Ping poor after sales service

Randagios

Recommended Posts

Just find out that Ping is not offering at all a swing weight adjustment for their woods and hybrids as an after sales service, because they "do not deal with that kind of stuff" - I did not ask it for free but happy to pay any cost they would charge.

Ping used to take care of their clients and to put in their hands the best fitted clubs, but now their policy is not to offer an after sales specs adjustment service and they "won't change it". So once a club has been sold, if it does not fit the client, he/she will have to keep it or buy another one. Or buying a competitor club, whose producer offers a proper after sales service (based on my experience Callaway does and for free).

Ping seems to be having trouble lately, but honestly, couldn't you just buy the aftermarket weight you need or add lead tape if the SW is an issue?  A lot of places offer the aftermarket weights.  I get that it should be easier but a lot of times clubs come out of the factory at the wrong SW anyway.  It's not something I would ever count on being right, if it is, then bonus but I have often purchased weights to suit my needs after the fact.  Not just for Ping woods either.

A swing weight adjustment is pretty easy to accomplish on your own. It should just require you to change the weight on the bottom of the club and would almost certainly be cheaper to do on your own rather than paying for shipping to and from Ping. Is there a local shop that can do it for you? What specifically are you trying to change?

Ping refused to sell the weights. I managed it with lead tape, as you suggest, but it is six grams to add and it is lots of tape. Anyhow, it you need to have a lighter swing weight, the problem will still remain.

Do you know where I could buy the weight? Thanks.

My first look would be Golfworks.com.  Second would be ebay.  Third would be lead tape, I just added 6g to my Sim Max, I didn't think it was all that much but we all have a different gauge.

Ping provides repair and, or, adjustment service to the company's golf clubs. Here is a a link to a Ping order form which is to be submitted with the club(s) sent to Ping.

Ping has weights for their driver from 14 g. to 35 g. and for FW/HY from 4 g. to 22 g. (both with a three grams step). If I  need to add six grams and have a 17 g. weight installed, they will only have to install the 22 g. one. Not very complicated and it should be pretty precise.

I just had the opposite experience with Ping. I purchased a G425 hybrid from the BST here. When I received the hybrid, the head felt a little heavy to me so I called Ping for the specs. I spoke with the rep and I told him that the head felt heavy to me.  He offered and sent me 2 lighter weights for the hybrid with no charge.

OP you're complaining about Ping not selling single weights? If so, that is true as they don't sell direct without a Ping account.

Now, there's millions of weights on eBay....and if the swing weight was wrong......either it was ordered wrong or Ping messed up on the build order .?

So you are saying that Ping refused to allow you to send the club back and have it adjusted at the factory? If true, that is definitely a shift in company philosophy for them.

They refused to send them to their retailer, who showed me their message.

They have never sent “parts” out. However you we’re always able to send clubs back to be repaired and adjusted.

At the request to send the clubs back to have the swing weight adjusted the answer was "we don't deal with that kind of stuff, we have our policy and we won't change it".

That is the answer from the area sales rep.

Call Alexis at Ping customer service, she will take care of you. And don’t ever deal with your local sales rep. In fact, inform Ping customer service about your experience with your rep….

If you are set on needing to send it to Ping, then call them yourself Monday morning. Again, it’s going to cost you more to send it to them then just purchasing a 22 g weight.

The issue is the lack of care for a client and not offering anymore a proper after sales service. Or worse an employee with no knowledge of their custom service policy.

Hot melt service is your friend and relatively cheap.  Most of the time it's cheaper than ordering aftermarket adjustable weights.  Just make sure you ask whomever adds it to make sure it's neutral bias unless you want it fade or draw biased.

Hot melt definitely works great and avoids the lead tape aesthetics, but I usually buy the aftermarket weights first, with hot melt more difficult

to undo.  Maybe there is some chemical solvent that can break down hot melt to allow it to be removed

Hot melt is permanent unless you're ok with risking ruining the head.  This is why it's always best to mess around with lead tape beforehand to see what configuration works since it can always be removed, but you probably know this already.

I would actually contact Ping vs. just the area Rep.  I would also cut them some slack currently as every OEM is already swamped with not being able to fulfill current orders the way they would want and having a club come back wouldn't be a priority at all (,ore so for something so simple a fix, same with getting OEM weights ala golfworks), regardless of how you currently feel or think that it should be.

I, like most, have nothing but good things to say about Ping CS.  I actually had someone call me on a Sunday afternoon 5 minutes after I had placed an online order for some limited headcovers just to make sure that everything was right and I was able to get what I wanted.

Absolutely Ping's service(s) for existing consumer customers is excellent. The company will accept shipments of Ping club (s) for loft, lie, length, swing weight etc... adjustments. Also, PIng will refinish many of the company's long discontinued iron and putter models. No other company offers near Ping's  level of customer service for current or older models.
