the green, and then went on to try and tear his hat in half before ultimately throwing it in a trash can.
