WINNERS: Fujikura Ventus Blue and Red TX Flex Shafts! Check Inside!

Recommended Posts

Huge thank you to Fujikura Golf.  The Ventus Blue 6X was on my shopping list, so winning a Blue 6TX was just awesome.  Fujikura even managed to mill the GolfWRX logo onto it!

FedEx played games shipping, but I now have the shaft and the tip is installed!  I'll be giving it a go tomorrow and on a Myrtle Beach trip next week.  Impressions, launch monitor results, and pictures to follow.

Wanted to throw an update out.  I haven’t been able to get to a launch monitor, but I played two rounds and had some range time.

Previous to winning this contest I went to a Taylormade fitting and really liked the Sim 2 with a Ventus Black 6X.  The Ventus Blue 6X launched low and didn’t spin enough for me in this setup.  I was planning on ordering Sim 2 and Ventus 6X Black before I won this contest.  My swing definitely agrees with the Ventus line for what it’s worth.  The feel towards impact is just so good.

Fast forward and I’ve loaded the Ventus Blue 6TX straight into my Ping G410 Plus 10.5deg(flat minus position).  I did not tip it and it is playing at 45in.

Notes on my swing:

Swing speed on course averages around 110mph.  On a monitor I can push to 118mph.  I carry 265 yards on average.  I have a moderate tempo, I’m fairly shallow, and prefer to hit a high draw when the hole allows.  I play to a 6 +/-handicap right now.  Driving is a strong part of my game.

My miss is low left and off the toe.  I work the ball both ways off the tee when I’m comfortable in my setup.   Previous shaft was a Tensi Orange stiff - not the pro.  I was fitted into it when my swing speed was a bit lower ~105mph.  I was having a hard time with that shaft this season due to my increase in speed.  I couldn’t locate the head well enough and it wanted to go left.  It was spinny if I wasn’t careful as well.  I compensated by setting the head in the flat minus position and putting the weight on the toe.  This made it manageable but it was still spinning over 3k rpm regularly and my launch angle was pretty unpredictable.  I was not trying to work this setup at all anymore.  Just a swing and a prayer.

So I threw the new shaft in and hit the course.  Without any range time and keeping the head setup the same, I was now hitting a 10 yard fade when trying to play a high straight draw.  The shaft immediately felt more substantial and I didn’t have the flight issues I saw with the Blue 6X in the Sim 2 driver.  That could be a change in my swing though, as I’ve been focused lately on staying back and hitting the high ball.  I could feel the head location much better. After a few holes I moved the weight to the neutral setting and that gave me a straight or slight high draw.  Misses are less frequent and definitely less severe.  I can now also confidently hit a fade when needed.  I can swing through without fear of a big left miss.

Terrific results so far.  I don’t think my carry has changed substantially, but I’ll need to hit the monitor to get some apples to apples comparisons.  I was absolutely ready to throw the towel in on the driver, and now I couldn’t be happier.

I’ll be in a Myrtle Beach vacation this week playing 7 rounds in four days.  Hopefully the honeymoon will continue.

Interesting that you found the blue 6x to spin and launch lower than the black. Not that it cant happen. Just interesting. Good luck and continued success with the new shaft!

I agree Quigley.  In fairness I only hit 3 or 4 drives with the blue 6x.  But, my Ping setup feels very different to me than the Sim 2 with the blue 6x.  I'm back from my golf marathon.  The driver performed great all weekend.  I'll be hitting the indoor this week and will be able to compare the shafts on a launch monitor.  I'm interested to see what the change in numbers is.

Figured I'd chime in after a session on a launch monitor.  I hit ten shots with the Ventus Blue 6TX, then switched back to my Tensei CK Orange 60 S - the shaft fitted to me a year and a half ago for my Ping G410 plus 10.5.  Head was set at -1 flat, with the weight in the neutral position.  I hit ten with the Tensei and then switched back to the Ventus, because I was seeing my swing speed increase.  This is common as I get into a groove and warm up.  Swing speed started around 110 mph and ended somewhere around 115 mph.  Ball speed went from mid 150s to mid 160s.

I can tell you based on feel and confidence of head location, as soon as I switched to the Tensei I wanted the Ventus back.  There really is something to these Ventus VeloCore shafts.  I can feel the head so much better through contact.  My dispersion with the Ventus was a general straight to push fade.  This is my preferred shape, as my miss is generally left.  I can work it into a draw, but in this head setup it takes serious effort.  Dispersion with the Tensei was more both ways, as I've seen in the past.  On days I'm not swinging my best, I have a hard time keep the ball from hooking with this shaft.

Peak numbers were pretty close.  Carry was probably within 5 yards for both.  I'd wager I hit the Ventus a bit further.  My longest drive of 298 yards was with the Ventus.  292 yards for the Tensei.  Basically a good swing with either yielded a good drive.  The Tensei flies a bit higher depending on strike location 110 feet vs 120 feet.  Spin was around 2200 for both.  I'd planned on averaging out the numbers and posting the actual results, but the program I was using didn't save the driver titles I inputted so I cant say for certain which driver is associated with each drive.

I can say with confidence that the Ventus is a big improvement.  It's been a game changer for me.  Consistency, getting rid of the lefts, and confidence over the ball.  I'm pleased.

I'm still in love with my Blue 6TX.  It has totally transformed my G410 plus.  I have the confidence to work the ball, and my strike consistency is so much higher.  Highly recommend.
