Anyone Have An Idea of What TM’s Driver Plans Are for 2022?

I was lucky enough to have it my hands this week! It is called the Stealth plus and the Stealth. The plus has an adjustable loft and a sliding weight left to right ( not front to rear). The head is matt black with a gloss rim around the edge. The face is Red and Not I repeat Not made of metal.  It’s still a 460cc but 15g lighter, still has a twist face and a foam injection port on the toe of the club.

I hit the Stealth Plus and loved it!!!

That’s been true at least since the G400 generation. It’s about small tweaks now and finding new materials that enable you to have similar ball speed all over the face

And some heads are more appealing to ones eye. I prefer the rounded look to the more triangular look.

I fail to understand why company’s have not released non conforming heads? More than 80% of the game is supported by weekend golfers. Why keep releasing a conforming head that most never gets the performance that the head could produce? This would be the perfect time to jump ahead, a composite face would allow the company to thin the face to a much hotter cor and not lose durability.

Would you play a non conforming head with your regular weekend group?

I hit the new Stealth driver from TM a few days ago. It will have a red carbon face. Yes carbon. Not titanium. It is really strange looking actually. The concept is the face weight was cut in half to 20 grams therefore they can disperse more weight throughout the club head. I wasn’t the biggest fan of it.

is there a link to those reviews?

They’re easily findable on YouTube. I use type “Mizuno pro 223 irons review” in the search box and a bunch of videos from Asia come up in the search result

I’m not sure anybody in a TM 2022 driver topic cares that there are Mizuno Pro reviews done by Asian reviewers on YT. We want TM Stealth reviews and pics.

I’m glad to hear TM is finally ditching the black/white color combo on the head.

15g lighter huh? So TM produced a driver that will come in around C5 swingweight?

Not buying the premise...

Weight distribution seems to be the operative word here. The only benefit I can see to carbon is that it is lighter so you can move weight away from the face.  The only question is how much benefit are you getting from the weight redistribution.  They claimed the Sim2 had a similar advantage over the Sim1, because the carbon sole enabled you to redistribute weight.

I'm skeptical.  Is this really a big barrier they are overcoming the saved face weight to move around?  There are 2 major equipment manufacturers (Titleist and Ping) who haven't even adopted carbon at all in their clubs, and nobody could argue they make a clearly inferior product.  Think about how hampered they are on the weight distribution front.

I would imagine they were referring to a 15G saving from the face alone and the 15G is used elsewhere in the head.

So I've been fortunate to have visited the testing/assembly areas of a few OEMs over the last 15 years or so. I'm absolutely no expert on R&D or product testing but I've seen enough to be a little dangerous. So I'm pretty confident in saying that whatever a random poster on here think might be an issue - IE OMG carbon fiber is going to completely fail and all these heads will have to be returned - I am pretty sure that TM probably first thought of that 12-18 months ago and has probably been aggressively testing with in hand prototypes for months.

I remember specifically walking through Fujikura and being just blown away by some of the stuff that they were doing. I thought I knew a lot about shaft designs and I left there feeling like I knew nothing. It was incredible.

I've caved in/had fail two TM woods over the years, one driver and one 3W. Not only was TM amazingly good about replacing them but the fact is that thats manufacturing, you build a million of something and some will fail.

So. TM has probably thought long and hard about a carbon face driver and if it turns out thats what it is, I'm pretty confident its been R&D'd/tested to limits that I will come nowhere near testing.

Right and its such a small part of the market that is made up of guys who swing it 120+ and run into these failures, the vast majority of the general customers will likely never hit the ball hard enough to even achieve those failures(me). So if they gotta warranty some heads for that small small segment of their market, that certainly isn't gonna break the bank for them.

For those of you lucky enough to test the new driver, did TM go into any detail about why they chose a carbon face or what it does better than previous models?

Presumably the driver will perform. No doubting that. I'm curious to know what type of feedback we get in terms of sound and feel--more or less feel, if any.

If tour pros still holding onto the SIM, what makes y’all so eager to jump into the newest? Lol be buying redundant clubs after posting how good XYZ was.
Im starting to think a lot of brands are approaching a wall with drivers and it’s starting to show.

I just saw a different post where it kinda changed my perspective.
finding a driver that can really compliment YOUR swing.
I feel the ones that stay with the “older” driver have found that and the ones that still keep buying are trying to get to that space.
but yeah your definitely on the nail with that.

Yeah the problem is that people have been saying this about approaching a wall for years. Every single release will have some version of this comment (especially TM threads) and yet with every single release we'll see some form of incremental improvement. Sometimes its a pretty lateral move that doesn't register much, other times its a noticeable jump. The SIM was one of those jumps, as was the M1/M2 when they debuted, but the G400 lineup for PING, TS lineup for Titleist etc etc, hence some people sticking with them through multiple cycles. Every year the manufacturers promise us all fillet mignon, and the fact that it usually isn't has people jump to the opposite extreme and say the ridiculous things like "its just a new paintjob" or "drivers have been maxed out since 2006" etc etc as though we are getting nothing. In reality it ranges from ground beef to a decent ribeye and the key is ignoring the marketing and the hype and letting time reveal where things shake out.
