AVX vs 2021 ProV1x

I’ve been playing AVX balls for almost a year now and recently bought  box of the 2021 ProV1x’s.  I’m a 9 handicap so decent but still inconsistent at times.   I like the height I get from the ProV1x and prefer it around the green.  I hit the AVX a little further which is to be expected but it isn’t a huge difference.  I track all my rounds with the 19birdies app and have played 4 rounds with the ProV1x’s vs 60ish plus with the AVX.  So far I hit considerably fewer fairways with the ProV1x.  The AVX just seems to be consistently straighter off the driver.  Is there something in the characteristics of the ProV1x that makes it a little looser off the tee or will the law of averages eventually even it out with the AVX?   Its really the only thing making me hesitate from permanently switching the ProV.

I would think the X flies higher (more susceptible to wind) and probably spins a bit more off the driver than the AVX.  Both could factor in.  I've found that the newest ProV1, not the X, flies a lot like the AVX off the tee.

If you like the height of the X try the left dash, lower spin in long clubs but still high ball flight with plenty of green side spin

@TexasRig Golf balls are one of the least understood pieces of equipment in golf. Without going too much into detail...the peak of the ballflight and how it falls is critical. Prov1x, Prov1, AVX (from left to right), farthest left being the height peak and farthest right being lowest peak. In other words... Prov1x peaks higher than AVX off the driver. However...a better comparison would be the Left Dash Prov1x because of the firmness of the golfballs are more similar.

 

Now in terms of inconsistency you are seeing with the Prov1x it would be important to know if you are using the most recent Prov1x 2021 or last years model.

I appreciate the feedback.  I'll try to track down some of the left dash balls and see how they work.

The spin rates on the V1X are higher...foe me the V1x was unplayable this year.....try the V1....its a really good ball with lower spin and better manners on the course

 

off driver impact the V1x spins ~ 300 rpms more than the AVX which could result in why the ball is flying off the fairway for you. 

 

with the 8i, the v1x spins almost 800 rpms more than the AVX into the green which can be good but off the driver, i can see whay you may be having issues

 

The V1 fits right in between these two balls....

Yes, but I wouldn't say it's loose.  The NEW ProV1x spins considerably more than its previous version, which I enjoyed playing.  I don't play the new version because the new ProV1X added spin exacerbates how I impact the ball.   If I have the slightest amount of added spin at impact, the ball takes the spin in that direction.

 

When I discovered DASH -ProV1x I was happy, been using it ever since.  Whether I play AVX or DASH depends on conditions, and my joints, as it demands a good smack.  A good smack = a nice straight controlled ball.  But at first, AVX was longer than DASH, now DASH is as long, and at times longer.  AVX is a much softer and easier, more forgiving ball.

ProV1x spins quite a bit more than the AVX.  I have gamed both balls in the past.  Spin can either hurt or help you in terms of dispersion.  I would go with the AVX in your case since you seem to be more accurate with it.  It's a lot easier to shoot lower scores from the fairway or right off it rather than be in the woods all day or OB even if it means sacrificing some spin around the greens.

The 2021 Pro V1 is closest to the AVX in terms of feel and has a similar lower ball flight.  Pro V1 spins more than AVX with irons and around the greens.  If you could find some, the Left Dot Pro V1 slots in between the AVX and the regular Pro V1 in terms of spin (more than AVX less than Pro V1) and feels slightly firmer than Pro V1.

the V1x is a spin monster off the driver for certain players. This is the one ball i hated this year and i tested 8 different balls.   It just ballooned for me....the prv1 was much better.

 

i just played the left dot for 18 holes and its amazing.....

I played 27 holes with the left dash ProV1X.   In general its shorter than the AVX especially with the irons but it flies so straight.  I shot 6 over for 18 on Sunday with a triple on one par four.  In other words played one of the best rounds of my life with the left dash but I'm still on the fence.  I'm going to try it again this weekend and see if I can duplicate those results.

Try to get some left dot balls......if you like the left dash, you may love the left dot.....flies just as far, with better trajectory (for me anyway) and is more manageble around the greens....its basically a better version of the left dash.....imo

I do think its the spin around the green that's keeping me from really liking the left dash.  There just isn't much of it.   The crazy pricing on the left dots are tough to swallow.  I'm going to try to the left dash again this weekend and then maybe give the 2021Prov1 a shot.   Good times.
