Hovland ditch the i59s?

I'm pretty sure Hovland plays a combo of 210's and 59's.

This is the correct answer.

Based off the pics in this thread it looks like he's gone back to the i210s

https://forums.golfwrx.com/topic/1832163-2021-tour-championship-tuesday/

This one pic shows the set up he played with the i59s and iBlades with the new i210's next to his bag.

Thanks for the pics GolfWRX.  That answered my question.

Hovland loves to tinker and has a mixed bag at times. I've seen him go i210/i59 and iblade/i59 as you mentioned as well.

He'll throw a Titleist or TM UDI in from time to time along with TM FW's.

Yeah, he actually discusses it a little in this video.

Mentioned trying to go with i210 long irons when he put the i59s in the bag but there was too much of a physical difference so went back to his old iBlades

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Es9sIPlt1qM

But even Pings site shows him back to a full bag of i210s.  Just an interesting move coupled with the mixed reviews of the i59s.

Check out Rick Shiels review of them? Thought interesting. I sure wish they would have gone cast replacement and return to “S”. Not a lot of players on their site listed as playing which I was surprised at. Curious to see what Ping players start next season with.

Eastlake is such a different animal for everyone with the Bermuda right now. This is one of the few tournaments played this time of year in the south with the grass at its peak. I would bet it has more to do with the sole, bounce and turf interaction he needs. I play on it year round and this time of year 1 inch rough can do some evil things. Heck, I watched a plus HC I my group get murdered from the fairway yesterday and dump one in a bunker because he was into the grain.

He's 1st in greens & like dead last in strokes gained.....said his proximity is the case - just leaving really long putts

For the week? How can he be last in SG and t5? According to the leaderboard he is +4.1 Sg approach for the week.

I came across this as well when looking in the European Players WITB for the Ryder Cup. It was the first thing that caught my eye because it was a huge deal when he bagged i59's. He's back to the i210's.

If Ping made these for the general public, they could not keep i210’s on the shelves

What is special about his Ping i210's? Ping doesn't have "Tour Issue" equipment, they just build to specs and customize in their WRX department as far as I was aware.

Extreme Bounce grind on i210- which Ping will not do for general public

Edit: I have a long standing relationship with my rep & even he couldn't pull off the Hov grind for me

What I meant is that the i210’s are extremely popular as they are, but if you look close at Hovland’s, his appear to have slightly thinner soles, less offset

They removed 4* of bounce...the picture from Ryder Cup appears to be a completely NEW i210 set up ...as the # on the iron is present[unless Ping did iron # & hydrapearl after the grind]

Which leads to believe these were his original gamers @Ryder Cup - and not the Hov grind i210

Agreed I think those reduced bounce ones were for links turf. I think he was playing a standard set at Ryder Cup. The  i59 seem to be absolute spin monsters.

No Bueno for me. It still very much confuses me why guys like Hov don't play Blueprints rather than having the ever living hell grinded out of a set of these.

I think it was said in some of the interviews, a bunch of folks just didn’t like the lack of forgiveness on slight offcenter strikes
