What wedge drove you away from Vokey?

I've got a small collection of Vokeys, particularly liking the soft feel of the SM4 sand and lob (with spares) that apparently also have fans in this thread.

I'm trying out though Glide 3.0 54 (bent to 53) and 58. With the lighter heads and that I've got Recoil 780 in them, I just  added about 10g of lead tape to get them ~D4 from my calcs. The Vokeys come in at the D5 range with Steelfiber i80 shafts.

I only have the Glides as I bought them with G425 irons, and received all just over a month ago. Irons also  were with Recoil. The irons were just too light to be consistent (and the large sole freaked me out after playing Miuras for years ) and I sold them yesterday.  I did however like the Glide wedges even at the light weight (still not sure about the wide sole on firm bunkers though). But to play them with my Miuras that  have higher swingweights  and to blend with  my Vokey gap wedge I figure I need them heavier SW-hence the lead tape.

It was a while ago, but the Ping Tour-S. I had always liked the shape and profile of ping wedges but they just felt too hard in 17-4. The Tour-S being 8620 was night and day difference in feel. In fact I still use those wedges. I’m trying to replace with some more current, but always tend to go back.

Mizuno T20. After you play a forged wedge you can't go back to 8620. The 8620 stuff feels hard as a rock to me now.

I went away from Vokeys when the other manufacturers passed them on innovation and tech. Love my Hi Toes, but would easily game Cleveland’s or Callys or other some of the other brands. I feel like Vokeys are not innovative at all.

Mizuno T20 was awesome, as earlier posters stated.

I thought it was me, after the SM4 series, trying Vokey after Vokey after Vokey in all shapes and sizes and bounces and shafts...

Went back to Cleveland in 2019 and haven't looked back, so much better for my game, truly incredible turf performance and accuracy.

Goodby Vokey (even though I continue to play Titleist irons)

I've played Vokey's several different times over the years, latest being SM7's.

I've never been in love with any of them.

Each time I've dumped them its been for Callaway since Roger Cleveland started doing their wedges, starting with the X Forged line.

Played Mack Daddy and MD3's before SM7 ( Don't know why I changed TBH)

Replaced the SM7's with PM Grind 2.0 which I love.

Will be looking at the new Cally's when it's time, but the 58*PM spatula will be hard to replace, I think.

For me, it was Scratch a few years back. Was amazing to hit a club that actually had the correct sole grind and not just whatever you grabbed off the rack. Hoarded about 75 to make sure they would last a while. I'll still get wedges to try but haven't found anything close yet.

My only regret is that I have but one like to give for your dedication to the GolfWRX ideal.

I switched from Hogan to Vokey to Mizuno to Hogan.

When it was time to retire my Sure Out Sand Iron, or whatever it was called, I bought the Vokey’s because of that clicky, hard feel. I preferred it hat over the softer feeling Cleveland 900’s at the time. I only switched to Mizuno because it was time for new wedges and I just purchased Mizuno irons. The Mizunos were MP T Series Raw Haze and they felt exactly like Vokey’s. They played the exact same in my hands.

I am struggling to play like I used to, so I’m switching to something that’s still classic, but feels a little softer and has just a touch more forgiveness. Easily could have chosen any of Cleveland’s new wedges, but the new Ben Hogan Equalizer II Texas Grind caught my eye (54* in standard grind, 58* TX grind). Partially nostalgia. They’re buttery, yet solid, like old Hogan wedges. And I could get a lighter shaft in them.

So in short. Ben Hogans. Easier to hit, softer feel, new smart grind, and I love looking at them.

I basically did the same hoarding thing you did except mine are Cleveland 588s and 900s--- Will let you in on a secret though I did do a Scratch JLM/EGG grind on my 588 60*--- LOL was rumminging through my stuff the other night and I had put up a brand new 588 a while back. Fourteens. Was a lifer with Cleveland and had the opportunity to hit a few shots with older Fourteen wedges. Felt so soft, love the feel, face looked amazing. Wish I would have gotten raw versions. Loved the look of the RTG's when I had them.

If Mizuno could match Vokey's swing weight and length progression, I would buy a set right now. I  just don't trust the custom order process enough to match it.

That's funny because swing weight is another reason I dumped Vokey. I play +1" and 3* upright. Made Vokey's super heavy. Thanks to Mizuno B weight heads for us tall golfers my wedge swing weights are back to planet earth. My swing weights with both wedges and irons have always had much tighter tolerances with Mizuno as well. I've found both Titleist and TaylorMade to be a total crap shoot. Sometimes I get what I ask for, other times I get E2-E3. I've completely sworn them off at this point. Too much of a headache and too much work to get it back to where I want/need it to be.
