Starting to nail the essence of the Hogan release

Looking good but there’s still a kind of stop and stabilise with the left arm. With Hogan you couldn’t tell there was a strike or impact interval. There was no hint of hitting past the left arm.

Ben Hogan's right arm was bent, pulling(bicep contracted) at impact.

Most other golfers straighten the right arm to impact. (Pushers).. tricep contracted.

 

Sure appears your straightening right arm to impact. Nice swing, just not Hogan.

Awesome PGA Tour caliber swing sir. You've got his upper and lower body work down to almost perfection. Now the only thing left is to figure out how he managed to sling the club past his hands without it rolling over like most tour pros does.

 

 

Here's a comparison of your hands arms unit direction+clubface rotation with where Hogan is at this point. 

Red arrow = the direction the hands arms unit is traveling

Pink arrow = the way the hands moved through the hitting area+clubface angle passed impact

 

Nevertheless... wow! Respect and you sir have the goods!

Making progress on Hogan release variant.  Still need to clean up tranny and still a bit throw-y at the bottom but shaft plane-ing and face rotation are getting there.

 

(PS: No blocks, toe hits or deep divots allowed for this testing--those are cheats to make the video look prettier because they create artificially passive face rotation after impact.)

Variant 7 is the first stage of full Hogan adaptation.

V7 1c--its getting real now.

Variant 7 1d gives us a slight push draw with a slightly leftward shallow divot--good box to check.

Tried to move into Variant 9 this morning--went pear shaped. Variant 9 will heretofore never be spoken of again. Moving on to Variant 10.

Thanks Nitefisher, the variants are just my way of categorizing the progress in segments that are actually different enough to warrant labeling as such. But I'm sure some variants don't look that different on video.

 

The stuff to keep working on is:

1. Grip is still too strong in right hand

2. Right arm too tucked in at takeaway

3. Too much body help in initial draw back

4. Arms too close to each other in backswing

5. Not enough pelvic tilt in backswing

6 Not enough lateral pelvic shift in down swing and not early enough

7 Rotation starts too early and stalls too early (like everyone else in the world)

8 Not enough wrist c0ck in backswing

9 Elbow move needs work

10. Torso too hunchy throughout

11. Arms get sucked in too close to torso on post impact, crowded--problem starts earlier, post impact arm swing is a reflection of bad sequencing.

 

I'm actually fairly happy with the progress and hitting the ball well but there is a long way to go. here is latest (variant 14):

v21 Plus: best yet syncro between the arms, shaft and pivot from p6 to p8.

Pretty good action. I’ve naturally got a hogan release where the hands hide and clubface stays out vs Dtl release where hands flip over. Funny that I gravitate towards Tiger/Scott type swings when I my release is opposite.

 

How did you go about working on your swing, take any lessons?
