Trip For A Group Of 30-40 Guys

Recommended Posts

I play in an annual golf event every late summer/early fall that typically includes 30 to 40 players. We are based in N. California.  Traditionally this is a 3/4 day event where we like to stay in cabins/cottages/hotel located on or near the course. A short flight or medium/long drive is not out of the question. In the past We have done places such as Palm Desert in So Cal, Running-Y in Oregon, and Bailey Creek.  These events usually end up costing around $500 per player.  Looking for new ideas.  With Southwest offering relatively cheap prices up and down the West Coast, I think we would consider anything from Washington down to San Diego.  Any suggestions are welcome.

These two suggestions are so close you've probably already considered them:

1) Tahoe: I couldn't make the trip, but I had some friends go out to the Tahoe and Reno areas a few years ago. They had a pretty good time out there from what I heard. I've stayed in some cabins out there in the winter and they didn't cost too much

2) Napa: Plenty of golf out there. Pretty scenic. Not sure about housing though, the hotels are definitely pricey

Truckee comes to mind right away:  Old Greenwood, Coyote, and Gray's Crossing.

My top pick would be go to Bend and get in Pronghorn, Crosswater, and others.

While not in your initial parameters:  Phoenix has a really good set up for big groups from courses close together, plus nightlife and places to stay.  Plus from NCal, JSX is a great options for flights to make life easier.

Again not quite in your parameters:  But St George Utah is a good option.

We used to take a trip to Tucson. It was a few years ago, but we stayed in 2 and 3br condos in Oro Valley. It ended up being around $100 each per day. Weather was perfect and you can play a bunch of different courses. We are actually talking about going again.

Bend, OR comes to mind with numerous options for golf and lodging, plus breweries and such for post golf

If you were to go to Washington... Both of these could be quite the effort with 30-40 guys though.

- Suncadia has 2 public courses + 1 private. They have both hotel type lodging but vacation homes that you can sleep big numbers in. 90 min drive from Seattle

- Gamble Sands - 1 full 18 and a 14 hole par 3 course, 18 hole putting course right outside of the rooms. Lodging on site. About 4hr drive from Seattle.

- There are other options in the greater Seattle/Tacoma area but not really what I would want to do for a group of 30-40 from a logistics perspective

Per @puttnforthe8 - I had some buddies go to St George, Utah last year and had a blast. I couldn't make the trip but it is now on my list of places to go play

As a couple other members mentioned, Bend OR is a distinct winner.

Multiple world class yet affordable golf courses, great weather, unique scenery, excellent local beer, and plenty of places to host a group of your size
