Jack’s Majors Ranking

Holy Moses

Recommended Posts

I think its an interesting look at golf then vs golf now. Almost a story of America if you will.

Jack probably favored the US Open because in the 60s/70s people were probably all together a little more patriotic, less hyper concerned about wealth and prestige.

Fast forward to 2021, the Masters is prob what golfers consider the best major because it has more pomp/money/prestige and is more exclusive.

I agree with Jack (not a normal occurrence...lol).  In fact, if you look at it objectively, you might even question why the Masters should still be considered to be a major.  As far as I know, it's the only privately-run tournament in any of the major tours.  They set their own rules in terms of who gets invited.  They even tell CBS which words can be used and which ones cannot be used (eg., "patrons" not "fans").  It is Bobby Jones's tournament.

This will be controversial, but I think it's time to drop the Masters and make The Players Championship the fourth major.  Either that or, since Jack was a better golfer than Jones, make The Memorial the fourth major.

What say the masses?

Dropping the Masters as a major is such a bad idea that it doesn't even merit being called controversial 🙂

Best as I can recall, Jack has ranked the majors in this order for a long time. No news here.

I don’t tend to understand him ever so don’t feel bad.

Only four players in history have won 4 US Opens.  Tiger is not one of them.  It is the hardest tournament to win.

Thank you.

Don’t tell Brooks. US Opens are easy 😉.

Hogan was the last man to win 4 opens with the 36 hole final day format-Hogan also had to play a qualifier 2 rounds as only the previous year's champion was exempt

Even Jack was soft compared to the guys prior to 1960

First Masters Champions dinner for the reigning champion is definitely not free.  The reigning champion hosts and picks up the tab for the dinner.  😱  😁

Take a close look at the qualification criteria of the other 3 majors. They ALL set their own rules for who qualifies or gets invited to play in them. As for what say the masses. I hear ESPN needs another nonsensical hot take artist. Seems you might have a shot at getting hired.

You started so well, then you just couldn't resist going down Troll Lane.  Oh well...

It doesn't matter what the masses say. The average person is average and the consensus of average people is just average. People should consider what the above average people say, since above average people change the world. Think about it for a minute.

Good point.  Well, my IQ is 132, I have a Masters from Johns Hopkins and am an executive with a Fortune 200 company.

Does that put me in the "above average" category?  If so, then based on your logic, you should seriously consider everything say.

So consider this - Wouldn't replacing the Masters as a major be considered "changing the (golf) world?"  The "average person" certainly wouldn't want to do it, because they're "just average," but the above average person might.

I'm below average myself. I've been thinking about it, but I can't quite figure out what that means. I'll put it on a 3x5 card and carry it around for awhile... 😎

Jack Nicklaus hit it 340 yards with a wood head-steel shaft to win the 1963 PGA Championship long drive competition. The swing technique he used in his 20's, combined with today's equipment, would make him as long or longer than any current Tour player.

And that's on fairways with grass that looked like my scraggly front lawn : )

Rollout? What rollout?

Good point.  I've never understood why people care about what celebrities think about things outside of their particular expertise.  Just because you are great at sports doesn't mean you know squat about anything else.  Same thing goes with actors and musicians.

That said, generally speaking, comedians have been shown to have higher IQs than most others, so I will pay attention to the underlying meaning behind their jokes.
