What’s your swing speed, handicap and what ball are you playing?

Age 71, swing speed 90, handicap 12.

After seeing a Rick Shiels video on the Callaway Supersoft Max I ordered a dozen. I figured for $25 why not. My usual ball is Titleist Pro V, which I never buy, because I find them by the gross in the gorse off to the right of our 5th hole that we call 'slicer's heaven'. From the first swing I liked the feel, liked the sound, liked the higher trajectory, and they're more accurate. On the green the feel and tracking is very good. The distance is the same, but the accuracy and higher trajectory is still enough for me to want to use them exclusively. Now I can tell my daughter what she can send me for Christmas that I'll actually use.

Just got on a Trackman yesterday.  Last time I was measured I was swinging 104-105.  Looks like I've picked up a little bit of speed. 😀

Driver SS: 108

Current HCP: 0.8

Ball: ProV1x

I love a firm ball when putting and I enjoy the extra launch and spin on the ProV1x.  I'm not the highest launch or spin guy around, so the extra stopping power is appreciated.

Guilty.  poor green reading, tough lie bad chipping. inconsistent swings into water or OB.

Yep. I play guys a third my age in my league who outdrive me by 60 yards or more and I still beat them with my short game. Never forget what Sam Snead said about driving versus putting. 😉

Sadly, it's true. I'm too adventurous to care about scoring. I did manage a long drive and a birdie last week though !

I always tell myself that i'll play smart, I won't use driver on every hole and that i'll concentrate on the chipping.....bogey every hole. 🤣

Recently, finding my way better with some grip changes to avoid the usual slice, which is where i'm losing a lot fo strokes.

Anyway, back on topic:

Driver Swing Speed: 117 (~280 carry)

Handicap: 15-18 (regularly shooting mid to upper 90's, PB of 83 with regular play)

Preferred ball: Bridgestone E12 Soft, Callway supersoft (discontinued).

I prefer better feeling on the ball, as opposed to what suits the swing speed. It's mostly marketting. Recently, more and more balls are described as for 105+ or 90+ SS. My ball flight is typically quite high, so i'm recently trying out Titlesit AVX. Even the balls stated as "soft" "softest" "softer", "High" "Mid High" "higher". They're all practically the same.

Previously experimented with a lot of balls, in the end, my distances are always the same, spin is not so noticeable at the greens i currently play at and it eventually comes down to the feeling for me. (Of course, it's also driven by technique). Previously in Europe, I would have a lot of spin from the soft balls. I'm OK with a rock from the driver if the chipping an putting will be softer, however, i'm not really getting that from a lot of the premium balls.

I'd play that hole with my usual 220-225 yard drive, fade my second shot around the dogleg to 100 yards or less, wedge to the green, with any luck one putt but definitely get down with two putts. Younger guys I play with who can hit 280 yard drives are just as likely to put it in the woods, chip it out if they can find it, still take two more shots to get to the green because they can't fade an iron, and since three putts aren't unusual for them I take the hole.

The 4th hole at my home course is laid out just like that, so it's a scenario that I've encountered a few hundred times. If I have a particularly good drive and keep it to the right I can occasionally reach or at least get close in two. That's complicated by bunkers that cross the fairway 80 yards out from the green, which usually force a layup.

While I've never had it measured, I'm guessing my swing speed is somewhere under 100MPH. I don't have an official handicap, but I'd say somewhere between 15 and 20. I play the Wilson Duo Soft, simply because I play with vintage gear - persimmon woods, blade irons, old school putter - and the Duo Soft plays well with my gear. Feels nice and soft, and doesn't damage the woods.

49 years advanced.

Wilson Staff DuoSoft Plus.

Average drive 225 sometimes 240.

Swing speed is somewhere in the 90's I would imagine.

I don't know what my handicap would be but it would be in the high end since I'm happy when I break 100. Lowest score is 95. Average score is about 105. Sometimes I'll have a really bad day and don't even keep score.

I turn 48 next week.  Driver swing speed is 100 +/- and average carry distance is 240-245.  Handicap is down to 4.0. I had been fooling around with some softer balls because I prefer that feel, but I’ve really been enjoying the Wilson Triad.

My swing speed hovers around 120mph with the big stick.

I play between a .5 and 2 handicap.

And I play the ChromeSoft.

Not supposed to be the ball that works for my swing speed according to all the data - but I know I am not leaving any distance on the table.  Tried every other ball.  Just as long as anything else.

3.0 Handicap with 125-130 swing speed. Playing the Pro V1 for now. Personally, I have a hard time seeing a difference between the ProV1 and ProV1X until I'm on the green. Tried the ProV1X-Left Dash for a little while but the lack of spin was a turn off for me. If you're looking for more distance, it would be worth a shot. Probably gained 10 yards off the tee, but with my game, accuracy is more important than distance.

I am a 12 HCP and recently had a fitting where I was swinging about 105 with driver and about 80 with a 7i. After heavy experimentation and tinkering, I now play the TaylorMade TP5 ball.

I had been a ProV1 loyalist for years, but I always wanted a ball that did all the same things as ProV1 (feel, flight, etc.) but had more spin around the greens. I tried the new version of TP5 that came out in 2021 and have been a convert since. I especially love the control on my short game shots and that the ball performs similar or better than ProV1 off the driver and my irons. I have tried just about every other golf ball looking for this performance and always returned to ProV1, but I am sticking with TP5 for good.
