Let's try this again... Best Stand Bag /w least club grabbing/tangling?

Recommended Posts

So every now and then I will make this post.. hoping that someone has found the "magic" stand bag.

I am looking for a stand bag that has the LEAST amount of club grabbing/tangling when you insert/pull out a club.

My requirements are:

1) NO 14 way dividers. 4/5/6 way preferred.

2) Plain colors. No gaudy/busy color schemes (plain black is my color of choice).

Thanks.

In a 4/5/6 bag, isn't most of the "tangle" going to come from the grips rubbing against each other in a confined space?  Most stand bags are around the same size, and the construction of the bag really doesn't have much to do with it.

The only non-14-way bag I've had little tangle with was an Ogio bag with their wood-e system.  Current version of that has 4 individual slots for woods down the sides, then 4 larger sections to divide up your irons.  You end up with only 2-3 irons per section, which reduces tangle.  But you'd still have those 4 individual slots, which are apparently a no-go for you.

You want less tangle, you need more space -- get the biggest stand bag you can find.  Most manufacturers make a "tour" stand bag or a "hybrid" bag that are as big as a cart bag but with a stand.

I have the Ogio Woode 8 Hybrid bag.  There's no issues with clubs tangling.  The one I got was black with some red accents.

I do have some complaints with the bag.

- The hard top cover of the slots does rub against the clubs.  It hasn't damaged my clubs, but it has worn out the stickers (that I was too lazy to take off) on some of my irons.

- While tangling isn't an issue, the grips of the golf clubs can snag on the top cover.  This happens a lot with my putter (Super Stroke Pistol GTR grip).  This issue alone is probably why OP will hate this bag.

- The straps are nice and plush, but have no grip.  They keep sliding off my shoulders.  I don't carry often, so it's not a big deal for me.  Most of the time, I'm pushing a cart.  Also I wish they had a quick release on the straps.

Overall, it's still a quality bag and good enough for me that I'm not going to buy another bag for a while, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I have been going through bags like a mutha lately....  best one I have found was the Vessel Lite, but the bottom of that bag is soft so it's a no go on a push cart.  Only reason I had to get rid of it.

The Sun Mountain 3.5 is good but the color schemes can be a little much at times... club tangle was almost non existent.

I just picked up a Players 4 from 2nd Swing so I will see how that is when it arrives.  I like a smaller bag so I can deal with a little tangle knowing its a possibility, but as a Hoofer owner as well, that bag has just for too much grab for what it is.  Nevermind the Hoofer Lite..

The Vessel Lite was the perfect size, great overall functionality if you walk or ride, I can't say enough good about that bag, I just wish it had a solid bottom plate.

SM bags (2.5, 3.5, 4.5) are going to be the absolutely clear cut winner here.  Their 4 way top, full length dividers, and non-pivoting base makes them the clear leader in what you're looking for.  Their branding is about as minimal as it gets for a "big box" brand.  They can be had without SM logos as well.  I have a 2.5+ I use when walking and there is about as little tangle as possible  in a 4 way top.  Other manufacturers have almost all went to the "Hoofer-like" base of the whole (or majority) of the base pivoting which will inevitably cause some bunching.

The Vessel Players 3 has very robust full length dividers in their 6 way top and and ample space keeps club tangle about as minimal as you can in a pivoting base design.  I am very pleased with my Player 3 with 6 way top.  It does everything well.

The only way to have no tangle is to look for bags where the leg mechanism is outside the bag. All pings, titleist, tm and most stand bags have them inside the bag. When you place the mechanism inside the bag, it "pinches" the bottom of the bag when you stand the bag by itself, threby squeezing the bottom and thats how you bunch up the golf grips.

Having said that, sun mountain is currently the most trusted for zero tangles because the stand mechanism is placed outside thebag. Absolute zero tangles. Even with midsized grips.

Would love a Vessel... BUT I read a review that stated the bag is designed for walking and if you use it on a cart, it will damage the material. User stated it happened after the first round used on a cart, and had to fight for months with Vessel to return the bag. I don't want a $400 bag with that poor durability, especially since I ride 95% if the time

Right, that's what I mean.  It wont work on a pushcart, but will if you carry or ride.  It's so close to being a great design if not for that.  And thats only with the Lite.  The other models have hard plastic bottoms so they should be more durable....

Vessels work just fine on carts.  My Player 3 fits perfectly on my Clicgear and if I ride in a cart I use the cart strap sleeve they provided me when I purchased it.  Zero issues.

I have a Hoofer and have zero issues with tangle. With that being said I used a bag for the last 25 years that didn’t have any dividers at all so I guess it is all relative.

I’ll echo the 3.5. Since I don’t carry anymore, always a push cart, and never practice to where I’d want a stand bag, I always use a 14-way SM Sync hybrid bag.

But my previous bag was the SM3.5. If I ever get the itch to carry again, I’ll use that or a 2.5.

The woode system on the Ogio’s are very good also.

As other posters have said, keeping the leg mechanism outside is what keeps bunching to a minimum. And the SM3.5 works decently on a Clicgear.

I have a SM H2NO which I believe is a waterproof rebranded 3.5.  Best tangle (or lack there of) bag I’ve had in some time.

I have a heather gray Linksouldier bag from Linksoul. It’s a small carry bag. I am consistently (and very pleasantly) surprised at how well it handles 14 clubs. I don’t have zero tangle, but I have very little.

x2...love my linksouldier bag
