Ryder Cup 2020/21 (***NO COVID/POLITICS***)

Whilst we are a couple weeks away from the action, with the teams now being set, I figured now would be a good time to create a thread for this year’s (or should it be last year’s) Ryder Cup. The event heads to Whistling Straits, Wisconsin where home state favourite Steve Sticker captains the US side aiming to take back the Cup lost to Europe in Paris 2018. On paper the US is, as usual, the stronger of the two teams but as we know, Europe loves the underdog tag and Padraig Harrington fields a team with the current World Number 1 and with a number of experienced old heads who are aiming to win the Cup for the 10th time out of the last 13.

Teams (Alphabetical Order):-
USA
Daniel Berger
Patrick Cantlay
Bryson DeChambeau
Harris English
Tony Finau
Dustin Johnson
Brooks Koepka
Collin Morikawa
Xander Schauffele
Scottie Scheffler
Jordan Spieth
Justin Thomas

Europe
Paul Casey
Matt Fitzpatrick
Tommy Fleetwood
Sergio Garcia
Tyrell Hatton
Viktor Hovland
Shane Lowry
Rory McIlroy
Ian Poulter
Jon Rahm
Lee Westwood
Bernd Wiesberger

Format:-
Friday & Saturday
AM - 4 Foursomes
PM - 4 Fourballs

Sunday
12 Singles

Course:-
Whistling Straits
Par 71
7,390 Yards

Surprised with poulter, personally would have gone for rose...hope the postman delivers again

Poults has only been on one losing side in 6 appearances in the Ryder Cup. It's a no-brainer pick.

True, but it's the form. Just surprised, really didn't think he'd get picked

Padraig wanted a mix of experience, team spirit & positive energy to add to the team and these picks all provide that.

The form aspect for the European side isn't really a big factor when all they want during the week is incredible willingness to come together & fight for the same thing.

Shame for Rose. If Lowry hadn't been knocked out of the automatic places by Weisberger today then I'm sure he would have got the nod. A very strong European team though.

I thought Rose would’ve gotten picked as well, but he hasn’t exactly been consistent the last little while but I think he got a top 5 there when Day won.

Good moves by Paddy - don't agree that Rose was a given and good for bringing a rookie on board, who is also accomplished and playing well.\\\

If people think Poulter hasn't been playing well they haven't been watching.  He's played okay this year. Pretty sure he can still putt -- Rosie not so much, he's looked confused a lot this year and never know about the status of his back.

I thought our team would win, now I have their entire team staring me in the face and . . . . . I think they'll retain.

Hopefully the many, many dips___s who attended the Ryder Cup at Hazeltine and acted like fools will stay home - cheer hard, stay classy this time! Maybe the PGA will also get more serious about fan issues, this is a good opportunity.

Poulter v Bryson Sunday singles. Make it happen.

Yes! Also we need Rahm v Cantlay. It'll be interesting to see how we set up Whistling Straits for the Ryder Cup. Le Golf National was a tight golf course while Hazeltine was wide open and a birdie-fest.  Honestly the we should just host every home Ryder Cup at Hazeltine!

It has the potential to be an exciting week. USA are stronger on paper as individuals. Whereas the European team maybe has a few more match play specialist and natural pairings.

The foursomes will be key for Europe, if the US team get parity or better in the mornings, it will be tough for us.

Solid choices by Paddy.  No surprises.  Lowry over rose is a solid choice.

Hoping that Westwood is used sparingly and not put anywhere where there is a need to make a critical putt under pressure.  I had hoped that 2016 was the last time we saw Lee as a player 🙂

The Euro team does look better now its finalized but I just feel USA is too deep and a lot of the euros (Hatton, Fleetwood, Casey and even Rory) are not on top form. Hopefully the Euros get inspired but I think US will lead going into singles and no way Euros win that session.

Kinda when Clarke picked Westy, Paddy chosed an Irishmen. Most probably will end up like in 2016…

I’m looking at it the other way, Clarke picked Kaymer because he has Ryder Cup experience, that worked out horrendously. Harrington picking Lowry over Rose moves away from that type of thing. All of that said, I still think that this year is going to end up like 2016 😂

Pretty sure that I speak for the majority in saying honestly, can we not have to worry about Covid chat? Sure that if you want to have a chat about that, there are plenty of other places that you can go to 😴
