Hovland ditch the i59s?

I agree... besides blueprints all their irons seem on the big side.

As a 4 handicap I find the blueprint, iblade and i59 all too small. The i210 is fine size wise, it's certainly plenty compact enough and good enough for the best in the world, I spin them too much though.

Pretty much all equipment is going to play pretty well now... its a matter of size feel look. Can it be some of these guys prefer ping? Probably. Im sure they have options to be staffed by any company just not paided highly enough on their minds sometimes. Me personally id only want callaway or mizuno or a mix of the two. I do think the bprints and the i59 look great though.

According to Ping's own website, there is 4 full i59 sets in use at the PGA tour out of 28 players. Not great..

I am going to agree with you and really it goes for players versus all brands. For example look at DJ he has played TM since college. A lot of it I say too and this goes for all brands too--- Say you get a player that is used to the feel of a certain brand and combined with a fitter and tuner that knows the product and the player well then there you go. Good example is Sergio and TM for some reason Callaway equipment or the fitter did not mesh and he went back TM. Not saying Callaway makes bad equipment but it did not mesh for Sergio. Same for Lydia Ko and PXG coming from Callaway and no I am not running down PXG either----- Now in another spectrum Jon Rahm switched from TM to Cally and has done needless to say quite well

PING hate is pretty silly for many reasons, but chief among them is how big the G400 wood line was. How many "MAX" drivers were there before and after the G400 MAX and its incredible popularity? PING moved the needle big time and everyone followed.

I will say there are quite a few guys on tour and in the real world playing Ping 400 and 425 drivers-- I am as brand agnostic as one can get and I alway say play what works for you brand name or company marketing or politics be dammed. Myself lately I have inadvertantly had to switch equipment from the signature set due to age and injury. LOL I may be accused of being a TM fanboy now with 9 out of 12 clubs being TM. But say today if I find for the sake of argument here a set of Ping irons I hit better pain free then they are in the bag. May be Cally or PXG never know

Perfectly said. Theres a perfect fit for everyone. Stay in what feels right. Even the best in the world go back to what they play best with. Tons of evidence of this being true.

  • 2 weeks later...

Pros didn't play i500 and I've loved them.  So perhaps the pros NOT using i59 means I should....

Now where is my CC?

I am waiting for 510/525, whatever the heck they are calling them.  I feel like a blended set might be special.  Don't understand the increase in price though, guess we'll see what happens with all the new releases...will they all go up 30% or more?  Or is aluminum jus that expensive?  😆
