What is makes your bag an unorthodox/quirky set-up?

My bag really isn't unorthodox or quirky other than maybe I only have 10 clubs in my bag, 11 if you count my putter. It's a mixed bag, I'm not loyal to a brand, I just like to play what works

Maybe it's because I've been playing more courses but I've gotten a ton of comments on my irons lately. I think there are a few companies doing the chameleon finish now. They look cool when they are clean. 🤣

Actually insane. It's not wearing off like the Copper RF's. My pitching wedge has been through hell and this is about 2 dozen rounds.

<edit> I didn't pick the finish and had no idea what these irons would even look like when I ordered them. The owner told me on Facebook that they had 15 lefty sets coming, so I gave them my money.

$425 for a set of forged heads seemed like a good deal. After playing these since June (about 40 rounds?) I'd say they were a fantastic deal.

The stock shafts were junk, but with proper shaft and grip, they are awesome.

Not sure, it's a metal treatment of  some sort. Bombtech calls it "volcano torched". But it doesn't come off.

I wouldn't say mine is quirky other than the fact that I have a strange attachment to my fairway woods and putter.

My bag was always a bit top heavy, as I carried a 3+, 5, and 9 wood.  It's not that I didn't get along with longer irons, I just tried a 9w one day and realize how easy it was to hit, from just about any lie.  Super tight dried out summer fairways, first cut, even some longer rough, and it worked great on several Par 3 holes at my local courses.  I've also found the 5w to be an awesome club too.

So I thought I would turn in some rewards points, take advantage a couple coupons, and picked up a barely used Mavrik Max 7 wood and 11 wood.  In fact, I think the 11w is brand new and it still had the plastic on the head and the grip looks brand new.

Both in "ladies" shafts (stock UST Helium 5FI) so they are 1" shorter, which is also how I have the 5w and 9w too.  I've found the softer flex really works with my smooth tempo, and I'm rarely trying to crush any of these woods, as I have nice gapping between them.

So as of this morning I pulled the 5, 6, and 7-irons out of my bag, and played with what looks like a crazy amount of fairway woods.

So my current bag is Driver, 3+, 5, 7, 9, 11 fairways, 8, 9, P, G irons, 56* and 60* wedge and putter.  I might put the 7i back in, depending on how versatile the 11w proves to be.  People have commented how one-dimensional fairways are, but I've found I can still fade/draw these Mavriks, and even do low punchy shots when needed.

Playing all graphite shafts, three 8 irons (29* T400, 33* T300, 38* AP2), followed by 24* and 27* hybrids, a 7 wood and a mini driver all with JumboMax XL grips.  I'm trying to make the bag as easy as possible to play and it has resulted in some relatively unique selections which I would partially attribute to my index going from 20 to 13 this year.

That's really cool 😀 can see the logic fully. Why haven't I thought of 8 different lifted very easy to hit 8 irons.....it's a brilliant idea

Here’s a weird thing about my bag: After a long time this year trying to work out the long end, I’ve settled on carrying two 5 woods. Or at least, they’re both labeled 5 woods and both come at stock 17.5 degree lofts.

The first is a Ping G425 at 42.5 inches with a Ventus Red in it, turned down to 16.5, which makes it more like a 4 wood.

Then I have the Cobra Radspeed Tour 5W at 41.75 inches with an RDX Blue, turned up to 19 degrees. With the rails and the very small head, this is almost like a cross between a fairway wood and a hybrid.

I settled on this combo after trying set-ups with a 7 wood, because I really wanted a 4 hybrid in the bag and found my 7 wood and 4 hybrid went basically the same distance. I need more loft than a 3 wood, so a 5 wood made perfect sense. I fell in love with two of them, and had two spots in the bag to fill. The gapping and different use cases make them a really good fit.

Driver: Ping G430 LST 9* | Fujikura Ventus TR Blue 6X

3W: Ping G430 Max @14* | Fujikura Speeder NX Blue 70X

7W: Ping G430 Max @20* | Graphite Design Tour AD DI 8X (or sometimes G430 3H with Tour 2.0 Chrome 85S)

4 Utility: Ping iCrossover @23.5* | Graphite Design Tour AD DI 95X (or sometimes G430 5H at 25* with Tour 2.0 Chrome 85S)

Irons: Ping i230 5-UW | Fujikura AXIOM 105X

Wedges: Callaway Jaws Raw 54/12W@55/13W, 60/12X | Nippon Modus 125 Wedge

Putter: Bettinardi 2024 BB1 Wide

Haha im working on the most quirky bag setup ever, mixing brands, years (like 2021 and 2007)… but regards to that spot in the bag, ive been carrying a strong 3 wood, 18 degree driving iron, 18 degree hybrid, 23 degree hybrid, then 5 iron. The two 18 degree clubs seem redundant but i rarely use all 14 clubs in a round so i can usually pull one out I anticipate not using, or if for fun just go with 15. The reason i like those two is the driving iron is just money off the tee on tight holes but stinks when hitting into greens, long par 3s or par 5 approaches, thats when ill use the 18 hybrid.

Lot's of brands in my bag which makes mine kinda odd.

Ping G410 Driver

Taylormade 5w and 2i UDI

Miura CB57's (4i-9i)

Ping Glide 2.0 46 degree

Titleist 50 degree

Cleveland 54 ZipCore

Taylormade 58

Mizuno putter

Driver has a Jumbomax grip, irons have Pure DTX (best rain grip ever), wedge have Z-cord midsize because I don't use a glove on some irons shots and love the feel.

I've certainly dabbled with just about the oddest possible setups, but right now my bag is somewhat normal.  I'd say the two weirdest things about my bag are the 48" driver, the inclusion of either a 2nd driver or a mini driver, and then my yardage gaps, which are not consistent by generally accepted norms.

So, for now, I’ve settled in on 2 drivers (1 of which is 48”) and then all irons.  No fairways or hybrids.

To most golfers, especially non-WRX’ers, this would seem absurd, but it’s honestly not even in my top 5 weirdest bag setups, IMHO 😂🤣😂!

Love the bag! I play Mavrik Max 5, 7 and 11 woods and love them. I refer the y 11-wood as the pitching wedge of woods! It is great from any lie and I can hit high and low shots with it.

Not super quirky but I’m the only person in my circle of golf friends to set up my bag this way…no fairway woods. Driver, 17* and 20* hybrids then 4 iron on down. Just can’t hit them off the deck.

Ping G425 12* set at the little - with a tour 2.0 65 stiff shaft

Callaway Steelhead III 18* 5W

Callaway Big Bertha Warbird 21* 7W

Ping G30 4-W, U, and S irons

Ping Tour 60* wedge
