Terrible picks. How do you leave Na and Kiz off the team? They at least bring some fire. Berger and Scheffler are so boring. Stricker really dropped the ball on this one. It'll be over by Saturday afternoon.

Are you looking for a win here, or are you looking to be entertained? He went with Berger and Scheffler for their length off the tee. I might have gone with Na, but you can’t say English wasn’t a good pick. Can’t understand your argument. If you want drama, head over to Patrick Reeds Twitter retweets. Don’t forget that mess in Paris.

Kiz and Na would have been terrible picks. You could argue for NA because he is hot but KIZ has played horrible all year except lucking into a win and he even says he can barely compete on the long tracks anymore.

I’m on the fence re Reed. He cares about the event which shows both in his individual play and attitude about the event but yeah he likes to tout his singles record. America’s weakness is not in singles.

Re: Na and Simpson - Na has been the hottest American player outside of Cantlay and has overcome a lot of adversity over his career - dude seems like a fighter. Believe he has good match play record as well. Simpson won a major 9 years ago and while he’s been good overall this year I’d rather take the hot player who appears to be entering his prime. If this was 2020 Webb for sure.

Distance also appears to be a bit overstated here. The US has used that reason a lot. What has that gotten us?

I’d like to add that, just as I had posted in the other related thread, I think having 6 picks is ridiculous. Go back to none. Maybe 1-2 max. It’s a waste of time and I  suspect that it doesn’t help that half the team is unknown 2-3 weeks prior.

but I do love the distraction from work b****ing about it. 🤣

It’s time for new measures.

If you want to be on the RC team, you put up some money. Like 1MM if you’re a big earner and less is you’re not.

You lose a match, you lose money. You win a match, you make money.

You lose all your matches, you lost 1MM

I guarantee you’ll see a serious effort ; )

Sticker is supposed to pick who he wants to pick.  I believe that is why he has six picks.

With those six picks comes a higher degree of analysis and accountability.  You may be fine with those picks, others not so much.  Everyone has an opinion.  It makes things a bit more interesting. Or we could all get in line and be good soldiers:

South Korea's Air Force Chief Resigns Over Woman's Death | Military.com

All of the top 10 in the point standings are on the team.  To be fair, there really was only two "captains picks".....there was no way you're gonna tell a guy in the top 10 on the RC points list that he wouldn't be on the team.  That's never happened in the past, I don't think.

They extended it to 6 captains picks due to uncertainty in the schedule, but in the end the Ryder Cup team was decided on performance...like it always has.  There really wasn't any pick made that was out from left field....even Scheffler was 14th on the points list.  In fact, the only difference between deciding the team solely based on points as opposed to the 6/6 option this year was Scheffler instead of Reed.

Was Na not chosen because he doesn’t hit the long ball?

As a Canadian with Euro parents I cheer for the Euro’s but I do have some US players I like so it makes for 3 days of great golf entertainment

The funny thing is, every RC, you read about how strong the US team is on paper, based on individual rankings worldwide …. Newsflash, that means sweet FA in a team event

you need guys with grind, putting savants, short game wizards, guys that are $$$$ under pressure, guys that want to win for their country, and THIS IS BIG ….. win for their friends/peers

^^^^^^^^.  I wonder if there’s a forum overseas on the Euro picks. I’ll bet there’s a completely different feeling.

Webb was 13th on the points list.  He wouldn't have made the team on points.  Reed would have if they had just used the top 12 in points.  That was my point.

I think Sheffler was a great pick.  He's been consistent all year long and I think he will surprise people in how well he does.  I think it will be refreshing not to have all of the drama that comes with Reed seeing that there is already a high drama content between the Brooks and Bryson.

Everyone likes Stricker, how can you not, but geez, looks like he’s gone for a quiet week with no fire. Which is gonna hurt the team.

Na is on form, 3rd in the fedex, he can totally demoralise any opponent around any course.

Reed is Captain Havoc, would have been bound to cause a rules controversy and really wind the Euros up.

Missed opportunity.

T25 Travelers

T32 Rocket Mortgage

T34 3M Open

T31 St jude-small field

Looks ok initially but really nothing better than pedestrian when you look more closely.

Couple poor results with his off course issues and medical issues, I doubt he was really ever seriously considered.

Let’s accept the picks and move along to what the team would be working on this week.

Id say Bryson is wearing out his wedge. 125th on tour for 50 to 125 yds in. His driver will be fine as America sets up the course.
Brooks will be rehabing the injury.
I think the Euros will look at this team and do some serious book work. Remember they don’t know all these players inside and out.

Reed was hospitalized for over two weeks with bilateral pneumonia. His health would be a major concern, lots of healthy individuals ive seen/treated have difficulty walking distances and get tired quickly after being in the ICU. I wouldnt pick him this shortly after getting out and not seeing him play. Just like I wouldnt pick Tiger for medical reasons no matter how much he wanted to be on the team without seeing him play.

I believe it was more than just health and performance.  I think Sticker just didn't want him around.  If he was such an asset he would be and assistant.

My guess would be Webb Simpson.  You could plug him in with just about anybody and his style of play would mesh.

If Patrick Reed was going to make the team, he would have been on it right away.

God no. There's already Berger on the team. Don't need another horrible swing to pollute the broadcast.

I have 0 problems with Stricks picks. I predict Berger will surprise many of the people who think he was a bad pick.

Possibly Jeff "Boom Baby" Overton in 2008.

Actually it was Fowler in 2010, Overton earned his way onto the team. He and Fowler were the first players to ever make the team without having a victory, and Fowler was a captains pick. Overton still had 2 points that weekend.

I still think 2010 plays out differently if not for the weather and forcing all players to play on days 2 and 3. Exposed their rookies and lack of depth.

Love it!  That's the kind of golf most of us understand (although the 0's after the number might be slightly different).

The whole rah rah crap and supposed attitude is just fluff. In the end the golfers who play the best golf will determine the match. Way too much is being thought about what it takes by a bunch of forum defense. They are just playing golf and yes pretty much every player Strick picked is a good choice.
