I don’t really have an issue with them throwing or breaking clubs unless someone gets hurt.  Van Royen at Northern Trust came pretty close to crossing the line.

Any Yankee fan should remember Paul O'Neil completely destroying many a water cooler in the dugout.  It was always fun to watch.

Have a feeling I'm going to be in the minority here, but I take absolutely zero issue with any athlete letting some frustration out.  Kizzire's job is to play golf, nothing more, nothing less.  When was the last time any of us dumped a drive in the drink and it cost us six figures?  He can break whatever he wants.  If you're one of those people who are so worried about the kids, teach them, don't leave it up to a pro to have that kind of influence.

The driver thing happened two events ago at the Northern Trust.

This past week at the BMW he broke his putter over his knee walking off the green, and then went on to try and tear his hat in half before ultimately throwing it in a trash can.

Sorry, I clearly have no concept of time 😆😆

Sounds like ole' Kizzare needs a break from golf

What in the world is up with these tour guys breaking clubs? When did this become an every week occurrence? It’s so childish to me and I can’t stand it. Rory did it a few months back, Si Woo did it at the Masters, Van Rooyen at the PGA, Cameron Smith, Hovland, and now Kizzire’s temper tantrum this week? That’s just to name a few. It’s more than just basketball players and football players that have become soft and childish. Spoiled with little sense of real life struggles. Golf, more so than any other sport, is supposed to be a “gentleman’s game” and it’s tough for me to see guys who play it for a living act like this with no decency or respect for the game.

Sorry, it has gotten out of control and I needed to vent about it. Someone tell me I’m not crazy.

Agree.  It is completely childish and uncalled for.  I don't think it happens as frequently as you are claiming but it shouldn't happen at all.  It's ridiculous people don't have more controi over their actions while upset.

Passion is a real thing.

Meltdowns on the course have been happening since the game was born and will continue as long as the people who play this game still GAS.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Really?  First you don't know they actually get fined but call for fines, now you know what the amounts are?

It's not a big problem, they end up looking stupid after the fact, pay $5,000 or more (not pennies) and life goes on.

You think throwing a tantrum is ok, and I don’t. It’s cool but I’m not sure we would make good playing partners.

Getting angry is part of golf. Handling it poorly is also part of golf. It is a sport where sometimes we make ourselves look stupid (in many ways), and the pros are no different from all of us.

I watched a 73 year old, 23 handicap, take off his hat and slam himself in the head 3 times, then slap his leg, then throw his putter to his cart just yesterday. Some people are just born to lose their mind on the golf course. This guy is miserable to play with and many people have walked off the course when paired with him. He completely sucks at golf and yet wakes up every day thinking he is okay at it, and is surprised and pissed when he still sucks.

I have another friend who breaks at least 1 club per year. Summer past, he broke the wind screen out of a power cart on a botched club throw. Had to pay $250 to the club house. He is not an A-hole though and always feels like a heel within like 2 minutes of any outburst, apologizes to all, buys the drinks, etc. Love playing with him, he is just born to lose his mind on the golf course. I always get a kick out of his antics, but they may be shocking to others. I start salivating for the free beer.

The outburst is the outburst, it is how you respond after that matters to me.

See, that's part of the problem - you're about the capital letter rant (isn't the first post a tantrum, lol) and not really knowing much about the context (and it took you three whole days to get upset about it, lol).

I never said anything resembling it's okay to throw a tantrum.

This isn't a new thing, been happening for years.  What's changed is the level of coverage, there's camera's everywhere and golf is covered like never before.  These guys are expected to be perfect every second of the event.  Personally I have no issues with the frustration.  We have all had moments in our life where we lost our cool, everybody's version of it looks slightly different, no point in acting like we're above what they're doing.

Golf is a Gentleman's game like Penthouse is the Gentleman's punani magazine.  Someone once called them both that and so it kind of stuck but it does not make it so. Especially if you're a female, regarding both.

I could not care less if someone breaks a club, especially a pro. Ditka once went to the ER with his putter shaft still in his neck.

My son broke his 8 iron shaft a few years ago. For that one, I was not too happy, because I was the one replacing it. I even told my buddy who was the 19 time club champ, thinking he'd give my son some sound advice on club breaking. Instead, to my astonishment, he said "the boy has passion, it's OK"   Made me re-think my way of looking at it.

The term “Golf is a gentleman’s game” wasn’t just something someone said. It came from a time when the word “gentleman” had an entirely different meaning.  It basically meant people of a certain class weren’t allowed to play.  For a better understanding, read Great Expectations.

Agree - Today's youth lacks self-control, and some have poor attitudes, not at all good.

Back in my youth, football players and pro athletes had class and self-control, they were proud to be college athletes and professionals.  Today many athletes are out-of-control, and pros are classless jerks and thugs with money.

The surprising thing to me is how the PGA just turns a blind eye when most (if not all?) state PGA player associations rules for tournaments or conduct already include prohibitions for throwing or breaking clubs or other such conduct.

IMO... when it comes to some things, they, the USGA and PGA, shouldn't give a dang what fans want to see. At some point it has to be more about what's good for the game of golf.. not simply good for generating revenue.

On the other hand....

"I am Kizzire Sergio Cameron Montoya. You have insulted me and my golf game. Prepare to Die!"

100% - I coached hockey for 15 years, I stopped because of the parents.  The kids 15 years back were no different than the kids I coached in my last season.  What changed was the parents and the ridiculous amount of pressure they put on a lot of them.

As fans, we can't demand and expect more access and more coverage, but then get mad when that coverage shows us what everyday real life is for them.  Every single one of us in this thread, if we had camera's televising us at work on a daily basis, I'm almost certain there would be some rough moments.  Frustrations is part of every job/career and all humans handle it different..   Stop acting like we're above any of it.

It doesn't turn a blind eye, it just doesn't share with us how much players get fined.

I can honestly say that I personally have NEVER felt that way watching anybody break a club.

Why should I care what others do with their clubs or any other property of their own ? So long as they're not endangering anybody else by doing so,,,,,,,,,,,,

If it's a match, the bonus is they're down a club.  Break 'em all, I say!

Then how do you know they are being fined at all? Just curious 🙂

One example.  https://www.golfdigest.com/story/rory-mcilroy-says-the-pga-tour-reduced-his-fine-by-dollar20000-after-he-apologized-for-his-3-iron-toss

Euro Tour usually a little more "public" about its penalties for players.  PGA Tour keeps it on the down low, but occasionally players will talk about it.

Here's a more general article I found, probably more out there, but just went this far looking for something off the cuff. https://www.golfdigest.com/story/undercover-tour-pro-what-its-like-getting-fined-by-the-pga-tour

Sure I know that fines happen sometimes... I really didn't mean to insinuate that they turn a blind eye in 100% of the cases so my bad on that,  but I can't  wonder how many of the actual occurrences of breaking or throwing a club there are each year and what percentage of those actually receive a fine or some other disciplinary action.

I don’t know.  I agree it’s bad form.  But if you’ve never been mad enough to break an inanimate object.  You don’t care enough about what you’re doing.    When the clubs start talking to you , taunting you, you’ll want to kill them.

Lol. True.  You don’t want cameras following me when im alone in the shop.  A tool that does not do its job , is subject to die by ritual that is kept secret to this day.  But a hint , it involves a 40 ton hydraulic press. And we won’t even get into Chinese reproduction parts that don’t fit.  They’d make the Pope cuss.
