Demo i59 Review

Recommended Posts

First off, the review is based on my opinion and others will have differing views.  Home course had the i59 7 iron only to demo.  I tried it with various shafts until I found one that felt right with that particular clubhead which was the Modus 105s.  Distance is about average as one would expect for a club like this.  It isn't really a player's distance iron but also is a bit longer than most player's clubs non-distance oriented.  Feel was excellent and forgiveness was similar to the i210 series.  It shined in distance control and dispersion.  If I were buying irons, I would definitely have the i59 on my short list in a fitting session.  For someone with a decent swing, and I would risk saying up to a 10 to 12 handicap, might want these over the replacement coming for the i210.  With similar forgiveness and top notch performance, it should work for a lot of players.  Just the cost bogey being the issue.  Wish I could have gotten on the launch monitor with it to get better data.

I also tested it against the Titleist T100 with the same Modus 105 shaft.  For me, the T100 was somewhat longer and higher ball flight.  Forgiveness was about same as the i59.  Turf interaction about the same with both.  Cosmetically, the i59 looks are hard to beat.  New T100 looks great but the i59 is a beauty queen.  Going to be a tough choice to make once the new Mizuno MP irons come out soon too.  A lot of good iron choices but they also all have quite the price tag these days.

Thanks for the review.

I'll be testing the t100, i59 and mp22 mmc myself. I play mp20 mmc now and really like them. However they are getting beat up a bit.

I have a demo event next week and although I am not booked in with Ping I know the rep well enough and he will be very happy to get them into my hands to try. He knows I like new shiny things and will smell a potential sale!

I have never owned a set of Ping irons before but the Blueprints almost had me!

I hit T100, T100s and i59 yesterday and thought the T100/s were definitely less forgiving than the i59.  Maybe it was just my swing but I kept going back and forth and couldn’t get a good swing on the Titleist irons like I could the Ping.

Its sounds almost like the i59s are a sexier, advanced version of the P770. Player-like but with a lot of extra under the hood.

I just demoed the i59, sorry this will be a flop IMHO. I’ve always loved Pings and still play the woods and wedges. I’m betting this club flops, impossible to hit, not distance monsters, and obviously priced to the roof. I was absolutely lined up to order a set as price is not really a concern, the club just was a dud. One sexy club on looks though. I swear my Hogan blades are easier to hit. I lusted  for these badly, but quickly decided the i210 is superior for me.

I hit the i59’s with the stock px LS 6.0 today and was surprised how good they felt with that shaft. Spin was a lot higher than I anticipated as well. Well struck shots were in the high 6000’s with a couple over 7000rpm. Launch and carry distances were really good. I also tried the t-100’s and found they were a bit more demanding and distances were a little shorter. If I was buying right now the i59’s would be my choice

Do they really feel like the i500?  I read someone say that after demoing... if that were even close to being true, at this price point, I'd for sure pass.  Also, would love to know what the 4i looks like compared to the i210 4i...  Going for an iron fitting tomorrow and want to try a few different models out.

I hit the demo 7i today, with that shaft as well, and was very surprised how much I liked it.  Tried several other shafts in it, that I've used in the past, and none performed as well for me.  I liked it enough, that I placed an order for a set.  Fortunately I have quite a bit of pro shop credit this year, because the price tag is staggering.

That’s awesome. Hit them well

Some good reviews here.  Similar experience to what I had in terms of forgiveness.  Seems the i59 performance is going to be determined for many by finding the proper shaft.  Price-wise, they are expensive to be sure.  Certainly can't knock the i59 on performance.  As many have said, the forgiveness right there with i210.  I would think if the price point weren't so high Ping would see a ton of orders.  1700+ for 7 irons is a bit steep.

$2350 up here...  $2655 tax in.  Everything in my current sig was bought and rebuilt for under $2k...
