Is it bad that I need a beer or two per round to calm my nerves?

Not at all. 2 at 7am is WAY better.  More hours left for the next 15 beers

Nerves show that you care about what you’re doing. The key to channeling those nerves into better performance is compartmentalizing your thoughts into objective observations, rather than negative critical responses that heighten your anxiety.  This process takes mental practice. And preparation. Lots of it.  I train musicians and see this all the time, especially around auditions.  Beer won’t fix it in the long run. Beta blockers only if you have debilitating anxiety preventing you from performing.

 

And don’t lessen your expectations.  Manage your response to failing to meet your expectations.
