Show off your most "well loved" clubs

Recommended Posts

I have a tendency to collect old golf clubs as I'm sure many of you do here as well.  I also tend to show off my more pristine looking sets.  I'm a sucker for unused or near mint looking vintage clubs.  I love those barn finds but every once in awhile I come across a well used set.  Playing these I don't really worry too much about throwing the around in my Jones bag.  I guess I do hit a limit when a club is too used up to become a part of my collection.  These FC4000s are just at that line but I'm enjoying them right now.

What about you?

What's going on with the neck of your Ginty?

The whipping was unraveling, so I wrapped some electrical tape to keep it in place. A few days ago I removed the tape and epoxied the whipping end in place so it won't unravel. The neck looks a little thick but it's a trick of the camera. It doesn't look like that for real.

The whipping is there to support the structure of the neck. If the winding of the whipping is not tight then support will be compromised, epoxying loose whipping is only cosmetic. I advise re-whipping.

Great idea for a thread. I have some new to me FC4000 that are becoming well loved. Also, my hickory clubs, especially my Niblick.

I have posted these before, but these Ram Tour Grinds certainly qualify as "well loved"! 783842121_RamTourGrind.JPG.5855a0376fa7e4ab809a181535340a2b.JPGIMGP0179.JPG.5f3d026d4cae49e47442f8697442cd9e.JPG

I adored these irons and whilst playing them never imagined ever being unfaithful to them. Sadly I wore them out and they had to be retired. I should take a picture of the faces, or what is left of them! The wear on the toes give a good idea.

Promiscuity has subsequently set in and I switch irons regularly, but the Tour Grinds will remain in my affections as my first true love.

The back of the head look great tho!  Would love to see the faces.

It's on pretty tight. I applied just a dab of epoxy to keep it from unraveling. I've looked around the internet for a spool of whipping, and all I could find was $20 for a spool, which I thought was a bit steep. I've already hit my Ginty in game conditions, and it looks like it's holding up all right.

I will try and dig them out and take a picture. But don't expect any micro dot wear patterns, I am a mean Scot who likes to make things last so I use all the face and wear them out evenly! That's my excuse and I am sticking to it!😁

I think I'd count my set of Titleist Tour Models as "well loved." I've had them since 1989 or 90 (bought used), and played them for several years, getting down to single figures with them, before injury and other circumstances took me away from golf. I still have them back in the UK, and play them whenever I go back. I might take them back to Japan with me in the future, though. The rounded shape of the short irons has particularly affected what I look for in a set of irons. Pictured here is the 5i. Access to the set is a little problematic right now....

I'll also include this Ping BeCu L-wedge, which was given to me back in 1989 by a golf-mad friend of my Dad. Didn't like it at the time because of the offset, but rediscovered it years later and ended up taking it back to Japan with me. I don't play it that often, but it's always fun to take out and see what I can do with it.

Sweet blades!

I’m actually looking at adding a classic set of Wilson’s….would you have any input on the difference between your FG’s and the other Staff blades such as  the models with Red Dot shaft bore through on the soles?

Never played any other than the 17s. Sorry I can’t provide any more info. The 17s are soft and sweet!

RobotDoctor, that M43 is beautiful. The M43/M33 is one of the most under-appreciated clubs Mac ever made. I got my M33 as a free throw in to a deal because the guy didn't think it was worth saving. I little bit of TLC in the refinish and it is the most solid driver I've ever hit. I'll let everyone else chase M85s, I'm on the look out for another original.

This M43T is definitely one of my very favorites, one of the best woods I have in my collection.  It is super solid and really feels great.  I took it out for a spin last week in Loveland at The Olde Course with a sleeve of Titleist 384 Tour 100 Balatas.  Bobby Grace told be a couple of months ago he could have sold this one to Greg Norman back in the 80s for $$$$.  😀

Driver:  TaylorMade 300 Mini 11.5° (10.2°), Fujikura Ventus Blue 5S Velocore

3W:  TaylorMade M4 15°, Graphite Design Tour AD DI 7S

Hybrid:  TaylorMade Sim2 2 Iron Hybrid 17°, Mitsubishi Tensai AV Raw Blue 80 stiff

Irons:  Mizuno Pro 223 4-PW, Nippon Modus3 Tour 120 stiff

GW / SW: Mizuno T-22, 52° (bent to 50°)/ 56° (bent to 54°), True Temper S400

LW:  Scratch Golf 1018 forged 58° DS, Nippon Modus3 Tour 120 stiff

Putter:  Byron Morgan Epic Day custom, Salty MidPlus cork grip

Grips:  BestGrips Augusta Microperf leather slip on

Thanks…. I have a set of FG’s on the way. 2 thru Pw stiff flex. When I was starting out playing in the mid eighties my golfing mentor had Staff blades and absolutely hammered everything with them. He was the first to tell me “if you don’t want to screw around and be a sloppy golfer, learn to hit these”. Looking forward to playing with them.
